For anyone want to know where/what to start blacksmithing

Materials

  • Scrap Metal: Obtained by disassembling metal objects; essential for crafting and forging.
  • Iron Ore: Mined or found; used as a primary resource in metalworking.
  • Clay: Collected from riverbanks or specific soil types; used in crafting molds and pottery.
  • Charcoal: Produced by burning wood in a charcoal pit; serves as fuel for the forge.
  • Bricks and Mortar: Required for constructing furnaces and forges.
    Tools
  • Anvil: A heavy metalworking tool.
  • Forge: A structure used to heat metals.
  • Tongs: Used to handle hot metal pieces safely during forging.
  • Smithing Hammer: Essential for shaping metal on the anvil.
  • Bellows: Increases airflow to the forge, raising temperatures for effective metalwork- Welding Torch: Useful for certain metal constructions and repairs.

where does one find iron ore nodes? and could you show a picture of how clay rich soil looks like? how does one gather clay from riverbanks?

I've nearly advanced into the iron age 😉 and I've found two oversights preventing players from making anything better than a primitive forge in 42.02:

First, iron bands (normal or small) have no recipe to make them yet. They have to be found, but they don't spawn in any containers so they VERY rarely spawn on the floor in buildings that have been trashed/looted.

Second, casting an anvil requires the Charcoal item specifically. Good luck finding 10 chunks of that, though! Looks like a small oversight.

Is making an indoor smithy possible or can you not build any of the workstations inside at all? Would like to make an actual Smithy not everything being outside

i don't know if possible for indoor. i grab picture from indie stone's. i already set up space for blacksmith outside next to my farm. just need to build them.
