Lore Sneak Peak:
- At first, it didn't even have a name. Some called it the fever, others called it the Knox Flu, and the government called it contained.
No one remembers the first case. A man stumbling out of a bar on the edge of Louisville, chalked up to too much whiskey. A family that locked their mother in the bedroom because she wouldn't stop screaming through the night. The police reports blurred together, and when people started to vanish, the explanations sounded rehearsed. - The government swore it was under control. The radio said it was nothing. The TV anchors told us to stay calm. But those same anchors vanished from their desks overnight. The broadcasts went silent.
- By the time the truth reached us, it was too late.
Phase I: The First Cases (Late June – Early July, 1993)
- June 30th, 1993 – Louisville police respond to reports of a violent “deranged individual” outside a downtown bar. The man was said to be incoherent, pale, and unusually aggressive. The incident is dismissed as intoxication.
- July 2nd, 1993 – Several families in Muldraugh and West Point report loved ones becoming feverish, violent, and unresponsive. Local doctors label it a “severe flu.”
- July 5th, 1993 – Hospitals in Jefferson County report a spike in unexplained fevers and violent behavior. The Louisville media refers to it as the “Knox Flu.”
