there are sandbox settings that govern the animal needs, can't remember off the top of my head what they are called exactly, but they should be easy to find

then yeah im not sure...
maybe it can use some adjusting
you can try different amounts of animals with less or more grassland to eat...
or increase the day length...
haven't really farmed much recently tbh lol

if it still seems too harsh consider posting a suggestion on the forums if nobody has already

That does not sound normal, no unless they changed that in the last version. My experience is that I throw a bunch of bags in there, often WAY less than 15 and then basically that last longer than the time it take the PZ dev to brick my game with an update. Which is many month in game.
