Can you try using the "Alternate launch" option when launching the game through Steam? If the game fails to start again, can you share your console.txt file, found in %UserProfile%\Zomboid?

Check out the mods you are playing with, maybe one of them is made for another version. I reseted the mods and after that it works fine. And if that's not working re install the game maybe. And I think it will work after that.
