Anyone else getting a lot of lag spikes?

My players are complaining about lots of lag.

muted robin
#

@muted sequoia what mods do you have enabled if any?

muted sequoia
#

NONE
Fresh install since upgrading broke our save.

muted robin
humble flume
#

How many players are on the server? Have not had lag spikes with roughly 20

muted sequoia
#

8 at the moment

#

haven't been over 20 pop since 42.13.0

humble flume
#

Hm, anyone have any animals? There have been some weird problems with animals in zones that cause large lag in certain situations

#

But that is the only report I have to go on, there werent any othrs in regards to lag

muted sequoia
#

Fresh server... like maybe...

#

we had to wipe since the update didn't like our save.

No mods!

#

I do have blood set to Ultra Gore.... being they're saying it's when zombies go pop.... I'll lower it to normal and see if it improves

muted sequoia
#

hmm... one thing I just realized I didn't wipe... was the server.db

#

looking through the SQL, shouldn't be anything in that as it's mostly roles and tickets (Which I hope get fixed soon)

muted sequoia
#

@humble flume do you get this in your logs?

Server is too busy. Server will drop updates of vehicle's physics. Server is closed for new connections.

#

I get this error a lot.

muted sequoia
#

OMG I may have found the issue...

The default cpu priority is BELOW NORMAL now

muted robin
muted sequoia
#

I just bumped it up to Above Normal... made no difference.

#

still massive desync

#

Generally stay off Realtime.

muted robin
muted sequoia
#

my players are seeing desync with zombies, if I'm near them there is huge delays between them and the zomboids..
I watched a hoard beat a car but they were nowhere near it, then 30s later they were around it...

player bashing zombies like 20 feet away with a bat..

World loading super slow as they drive around.

I'd blame it on my hosts filters, but they were off at the time it was happening...

Server has MORE than enough performance to handle it.... it's a Ryzen 9 7950x3D with 20gb ram assigned to the PZ instance.

Ran SMOOTHish.... on 42.13.2 nothing like this mess.

#

Plenty of power!

#

AMD bug maybe??

Can you share the server logs + the ProjectZomboid.json file you configured for the RAM? Just to check for any issues there

muted sequoia
#

@setlocal enableextensions
@cd /d "%~dp0"
SET PZ_CLASSPATH=java/;java/projectzomboid.jar
".\jre64\bin\java.exe" -Djava.awt.headless=true -Dzomboid.steam=1 -Dzomboid.znetlog=1 -XX:+UseZGC -XX:-CreateCoredumpOnCrash -XX:-OmitStackTraceInFastThrow -Xms20g -Xmx20g -Djava.library.path=natives/;natives/win64/;. -cp %PZ_CLASSPATH% zombie.network.GameServer -statistic 0 %1 %2 -servername BeautifulPotato
REM PAUSE

#

wait... Does ProjectZomboid64.json
Inside the server folder need configured also?
I thought the batch script is what set the ram limit...

#

.
I edited the json to have 20g now.

I'll upload my server config, but literally everything other than the batch script is what steamCMD pulled.
Server is FRESH other than that server.db file.

#

.
Steamcmd deploy

steamcmd.exe +login anonymous +force_install_dir "C:\steamcmd\steamapps\common\Project Zomboid Dedicated Server" +app_update 380870 -beta unstable validate +quit

humble flume
#

Script looks fine, the SteamCMD also looks good

#

You mentioned you have the X3D?

#

Did you install the latest chipset and bios updates for it?

muted sequoia
#

cpu is a 7950x3D yeah

humble flume
#

Since it as farily new chip, it requires the chipset drivers on Windows to work correctly

#

There were new chipset drivers released like yesterday for it as well

muted sequoia
#

all that should be good.... Everything worked fine in prior builds. been running B42 since MP released

#

oh interesting.... I'll check if server 2022 got that update..

humble flume
#

Hm, can you also screenshot your Show Statistics menu in-game?

muted sequoia
#

i'll get in game soon.

#

I see drivers from December. mine are probably much older

humble flume
#

If you already have them installed then it should probably be fine, afaik it just improves some database files so more games / apps are correctly recognized to use the cache cores

#

That CPU should have no problem with the server regardless

#

So something weird must be going on

muted sequoia
muted sequoia
#

launched a heli to stir up the server...

muted sequoia
#

well... I guess we'll see if this hotfix fixes things...

humble flume
#

Hm, yeah those statistics also look good, nothing weird comes up there, my server for example had a ton of animal instances, in the thousands, which caused some problems, but yours is all very tame

muted sequoia
#

So just played 7 hours. Whatever 42.14.0 broke, 42.14.1 fixed it.

I had 1 lag spike and it was barely 1 second stutter.

#

Still shows the server is busy logs though

muted robin
muted sequoia
#

no mods installed!

muted robin
muted sequoia
#

it's significantly better now!
only got 24 messages of the error in 7 hours, unlike the 24+ an hour on the last patch.

#

only change was installing the hotfix

muted sequoia
#

I think I've found what is causing it!

https://theindiestone.com/forums/index.php?/topic/92001-server-is-too-busy-server-will-drop-updates-of-vehicles-physics-server-is-closed-for-new-connections/

I enabled Backups back in January when the server was randomly hard crashing. Helped with players having to roll back hours of gameplay.

But for some reason whatever was changed in 42.14.0 broke backups.

humble flume
#

What is the backup period you have set it to?

muted sequoia
#

it was 15 mins, now it's 0

#

players have had no issues since changing this.

humble flume
#

15 minutes is quite often though
