#Installation for 42.14.1 check

Hello, I've deleted all the game files and reinstalled the server using steamcmd and the following command:
app_update 380870 -beta unstable validate

But now, our clients can't see the server. The clients are updated to 41.13.1. I don't know how to check the server version from steamcmd.
Ports are open and we were able to normally play in 41.13.0.

Thanks in advance!

By "deleting all game files" do you mean you wiped all of the server files before installing it through SteamCMD?

#

The server is also on 42.14.1 and not 41.13.1

#

So you are on the wrong version as well

compact forge
#

My bad, 14

#

it's a typo

#

And no, I haven't deleted the saves, but I've completely wiped the server folder, like I did when I've installed the previous version

#

(I sadly can't edit the title, but I meant 42.14.1)

Is it possible to join the server manually through the IP?

compact forge

Double checking asap

#

Will get back to you later

#

Ok, sorry, I misread: we always connect through the IP (not through the list)

#

And right now, that's not possible (as in, from since the clients got updated)

#

To be precise, it's seen as offline in the multiplayer menu (the one in which you manually insert the server ip and password and save it, to just click "connect" once the server is saved)

#

I also ran the command again and it correctly verified the files, reloading the server changes nothing

#

And I can confirm can I can ping the server via standard cmd without issues

#

I see, is the server hosted on your own system in that case? Can you connect to it with the local IP?

#

To check for network issues

compact forge
#

No, but I can ask the host to connect to the server pc via lan to give you this info

Sorry about pestering you with all these weird issues but, for starters, did I do the right thing?
As in, delete the server folder, enter steam cmd and use the mentioned command? Or is there something wrong in the command?

#

Another intereting thing that makes me think about the fact that there is a version mismatch or something is that, while we could connect normally to the server before the hotfix release, as soon as it was released we couldn't connect to it anymore (obviously, being in a different version) and it was listed as "offline" like it appears now.
In both instances the server was up and running

Is there a command to check the server version?

compact forge
#

I got the confirmation that the server is not responding even by lan

And can you check if the server accepts commands? Write the command "save" into the server and press enter

#

Or whoever has management access to it

#

And actually, can you also share the server logs after this connection attempt?

#

So I can check if both the client and server are indeed on the same version

A moment

#
  • server accepts commands as per usual, and it has been up without issues
  • there is no activity at all on the server when I try to connect, because "the server failed to respond"
  • I can see nothing suspicious in the cmd window of the server

Where can I find the logs?

#

(the specific logs, sorry, among the long files)

leaden veldt
#

User/Zomboid folder
Client logs are in the console.txt file
Server logs in the server-console.txt file

The version is definitely correct, so it's not a version problem

#

Oh for the love of... don't tell me it's fucking Win11 firewall

leaden veldt
#

Can be, it can block local connections as well actually

#

Specifically if the "Network" setting is set to Public instead of Private

#

This thing, need to have it set to Private on both PCs when testing local connections

#

Assuming the connection is tested from a separate PC

compact forge
#

Yeah I have to double check. I always forget that Win11 (I HATE YOU) has the nasty habit of resetting some connection options that were previously set by the user -_- doing it now

#

At least this time the connection remained private. I'll comb the firewall

#

Can't find anything in paticular at the moment. But it's clear that, at this point, it's a connection issue that has nothing to do with the server files

#

Because the server version is correct, and the server runs normally and accepts commands

#

(especially because it doesn't work via lan, either)

#

Thanks a lot, I'll continue on my own from here, you have been, as always, extremely kind and useful! Thanks again 😄

Hello again, we found the culprit. As suspected, it's the damned windows 11 firewall! We couldn't pinpoint the exact issue tho. Bringing it down makes connection to the server works but, of course, it cannot be a permanent solution. Do you happen to know all the processes that should be allowed for Pz? Obviously, this doesn't make sense, for it was working last week and nothing has been touched on thef firewall (I suspect some fuckery in Windows updates...)

leaden veldt
#

Hmm, only specific weird quirk about the firewall that I know is that the Zulu Java has to be enabled in the "Allow Apps" section

#

This has to be enabled and allowed

#

Since Zulu is the Java build that the game uses, if that is blocked then its the same as if blocking the server itself, even if the ports to reach the server are open
