#Walk causes FPS drops

Right now i'm playing a game, ok? Everything works well, FPS is about 102.

By the time my character starts moving, sprinting or running, the fps goes all the way down about 10-15.

When they stop walking, FPS go back to 100-200.

Why does this keep happening? I was told it could be fixed by restarting the laptop, and so i did, but nothing.

Any mods enabled perhaps? Does it happen without them?

I have same problems even without mods, lower versions etc. Game can even die in main menu, mostly when i trying to change the settings. Even changing everything on low-spec doesn't help.

FPS drops are unfrequented and it doesn't matter in which place/situation.

In the menu, it feels like the game is choking on the sheer number of variables I'm entering. The problem is, I don't change many options, and sometimes I don't even have time to change anything after entering the settings.

This is very weird for me, because I had already played over 100 hours before problem.

# gleaming pumice If it happens without any mods, can you share your logs.zip file found in %UserP...

I'm not sure if that will be the right logs, cause i was swapping versions yesterday to check if older ver. would perform better, and i was clearing whole PZ folders.

But i can try to force the fresher settings-crash on current (new) version, or try to log in-game problems.

I had two more suspicions:

  1. Incorrectly assigned RAM (it's probably not that)
  2. Discord's influence on the game (same it's not that probably, but i feel that i had to put him there :D)

Can you try doing a full reinstall?
First, uninstall the game, then go to "Steam\steamapps\common\ProjectZomboid" and make sure there are no leftover files or folders there.
After that, go to “%UserProfile%\Zomboid” and delete everything there except the “Saves” folder.
Then just install the game again and see if that helps.

More ram does not mean more performance

#

It just means more headroom in cases of running out of RAM, which decreases performance

i've done that when i tried to repair it in past

yesterday i cleared and installed the new update to check playability

  • folder in night: gameplay was ok, kinda smooth etc. like without problems
  • folder 'fresh' contains actually crash after loading screen (i mean game loaded and turned off. i did not even press continue). In that moment i was streaming on Discord. Without of that, i would probably be able to play it but im not sure

I will back soon to PC, i will do full clear step by step with ur guides, then i will try to give you more official states and logs

@west hazel hope it's not a problem if i pinned there? :p I can move thread to more personal section. I was hoping that something might be helpful here

@woven ivy @west hazel did any of you figure it out how to fix it? I have the same issue when it drops to 20 fps when I'm moving
