hey everyone, i have a quick question about mods on Project Zomboid Build 42 (unstable), especially after the 42.13.2 hotfix

i’m playing on the unstable branch on steam and i’m a bit confused about mod compatibility on the workshop

a lot of mods are just marked as B42 without saying which version
some say they were made for 42.13.0 / 42.13.1 but haven’t been updated for 42.13.2
and in the in-game mods menu it’s not always clear what’s actually safe to use on unstable

i’m mostly worried about weapon mods and clothing mods, since those seem easier to break after updates

so i wanted to ask:
are mods made for 42.13.0 / 42.13.1 usually still ok on 42.13.2?
is there any good way to tell if a B42 mod is still compatible after a hotfix?
do you guys follow any rules when picking mods for unstable?
and are there certain types of mods you just avoid until they get updated?

any advice or experience would help a lot, thanks spiffo

a good word of advice, always check the comments of a mod a couple pages through.
additionally when it comes to b42 right now, any mod that hasnt been updated since December 2025 (when 42.13.1 came out or something) has a good chance to NOT work. So read the comments, and if none, test yourself, because some do in fact still work depending on the type of mod.

when it comes to mods in 42.13.1 vs 42.13.2, my 250~ modlist on server experience goes -> everything seemed okay to just keep working, besides 2-3 that got fixed shortly after.

map mods are an outlier, for whatever god knows reason many map mods are filled with people that say it dont work and to this day you find out its just because they havent actually added the map properly...
the map mods that dont work (taylors ville, tikitown power plant addon) are very clear that they dont work rn if you read comments, most work but have some issues regarding zoning and zombie spawns etc. but they do show up.

For my experience mods doesn't work on 13.2 MP. Don't know why, but my word of advice would to not nuke all game files like I did before downloading newest patch. My friends mods on server work after just updating and verifying game files on steam. So just doing that should be fine.
