theyve been ripped. so youve lost their base protection until you get tailoring high enough to actually repair, not just put a patch over top. so you need new gloves.

removing patches then resewing them, that's what I've seen anyways

If you want to level up tailoring fast u need the already told method to just apply and remove patches best way is with a jacket with many spots and just Rip many clothes. And best exp give leather patches

that's because you have low taileroing skill and youre not using leather to repair leather gloves

shorten skirts, jeans ( straight leg only) and long socks. that will get you to level one, and you can rip fabric for thread. patches on your clothes, and or making various clothes and then ripping them back up from there
