#The game crashes

I'm having a pretty annoying problem. I launch PZ, but shortly after I get to the main screen, the game crashes on its own.
Could it be a mod that's causing the problem?
I'm using the latest version of the unstable 42. If I unsubscribe from all mods, the game works for a while, but then the problem returns after reinstalling some mods.
Do you know what could be causing this?

I think it’s the game, although of course if you have any mod installed your report usually won’t be taken into account. In my case I have one translation mod, and sometimes the game crashes several times during the startup and loading process. If I get past those two stages, it usually doesn’t crash in‑game. I have noticed crashes happening much more frequently than what I had, for example, in build 41 without using mods. But even at the beginning of build 42, without mods, it was still crashing for me.

Right now I have one Spanish translation mod, but I’ve been experiencing crashes since build 41 (occasionally), and since the early builds of build 42 it’s been happening more often. Currently, from build 42.13 onward, I’m using translation mods and I’ve noticed the crashes becoming more frequent. They usually happen during the game’s loading process or when loading into a world/server. It could be some kind of Java‑related issue, but I’m not sure.

This has happened to me both with and without mods. I only play with mods on the server I made with some friends to understand the text, but other than that, I've even played without mods and it still crashes, both at the game's startup, main menu, and loading screen for a world/server. So, even though it's happening now because I have one mod, it has happened to me before without mods, but since these latest updates, the frequency is much higher.
Most likely, there's some kind of conflict between Java and the game causing the crash.

Can you send your console.txt file

stable parrot
#

I opened it once with a mod and it crashed. Then I disabled the mod, opened it again, and it crashed. This “consola.txt” is from when I did it without mods.
(This usually happens with or without mods, about 2–3 times in a row. Once it finally gets fully ingame, it usually runs relatively well without crashes, but in the game loading menus or world/server loading screens it tends to crash.)

Nope, it crashed on me (the game closed during world loading).

That's the only record, but it doesn't remain in the game's log.

Can you share all “hs_err_pid” files found in your main game folder “Steam\steamapps\common\ProjectZomboid”?

stable parrot
#

I don't see any files with that name, and the crashes usually don't show up in the logs, although they do appear in the Event Viewer. These crash issues only happen to me with PZ.

#

The mods are disabled, and it happens during the game's loading process and when loading into a world or server. If I get past both, the game usually stays stable and doesn't crash anymore, but before I can actually play, I typically get 1 to 3 crashes.

You can try verifying your game files and see if that helps? I might also suggest disabling any background programs, in case them trying to hook into the game is causing problems

Like Razer, as far as I am awre, it checks for apps and tries to see if its compatible

stable parrot
#

I found it — I hadn’t looked closely at the path you gave me. That shows up in the game's Steam folder.

#

I don't know what program might interfere with the game; I usually have this open:

#

I use Razer because of the audio, Discord has the overlay disabled, and well, Steam — the game is from Steam, although sometimes I play it in offline mode because of friends.

#

And well, I also have the AMD software since it's part of the graphics card.

#

The hs_err files aren’t from today, for example. Today I don’t even have the mods enabled and it still crashes. For me, that’s already something normal with the game itself — once I open it and it finishes loading, it usually runs pretty well, although I can rarely get an occasional in‑game crash. But during the game loading and world loading is where the crash risk is high. The dates I had were these:

Try disabling the razer one and the copilot one and then retest

#

Also I am not exactly sure what the application with the plug icon is

stable parrot
#

It's a "sai"

azure delta

That one should be fine

#

Even with Razer and Copilot closed, it still crashes.

same issue after updating to pz 42.14.1

note: no mods enabled

Can you reinstall its drivers to the latest version, selecting the "Factory Reset" option when doing that?

I have an RX6600 with 8GB of VRAM. This has been happening to me even in previous versions since I bought the game (around a year ago). I’ll reinstall the latest version, but I don’t think it will fix it.

What is the system paging file installed on?

Do you have any other applications running in parallel that use Java?

#

I had a similar error due to another application that was using virtual memory and preventing the game from working properly until I restarted the PC.

it a very big...

#

restart your PC and check again this page file size

stable parrot

I restarted the PC to reinstall the AMD drivers, and the paging still shows the same value. As for running another application simultaneously with Java, I only use the software for my UPS.
I also had these problems in build 41, but they were less frequent. In these latest updates they happen more often, and usually before I can actually start playing it tends to crash 1 to 3 times. I’ve even formatted the PC a few times and still had the same issues.

Open CTRL+SHIFT+ESC and see what's loading your processor, video card, and RAM.

#

It's not normal that your virtual memory is heavily loaded. You could even try disabling the "Automatically manage paging file size" option.

azure delta

It is true that its bigger than usual, but the allocated paging size might not mean all of it is used
