Hi! Use Betas -> unstable branch, it’s in the game’s steam properties

is it worth it or just stick to b42.13.1 for mulitplayer?

@fiery heart Idk, we’ve switched to 42.13.2 yesterday and it’s going well except annoying targeting bug when you just can’t hit zombie

Besides that we haven’t noticed any changes yet. Today we’re going to test drying racks

Are you hosting the server from in-game or dedicated?
Do you feel the desync is better or worse in this patch?

Oh, this is a headache.
First of all, I’m using the dedicated server to play locally with my girlfriend, so it’s a common network pattern with router and two clients (MacBook M2 Max and M4 Pro). Ping <10ms, 5G, ≈600Mb/s speed within the network (iperf3)

I tried to host it from in-game menu and using dedicated server script on my Mac, but both methods gave no improvements, it had the same stability - unstable. So I decided that it is not a bottleneck. I chose dedicated server because of real-time logging.

Then I moved the server to my Win11 computer in the same network and connected it to the !Ethernet!. And that was a good idea, we got much better sync, playable, but not good enough.

The game is using really A LOT of small network packages (I’m still investigating this, but looks like UDP flood) and in this scenario the bottleneck is the router. It’s a worst nightmare for radio frequency transmission and seems there is nothing we can do with it because the game works this way, no mod exists to fix it.

Between 13.1 and 13.2, as I said, we didn’t notice any changes. Desync still persists and noticeable

how bad is the melee targeting bug i saw a lot of people report it updating from 13.1 to 13.2"
some mods have depreciated their 13.1 MP bug fixes because they exist on 13.2 now but if melee is broken to anything more than rare ocurrence i dont think upgrading would be fun for my group and can foresee many deaths to bug hit. when it comes to 1+1 player on server atm so far its been a very good sync experience in 13.1

so when it happens the zombie is just unhittable with melee, forever until either server restart or you use another means to kill it? doesnt sound nice for in the middle of a horde, swinging, miss (no reg) and boom bit..

Yeah i use a dedicated server hosted off of my computer (and play from the same computer). my router is TUF-AX6000. We haven't been able to test with more than 2 people active on a server at the moment but I tested with 3 individual people one at a time as i set up their games for our pending modded run, and we were very happy with how much better the overall synchronization and stuff was. Driving cars possible, fighting zombies together possible, very rare instances of invisible zombies only one player can see, etc and loading in general better experience for the others than 41 (loading into the game that is)

#

we had 3 total on last night but the 3rd has the most random bad internet i've seen anyone ever and either has zero problems or has every problem under the sun (the latter was what happened at that time) so not really anything conclusive there

Try a fresh save (even with mods first if u lazy to disable them right now) multiple ppl I saw say it's not bugged on fresh save which is promising

Got you. Will try with a new save. Is there any way to save the characters from my server and just wipe-reset everything else?

if dedicated server its really easy to make separate no mod world and such. also you can backup existing and restore in host mode too

I've switched my world from b42.13.1 to 42.13.2 and so far no issues i can see, Multiplayer of course, hosted from in-game, lag persists, especially in muldraugh, I guess from all the rendering and calculations, also it was raining heavily at the time, plus in a vehicle.
We are yet to experience the non hittable zombies.
Gonna have to host on a dedicated and try it that way, because my wifes laptop and my pc are connected to the same switch through lan that goes to the router, so the packets you were mentioning might get synced faster?
So Cool MadDan joined the chat btw 🙂

Well, guys, I have a theory.
Just tested it on the vanilla 13.2 and again on my migrated to 13.2 server, and it looks like zeds that were spawned before migration may have this bug, but on the completely new area with “newborn” zeds I didn’t catch this.

Mr. MadDan, I can confirm that on fresh save, vanilla 42.13.2 everything works fine, thank you for your attention to this
