i am with this problem since i came to build 42.13, but i dont remember if it was all the time or after the new year, but i think at the start it was not with this problem

Ok, there i thinked it was mods at first, i really thinked it, because sometimes i was getting freezes at the LOADING screen, and then removed some mods, usually they worked for some time, but after some hours of play, it suddenly freezes EVERYTHING, like everything, verified files, clean cache, and nothing works

i have made TONS of tests removing mods etc

but nothing was 100% and then i realised that it could be not the mods

i have made a test right now, and my PZ freezes all PC again playing with >>VANILLA<< no mods, and after i disabled all the mods i closed PZ for it 100% refresh of the mods, and then it still happened <@&756556556488933526> i dont know whats happening because i was really frustrated, i am like almost 1 month with this problem just trying to play

its so odd because when i am playing it dont stutter, dont have low fps

it works pretty good, it somewhat just freezes suddenly with no specific behavior

it never happened before Build 42.13, all the other builds i was playing with tons of mods and no freezes, at build 41 too, never happened something like this freezes..

A system freeze means there is an issue with your PC / Windows, not the game.

Can you check the Windows Reliability monitor for any Hardware / System crashes there? If you do find any, can you share a screenshot of the Technical Details section so I can check the errors that show up there?

at day 14/01/2026 we received the broken windows update

for coincidence the hardware started to give problems at day 14 too

Hello @pliant cradle and @pliant lodge. I have a same problem with @pliant cradle as @pliant lodge know. We tried to almost everything. We can not find the problem. I was looking to the tech support and i saw this post. I have a same windows update on 14/01/2026. (Windows 10 Version 22H2 01 General Update - KB5073724)

If you cannot roll back the update, you can wait for the next Windows update fixing the issue

@pliant cradle You just need to remove last Windows update (Windows 10 Version 22H2 01 General Update - KB5073724) and it'll be fixed.

but it is a permanent update, that u cant roll back, inclusive if u dont have the windows.old anymore

i dont had because it was 10 days later that i notice the problem

Ok. What i did?

  1. Stop automatic updates
  2. Uninstall the update
  3. Restart the pc.

When you look the update screen. This update still there. But actually not. Because you removed it. After that open your game. At least i fix that problem like this. But maybe this won't work on you.

i have the same issue but i don't have that update anymore. on the 18 i launched the game, the bug fried my SSD, now i have new ssd, extra RAM, and the others windows update that supposedly "fixed" the issue but it still there presenting itself.
After i run project zomboid the game stop respondig, brave browser become a white page, all program don't work and stay white, task manager commit seppuku, Germany invade Poland, Italy win the world cup and i can't turn off my pc. also if i don't wait 10-15 second before turn it on again Brave and others programs still refuse to work. i only have this issue with Project Zomboid. other games run smootly

SOLVED!

Zomboid appears extremely sensitive to GPU switching and driver state: when Windows attempts to use the NVIDIA GPU, the game triggers a crash, likely due to driver pipeline or shader cache inconsistencies. i went to graphics, unchecked the faster something something when possible (i have it in Italian sorry) then i switched to the intel .

THE PROBLEM IS HOW THE GAME INTERACT WITH THE WINDOWS UPDATE AND THE GRAPHIC CARD

hum, ill try that @prisma meteor , because @pliant lodge the new windows update just dropped today, and i tried to play pz, and it freezed at loading a new world, yes with mods, but i confirm that this freeze occurs when ingame vanilla too
