#B42 - Zombie (Heat Seeking Missiles)

Hi all,

Not sure if anyone else is experiencing this in Build 42, but zombies are behaving almost like heat-seeking missiles for us, particularly in multiplayer.

Let me explain.

We’re in a fresh world on a hosted MP server and started out in Echo Creek. We’ve managed to find basic melee weapons (hammer and crowbar) and have been slowly working through the area. Over 4 in-game days, the two of us have killed just under 400 zombies, yet the situation feels endless.

No matter how many we clear, zombies continue to:

Actively move toward the house we are set up in.
Approach mainly from two consistent directions.
Seem to “home in” on the building rather than wandering naturally.

What’s strange is that:

You can sometimes walk past zombies and they won’t react to you.
Despite this, they will still continue walking directly toward the house.
They often only stop or react if you get right in front of them.

Echo Creek isn’t a large area, yet it feels impossible to clear. We’ll kill 10, then 5 more arrive. We clear those, then 15 turn up. Then another 10, and so on. There’s no clear sense that the area is ever thinning out, and we can’t understand where they’re all coming from.

To rule out the obvious:

No guns
No vehicles
No loud noise
Only melee combat
Respawn is disabled
Migration is disabled

This makes it feel like zombies are being constantly pulled toward our location rather than behaving like ambient population.

Is anyone else seeing this behaviour in B42 multiplayer?
Is this an intended change, a migration-related bug, or something specific to hosted servers?

Any insight would be appreciated.

This is a known bug, it will be fixed in the next version

@rigid cypress Understood, thanks for the clarification. With the situation described above, where are the zombies actually coming from repeatedly?
Given the current behaviour/bug, is it realistically possible to fully clear towns at the moment, or will zombies continue to funnel in regardless?

If it helps, the exact same thing happened to me on my dedicated server. The issue occurs when you change zombie-related settings while the server is running. It gets fixed as soon as you restart the server.

Meaning clearing the town is very difficult as long as the bug is happening and players are in the town

Its known and will be adressed, I do not know if it will be the next patch or future ones
