Hi, I’ve been struggling with this game-breaking issue for a few days now. My game completely freezes and then crashes whenever I try to zoom in or zoom out. It happens almost every time I change the zoom level, especially when doing it quickly. I'm playing on Build 42 (Unstable) at 4K resolution, trying to take advantage of my 240Hz refresh rate, but these freezes make the game unplayable.

My Specs:
GPU: RTX 5090
CPU: Ryzen 7 9800X3D
RAM: 32GB
Monitor: 32" 4K 240Hz (Alienware OLED)
Audio: iFi CAN 3 DAC / NVIDIA Broadcast

I’ve tried tweaking various settings in the options, but nothing seems to stop the lock-ups during zoom transitions.

I would suggest removing any memory tweaks you tried doing, since the logs show you tried several that I would not suggest using

Other than that, try going to your Steam Library > Right click Project Zomboid > Properties > Set Launch Options > Type -novoip > Start the game
If that does not help, can you try typing -nosound instead? This is to check if it is a sound related issue.

I deleted my options.ini for a clean start and cleared all previous Launch Options, using only -novoip. Unfortunately, it still freezes when zooming in/out at 4K. However, I then tested with -nosound and the issue is completely gone. The game is perfectly stable and I can zoom in and out as much as I want without any lag or freezes.

what can we do to fix the actual audio conflict?

Most games do not support that, and PZ can fail to load if it's way too high

The 48kHz setting actually helped a bit, it didn’t instacrash like before, which proves the audio engine was struggling with the resampling. But the final 'death blow' was definitely the java.lang.OutOfMemoryError I found in the log. Once I bumped the heap to 16GB, everything became rock solid. It seems 4K zooming just needs that extra memory overhead to breathe.
