My game has recently been crashing every time I try and join my friends vanilla server in b42, I tried switching down from b42 to b41 the other day and zomboid got stuck in an update loop thing (my computers very bad) so I ended up trying to delete all my files for the game and reinstalling. It eventually worked after a couple hours of reinstalling the game. It worked fine up until It started crashing mid-game. Now it's crashing every time i try to join the server! I need help, I've tried getting them to host a diff server and everything

i got the console.log tho
do you know whats wrong?
LOG : General f:3053, t:1774067593495, st:84,337,560> java.io.FileNotFoundException: D:\SteamLibrary\steamapps\common\ProjectZomboid\media\ui\Sidebar\80\Carpentry_Off_80.png_Icon (The system cannot find the file specified)
verify game files
i did that though
I don't know if steam just doesn't do it correctly or smth bc my pc is not very good or whatever but
i've uninstalled the game and reinstalled it around 3 times
i've verified files at least twice
(i havent done more because the game itself takes a while to verify the files for)
is there another way?
the game is installed on an external hard-drive
i'm using an asus vivobook pro
its about four years old now
i am verifying now, I'll keep you updated
Can you try doing a full reinstall?
First, uninstall the game, then go to "Steam\steamapps\common\ProjectZomboid" and make sure there are no leftover files or folders there.
After that, go to “%UserProfile%\Zomboid” and delete everything there except the “Saves” folder.
Then just install the game again and see if that helps.
sure thing! I will most likely not be able to verify if it works today, as the friend I play with is out for today (maybe like really late like 12-4 AM) But, I will try to see if i can get someone else to host a b42 server and see if this helps. Thanks again!
Make sure to follow each step as well, a lot of people skip step two deleting the files manually and then still get the issue
Its important to manually delete the files, Steam does not delete leftovers, and verification also doesnt help with extra files
yeah, the only thing left in the folder were error logs, so I just deleted them. I am going to go and delete stuff from the zomboid user profile rn
so like this?
That seems like a Steam error rather than a problem with the game
I would suggest you reinstall your Steam client as well in this case?
alright... how?
okay i cant find steam in the apps, so im downloading the lateat version in the hopes that it will help fix it
ill keep you updated!
Okay, I uninstalled and reinstalled steam, I connected my external hard drive and all of my games showed up as installed. Will this be a problem? Should I have deleted all of my game data off the harddrives aswell or do you think it will be okay?
@spiral rover
shouldn't be
Nope it should be fine, you generally wouldnt want to delete your games, just Steam itself
i see
it just like closed suddenly as i was joining server and uh
it just reopened the app
its loading now
lemme get the full error logs that was just from the console
there
you have anything @blissful sundial ?
second one says no errors lol
interesting
that probably wasnt the rror logs lol
sorry i just pulled up the console
gimme a moment
here
and
tried one more time
this is actually a good console log
i dont know what to do at this point
i cant factory reset my pc either
i genuinely am at a loss
is there any way I could get this fixed at all?
i'd like almost anything gn
These logs show your system ran out of RAM
Are you perhaps at max memory usage when running the game? Check your task manager.
If you are close to the max, turn off all background programs except Steam and the game, then check if you are able to play
okay!
i can test today! im going to be turning everything else off and just see if it works or not
