#Game crashing 4 or more seconds into launching.

So I'm having this very weird crash that happens randomly, and the game barely gets the chance to load, most times the game will load fine but others it won't, another weird thing is it never happens when in a world and such, I can post info from dmp files and hs_err_pid files (I tested with a thing and these hs_err_pid files generated because using the thing caused the game to crash showing a reason and such, otherwise they never generated) and such, please let me know what is needed and I will try to provide stuff, keep in mind mods aren't the issue in this case as the game doesn't even get a chance to load them when the crash happens.

The err pid files would be useful yes

I should note that I could only generate these hs_err_pid files with a GFlag thing active

Meaning the GPU is basically crashing, though not much extra info here, just that it fails to render the display?

#

I might suggest reinstalling your graphics card drivers, make sure that you select the "Factory Reset" option during the reinstall

From the dmp files I see Heap Corruption being mentioned

#

And these drivers that I have installed are mostly fresh as I recently switched my gpu to a newer one not long ago, I did use DDU and a fresh install and such, I only started to play PZ on my new graphics card, I never ran it on my old one

#

I got the graphics card like uhhh a month or 2 ago? I think I got it in Feb

#

But what confuses me the most is that most times I can run the game fine, without a crash, other times it will crash, this all happens before loading into a save and whatnot, or it could happen before any mods and stuff load

I can mainly just tell what the log points to, not what the cause itself is

#

For the cause, more testing is necessary

# limber otter What kind of testing?

Cross compare it with any other HS err pid files, you can also test what exact situation it happens it, is it literally random, or does it always just crash on the main menu?

#

Did you also change any of the AMD control panel settings after getting the new GPU or is it all default?

#

Sometimes even the defauls are wrong, AMD has a performance mode preset which frankly enables weird options

I'm trying to do more tests

I'm not really getting anywhere with it, the thing is, when I try to launch the game using the alternate launch with a gflag active for java, the game crashes instantly, but if I use the default launch then the game does not crash even while the gflag is active, but I'm unsure if it still crashes randomly

Hm, yeah that is pretty difficult to figure out then.. you mentioned it never crashes during gameplay, only the main menu?

limber otter
#

I would say like 60% of the time?

#

The crash happens at zombie.GameWindow.InitDisplay() when it calls glGetIntegerv I believe

Could you test if the issue happens in Windowed, Fullscreen and Borderless modes?

#

And do you perhaps have multiple monitors?

limber otter
#

It happens in fullscreen and it happens in borderless windowed, I haven't tried just windowed and yes I have a second monitor

cedar pivot
#

Could you also test without it as well? To see if there is a connection with that

#

Since the error is display / gpu related

limber otter
#

I could try

limber otter
#

Nothing can really be done it seems, It's an AMD issue

cedar pivot
#

That is unfortunate, though it is good it does not cause issues during gameplay?

It's an issue with AMD but I am sure something can be done within the game. Many people have the same issue. I can load 42.13.2 without crashes but 42.14 and 42.15 crashes like crazy. Something must have changed that broke something. That hrr is huge because none of us gets them
