I had a power cut and now the map has reset

My power cut suddenly and now the map has reset to its default state my character however is untouched
Normally I wouldn't care but this has somehow spread to my backup as well which was functional and stored elsewhere hours before the cut.
How could this have happened and can I restore it.

Backup failure was caused by user error

It is now functional

Main save is still broken
