G'day lads, back with another post. I've been wanting to explore the new towns that B42 has to offer, so I figured being a Nomad was the perfect way to do so. The star of this adventure is Cass McKinley, a scottish imigrant who came to kentucky a month prior to the outbreak. This mostly serves as a way for me to look back on this run in the future, as well as a bit of fun while I am playing.

(EDIT: There are a LOT of cool properties I am finding. I post the locations of them relative to the new Echo Creek spawning location whenever I find a cool place, so look out for those if your reading from the top.)

#

here are my characters stats as of starting this.

#

1 short blunt, offscreen

#

Seems the locals dont like scottish people.

#

first things first: find a car with a key.

#

Its not really a nomad run without a good vehicle to drive, after all.

#

Hoping to find a truck of some kind, but any vehicle will work to get me started.

#

Immediently found a rubber hose, very good find.

#

I'm leaving the M9 I have on me in the trunk of the car I found the hose in. I can always come back for it later.

#

Bingo.

#

key for a sedan in one of the houses.

#

Not what I want in the long run, but it will do for now.

#

I'm just up the street from the gas station too, so I can get gas there.

#

Even has a little gas.

#

Would ya look at that.

#

Just what I needed.

#

Engine on the car isnt the best, to say the least.

#

Luckilly the gas station nearby has a mechanics bay. Might be some engine repair parts in there.

#

The gas station has a few lighters, perfect for the charcoal grill I nicked while scouting out the gas station.

#

No dice for engine parts in the garage, but I did find a pretty nice flashlight.

#

Theres a few tires here too. Might pack one in case I get a blowout on the road.

#

Turns out the trailer is a bust, its a livestock trailer.

#

It is pretty cool they have these though, I was wondering how one would transport animals in B42.

#

There is that trailer, at least.

#

75000 for a house that large is too good to be true. For todays prices, anyway.

#

All packed and ready to hit the road.

#

I have a few mechanic related items, 2 gas cans, a few days worth of food, and a few other bread and butter items.

#

make that 3 gas cans, missed an empty one inside the gas station.

#

4*

#

Gas cans are way heavier in B42, but its worth it in my opinion. I'd rather miss out on a days worth of food than run out of gas in the middle of nowhere.

#

Decided I am packing a tire in case of an emergency.

#

On an unrelated note, the music in B42 is absolutely amazing. Fits in every way.

#

Expecially the mellow tunes that play when you arent in danger. Really makes you feel the loneliness and I love it.

#

Say goodbye to the gas station everyone.

#

For now, at least.

#

This truck has a key. Seems in better condition than the sedan.

#

Not by much though. 39% engine.

#

It IS better though, so I'll be taking it.

#

Now that I'm looking at it actually...

#

The sedans only issue is the engine. Besides that, its green everywhere else.

#

Truck is rough all around.

#

I'll stick with the sedan for now.

#

This house seems like a great base location. Secluded enough to avoid the zombies, has a well, lots of room for activities

#

I'm not going to stay here this run, of course. Being a Nomad and all.

#

Heres the location relative to the new starting town, if anyone wants to come here.

#

I forgot the name, I apologize.

#

I think its Echo Creek?

#

Theres even a fireplace for the colder winter months.

#

Two, actually.

#

I found Bill!

#

I knew he would come back to me.

#

Say hello to Bill, everyone.

#

You cannot enter this room due to the lamp there.

#

Theres even an attic. Lots of things you could do with this.

#

Heres the location relative to Echo Creek again. Thought I should post it since I am leaving. Its marked "Great base location"

#

I do dislike how the game wont even let you attempt to fix an engine if your not mechanics 4. How are you supposed to learn how to fix an engine if you cant tear apart an engine and put it back together?

#

Found a crowbar in a wrecked van.

#

There are a LOT of zombies protecting that road. There has to be somethin' good up there.

#

I cleared most of them out as they slowly shambled over. The ones by the road, at least.

#

I'll head up there tomorrow, see what all the fuss is about.

#

Some more barricades further up the road.

#

Nothin' but a lake and far too many zombies up this road.

#

Strange that they would block it off in such a way though.

#

The road does keep going, but its impossible to get a vehicle through without chopping down some trees to clear the way.

#

I'll have to come back another time, I'm not prepared enough for this.

#

I do wonder if its the route to the sanitorium, though.

#

Curiousity may end up getting the better of me.

A Normal Nomad Run (B42)

#

This is a nice little house with a fireplace and a garage.

#

lots of space for activities, too.

#

Was hoping this car had a key, no dice though.

#

I did find a couple saws and a respirator mask though.

#

And a hatchet.

#

I'll stop here for the night and wash my clothes.

#

I just noticed this kitchen doesnt have a fridge.

#

very strange.

#

This very well may be the best place I have found yet.

#

Lots of land, right by a water source.

#

Bit secluded from the road.

#

Theres even an old settlers shack, or what looks to be one.

#

Heres a story, if you wanna read it.

#

Bout 1 1/2 years ago I went up to Taylorsville California to see one of my moms best friends with her.

#

Taylorsville is a town far up in the mountains, about a 3-4 hour drive from any "big cities". There were a few local towns around though.

#

Anyway, let me get to the point.

#

The house we were staying at had a very old settlers shack right beside it. Had a tree fallen on the roof of it.

#

It was left to the elements, so all the doors and windows were missin', deer had been in it, etc.

#

It was pretty cool to see though.

#

I really miss that place. You had power and wifi out there, but had to heat the house yourself at night with a fireplace.

#

Rained a lot and the scenery was real damn beautiful.

#

If I ever end up buying a house, I might consider goin' someplace similar to that. Seems nice.

#

Anyway, back to what your readin' this for.

#

This place has everything you could ever need. A well, an indoor growhouse for the winter months, lots of land for building outbuildings, a nice spacious house with what seems to be a fireplace, and a lake right beside it.

#

Antique stove, very nice.

#

Ham radio

#

Seems these lads were into hunting,

#

Theres even one of those new crafting stations.

#

These are called looms, right? Its kinda hard to see in that image but it is there.

#

This is a very cozy bedroom.

#

I think I'll spend today as a rest day.

#

I have had muscle strain on all my limbs ever since I left the dead end lake road.

#

Good time to read mechanics II, as well,.

#

Theres even a sizable basement. This was on the inside of the house, so its most likely one that will be here if you come to this place.

#

Here it is relative to echo creek. Its marked at the top left with "GREAT Base Location"

#

The place even has a garage for you to work on vehicles.

#

What more could you need from a base?

#

If your lucky, there will be seeds in this building when you come here, so you can get started farming immediently.

#

A lot of the property is cut off by a river too, so it would be easy to secure from all angles.

obsidian panther
#

Theres actually a lot of cool houses around here to base at.

#

None that stick out as much as the last few I have found, but they are still pretty nice.

#

Pretty cozy sitting room here.

#

The road splits here. I'm gonna leave the trailer at this house and head up the road to the left, see if its a dead end or not.

#

Seems to be a town of some sort

#

The trailers mostly full anyway. I'll go get it later.

#

Nothin' here but a whole lot of zomboids.

#

Theres a few decent looking cars in that parking lot, but I cant get close with the horde there.

#

Went up the street and found this house to park behind.

#

Its just up the road from a few interesting looking places, too.

#

This place is a nightmare.

#

Usually this many zombies wouldn't even be a problem for me, but now I cant even think about battling a group of 8 with muscle strain in the equation.

#

I'll have to do some strength training, I suppose.

#

Actually having train cars is a very nice feature.

nova tendon
#

Did you die? stressed

obsidian panther
#

oh no I didnt, I was just playing other games

#

I got helldivers II and have been playin' it with my buds for a while lol

obsidian panther
#

Sleepin' in this basement for the night.

#

I was debating sleeping in the car, but with all the noise I have been making it seems a bit out of the question.

#

Lots around the nearby forest next to this house.

obsidian panther
#

Well.

#

A scrach and a laceration.

#

Having to learn the new muscle strain mechanics and worrying about that while fighting really puts a dent in my focus.

#

Time to head out of this god forsaken town and back to the trailer to hope I dont get a sick moodle in a day.

#

Lost the beanie, too.

#

Damn zombie knocked it off me when I was fighting em.

#

The scratch healed. And the laceration seems to be healing nicely.

#

By the end of the day I should know for sure, I took prone to illness.

#

This update does a really good job of making you feel utterly hopeless.

#

Groups I used to be able to handle with ease seem like a horde.

#

Until you train with a weapon a whole bunch, entire parts of the map seem to be closed off to you unless you want to spend a couple days fooling around in the woods to lure them all away.

#

I do enjoy the muscle strain mechanic though, for the most part.

#

Heres what I managed to mark of that town, if anyone wants it.

#

Theres the route to it from Echo Creek.

#

Echo creek being at the bottom, and the new town being at the top left.

#

Another small titbit: the stealth feels a bit strange to me. Having the zombies be able to hear / see you from off your screen (from what I have experienced) means that even killing one zombie makes more than you can deal with come towards your location.

#

Seems like we're going along the outskirts to wherever that trail lead to.

#

Found a shotgun in the trunk of a police car that was in a roadblock.

#

Paired with a box of shells, too.

obsidian panther
#

Forgot to mention last night: my wound healed fine as far as I can tell. Unless they changed the way prone to illness works with lacerations / scratches I'll be fine.

#

@obsidian panther what mod did you use to get the trailers on b42

#

Also thanks for posting this stuff you made finding a base really easy for me

jade furnace
#

^ Loved the base suggestions, might use them once we get multiplayer and I start playing again more longterm lol

#

Just past the barricade I got the shotgun at, theres a split in the road.

#

I really want to check out Brandenburg, so I'll head right for now.

#

Good thing I did. Thats an amazing trailer.

#

its condition is absolutely awful, but thats nothing we cant fix later down the line.

#

Ah. Seems this one is also a livestock trailer.

#

There were a few rabbits in there too.

#

I dont have any use for them, so I let them go.

#

Better to give them a chance at life than have them rot in a trailer.

#

It just now occurred to me that the helicopter is coming any day now.

#

Found this pretty cozy cabin down a side road.

#

Not really anything of interest here though. No nearby water sources. It is in the middle of a forest though, so I suppose you might be able to do some good hunting here.

#

Then again, there are a few locations I have shown previously that have much more than this place, and are the same distance away from towns.

#

If anyone does want the location of this place, here it is relative to the town I was in earlier.

#

If you need to know how to get to said town, I posted how to get to it from Echo Creek earlier in the post.

#

Oh hey, eggs.

#

If I were to ever take care of something in this game, it would 100% be chickens.

#

They give you eggs, companionship, and a damn good dinner at the end of the day.

#

Heres the house that comes with the chicken coop.

#

Doesnt have a well, but it does have lots of space, land, and a chicken coop.

#

here it is relative to the town I was in earlier.

#

Apparently that town is called Ekron. Just picked up a flier that had a house for sale in it.

#

Radio just lit up like a christmas tree. Helicopters comin'.

#

I barely have enough food to last me till the end of the day. If I want to head into Brandenburg, I'm going to have to do some local scavenging before.

#

Unfortunately this household was the type to not have a single TV in the residence.

#

At least theres a radio though.

#

...

#

Nevermind.

#

Oh hey, this house flier is in Brandenburg.

#

Lets me know I am going in the right way, at least.

#

I was actually thinking about going here. Going to school was my only reason for coming to Kentucky.

#

Who knows. Maybe I'll end up going there some day.

#

Something just broke in downstairs.

#

They dont know I'm here, just have to stay quiet.

#

Blocked up the upstairs. Its not the best protection, but it will let me know if somethin's coming.

#

Poor souls.

#

This was probably a good family before all this went down.

#

Its rather sad to think that billions of lights have been snuffed out. Each one with their own story and memories.

#

Gone in the span of a month at most.

obsidian panther
#

We're actually very close to that house I saw in brandenburg.

solid sinew
obsidian panther
#

There is a corpse in that blue car.

#

Thats new, I believe.

solid sinew
obsidian panther
#

We've arrived in Brandenburg. The outskirts of it, at least.

#

I'm going to do some looking around for a good place to camp for a while. Theres a house next to this road that seems to have a fence around it. I'll check that first.

#

Oh yeah, this looks great.

#

Its private enough.

#

I can park my car where those tables are now while I do some scouting around this neighborhood.

#

The hell happened here...

#

Much better.

#

I dont think I want to sleep in that house. Whatever the previous owners did made it stink to high hell.

#

That shed seems better. I can put my sleeping bag in there and spruce it up a bit.

#

I know staying here for a while goes against everything this run stands for, but lets be honest. A nomad run isnt a nomad run without a proper rig to drive.

#

And that car? aint a proper rig.

#

Sure it got me here, but the engine is at 22% and it barely has any space for everything I need to haul around.

#

Oh youve got to be-...

#

I left my sleeping bag at Ekron.

#

Its still in the basement of the house I was outside of.

#

Smelly house for tonight it is.

#

Its not the best looking place yet, but it will get there.

#

It does well enough as a cooking spot for now, at least.

#

The hell kinda name is Long Rader.

#

I swear they made food harder to find in this update.

#

Some houses have nothing at all in em.

#

Got myself a comfortable chair to sleep in.

#

Would you look at that.

#

Seems in decent condition. I wont know until I get over there though.

#

I mean...

#

the engine is only a little better than the one I have.

#

This is much better.

#

If it has a key, I'll be taking this.

#

Now thats a good find.

#

Antique Ovens are very good. Tend to be rather rare too.

#

Its right next to this small lake in Brandenburg.

#

Near the outskirts of town, it seems.

#

If you take the route I took out of Echo Creek, you'll come right to this place.

#

Theres a little island on the lake.

#

That would be pretty cool to build to, set up a miniature base there.

#

Its stuff like this that makes me rather sad.

#

I would be the type of person to go to this, make a couple friends, watch the fireworks.

#

Even if I did go now, there would be no one to celebrate with me.

#

Well, I believe thats all from me for tonight lads. See you next time I post.

#

Heres a recap of everything I have explored thus far.

#

Have a good night lads.

obsidian panther
#

Welcome back to can we find a different car that runs other than this pos.

#

That red car is in much better condition, but its the same car with the same storage space as the black one.

#

2 LESS actually.

#

at least it runs better.

#

What I really need is a new trailer, but thats probably not gonna happen anytime soon.

#

I'm thinking about finding some cardboard boxes and throwin' em in the corner there, for a bit more storage.

#

Not that I need much more, its not like I am staying here long term. Just enough to find some better equipment.

#

Abandoned buildings?

#

Strange for a town thats supposedly looking to the future.

#

From what I can tell, pretty much every building here is completely torn apart / abandoned.

#

Theres no telling how big the city is from just this though. Maybe this is just an area they were in the process of tearing down.

dense wolf
#

i don’t want to spoil the lore for ya, but a newspaper you can find reveals that brandenburg was hit by a tornado and the local population is struggling to get local officials to help with the damage

#

which is why everything is destroyed or damaged - it basically was abandoned

obsidian panther
#

Ooh really? That makes much more sense.
