Can’t make myself admin in my own server using SteamCMD

Can somebody please explain how I make myself admin of my own server? B42.13.1 Hosting a dedicated server using SteamCMD

I’ve tried half a dozen different ways and none of them work

First in game /setaccesslevel, says I don’t have the right

Second /grantadmin didn’t work

Tried adding adminpassword= to the .ini, it gets overwritten

Tried making myself owner of the server through SteamCMD, still nothing

I’m at my wits end here

I’ve tried multiple names including my Steam username and in game player name. And in game character name… still nothing

What do you mean? I've tried typing that a million times into the ingame chat and it tells me i dont have the right... also i can't type in the SteamCMD console

im assuming you did it caps sensitive as well?

it should be your steam username

Can you share a screenshot of your player character and another one of how you are typing the command exactly

i have tried multiple commands in game with all my different names Steamusername, playerusername, ingame character name.... alll say i dont have the right

I've tried multiple names, like i said, same result

I don't understand

it shouldn't be so hard to sign in as an admin on my own server

Can you enable the usernames? You have to write your username

Or screenshot the ESC > Player menu

You also didnt screenshot how you are writing it

Do it before you press enter

You cannot use the in game chat for commands then, since you arent an admin

You have to write the command in the server console

I doubt that, it likely just doesnt show what you are typing

Click the window, type save, press enter

That bug is super annoying when trying to do things. is this also why rcon doesn't get feedback until you send another command

You’d think you could just sign in with a different pw or account or something…

but noooo… you have to type in the CMD window that doesn’t show what you’re typing lol

You can actually, the dedicated server asks you for the admin account password at the start

You log in with the account name "admin" and the password

Most people just use the commands though if they have access to the console

You had to have set one when launching the server

It wouldnt start otherwise

I just set up the server yesterday…

It never asked me for an admin password

If I knew the admin password I wouldn’t have taken half a day to figure this out lol

The only passwords I changed are the RCON and the password to join, in the .ini

I noticed there is a “admin” player in the admin “user list”window. But I never made an admin account!

I have to assume you have an admin account from an older attempt at making a server

You can delete the admin account, then restart the server

It will ask you to make a new admin account and password

What about the password? If it’s autogenerated how will I know what it is?

I’m afraid if I delete that admin account it will screw something up…

Simply trying to log in to the admin account using the “join password” gives me this msg.

When I try to connect with that account without entering a password this is what it says…

So if I go in and delete the account, what will happen?

Will I be able to join without a password? Will I need to make a new password?

Or will the password be autogenerated and I won’t see it or know what it is?

Yes it will ask you in the cmd console

Removing the admin account doesnt do anything, it will just be recreated

And it will ask you to set the password once you launch the server

Then I’ll restart the server and let you know how badly it messed everything up lol

Ok the CMD is asking me now to enter a new admin password…

wtf tho? Why didn’t it ask the first time?

I remember needing to confirm the password. But oh well, now I just created a new one lol

I was so hung up on not being able to give my character admin powers in game…

And the CMD window hiding my text didn’t help! lol

But I think I got it all worked out now…
