G'day lads, I'm back. After losing the last run in which I was building along the river, I cut my losses and said "Y'know what? Screw that, I'm gonna do it BIGGER and BETTER this time." So here we are. To start, I have 4 wounds, almost died in a pharmacy due to TWO alarms (those two alarms being the only two I opened other than my starter house), and got away with this pretty beat up but cool as all get out Chevelle. I'm across the map from the river as well.
#Building a Base by the River from Scratch: THE SEQUEL
1 messages Β· Page 1 of 1 (latest)
Around here is where I want to build this time.
Its just to the left of my previous spot.
I'll have to do much more lumber work to get to the area I want to build at, but hey, more lumber for the project.
I'm either going to build inbetween those two rivers or beyond them at the curve in the river.
We'll see when we actually get there.
Here is my lad. Pretty much the same build I had last time
This run however, we are starting on day 1. Not a week in like the previous save.
So yall get to see everythin' this time. No surprises.
I've secured this house as a pitstop for tonight.
Either that, or a place of residence until I figure out where I'm going.
The Chevelle is a gas guzzler, and it probably only has enough gas to barely make it to where I'm going.
At least theres a TV though.
I'm turning the far bedroom upstairs into a "safehouse".
Even comes with a single shot shotgun with no spare ammo.
Perfect for killing the horde thats breaking down my door!
Time for todays government mandated Life and Living.
Even though there was practically no chance of a break in happening, I am being extremely careful.
Doesnt take much to do, after all.
Well, I'm hittin' the road.
Say goodbye to this house, lads.
Probably the last time we're gonna see it unless I come back down here to clear the military surplus.
Stopped at this clinic in a little town up the road.
I think its name is... Elkron?
Ekron?
Hell if I know, its a town.
It was either this place or Muldraugh.
And I am NOT going to Muldraugh.
I mean, its a good town dont get me wrong
but the zombies
most of my long term runs have ended in either west point or muldraugh
I'm gonna check around this town to see if it has any vehicles I can use to carry supplies.
Whislt the Chevelle is nice, it lacks in the storage space department.
Looks like I'm gonna need to make this thing work after all.
After searching most of the main parking lots around town, theres not a single vehicle that has good storage space. One with a key, that is.
Plus last run I had about 150 weight in concrete powder, so I suppose I dont really need all that space.
Luckilly for me, it has two rear seats I can use for storage.
That duffel bag there is full of supplies I'll need to build my house. Nails, Screws, etc.
At least the water didnt go out instantly this time.
Last run I pleasantly found out that the water was off the second I spawned in.
I'm about done clearing this place. Theres only a few more areas I need to pick clean of its important items.
Theres a store up the road with a gun section that I can break into, might see if theres a nice gun or two I can take with me for the road.
I did find this pretty nice brush cutter at the hardware store though.
If I train with this, it will be a great weapon to use.
I'm debating taking the bike with me.
It would take up valuable storage space, but I could use it if the Chevelle runs out of gas.
We'll see when it comes time to leave this place, I suppose.
I am not taking the bike with me. After packing theres just too much I need to take with me, and the bike would take up too much precious space.
Turns out theres a gas station in this lil' town.
Fuel will no longer be an issue thankfully.
Off I go. I havent found a West Point map yet, so I'm just kinda guessing where to go here.
Well would you look at what I found!
By chance I happened to take the road that lead to a used car lot, and this beat up trailer was sittin' there waiting for me.
Its not the prettiest thing in the world, sure
But it gives me a place to live / store my items while I work on the base.
Thats all I need really.
The inside could use some work...
It has a bed at least.
I'll stop by a house in West Point and nick a tv before I head out to the base spot.
I almost died for a TV.
But hey!
tv!
Feels so strange not seeing the old base here anymore.
Well lads, here we are.
Last time we were here, we had a lot more supplies, but I think we'll do just fine.
I'll need to head into WP eventually for food and materials to upkeep my axes
But, thats for another time.
For now, we settle in.
We stan Dean in this household.
_
I have just now realized I do not have a saw.
For some reason the thought never occurred to me that I didnt have one.
Guess I thought I was on the other save or smth.
WELL.
Looks like we'll be heading back to west point sooner than expected lads.
For now, like any good carpenter
I am going to drown myself in bourbon.
Turns out you can make stone saws using a mod I installed.
Its not a permanent solution since these do break, but it will work for the time being.
Upgraded the trailer a bit.
Much more homey than it was before.
Turns out the trailer has an engine, and you can start it to charge up the battery a bit.
Sadly, I dont have the key for it, but I can always hotwire it eventually.
Made some rain barrels so I dont have to walk all the way down to the river to get water.
Added a proper door to the bathroom as well as a few other bits of furniture.
Everything from the car has been sorted and put away. I have around 1 week of food, maybe 2 if I ration it.
Helluva man that is lol
I wish you luck with em, hope that you last a long while
Last run I did in this area, there was a 5% total condition van in this spot
Now its a pretty nice older vehicle
Well, I say pretty nice...
In reality its just as bad if not worse than the other one.
I died bro there was some glitch brought on my mods which spawned hordes of zomboids simultaneously near me I stood no chance
oof
did you have a horde night mod or somethin?
mods like that spawn zombies every once and a while
Messed around with the trailer a bit, added a tv stand instead of a bookcase.
Decided to take the rig into west point.
I dont have enough supplies to begin work on the base, so this is rather neccesary.
Maybe the Cell updated late?
Also I love this type of journal stuff
Clearing the FD in West Point wasnt too bad.
I was lucky the large group by the road didnt wander over when I was clearin' this parking lot.
Couple of good vehicles in here.
If that Jeep has a key I would love to take it home with me.
__
Sadly it doesnt, but at least I know where it is for later.
__
I have to be rather careful when it comes to using electricity in the trailer.
I cant turn on the trailer generator to charge the battery, and hooking it up to a vehicle doesnt charge it at all.
Having this parking lot is a good thing other than being able to loot the parking lot. I can use it as a staging area of sorts for the rest of West Point.
Clear areas in this town are rather rare, after all.
For some reason the front doors of this place are wide open.
I'll have to deal with the lads out front to shut em, theres no way they wont see me shut the doors.
A few of them wandered away into the trees nearby, so only had to deal with a few.
This station is going to give me all the axes I could ever need.
... Hopefully.
Thats what I love to see.
Found a couple of good condition wood axes too.
I found a few saws too, so I dont need to use the stone saw anymore.
I completely forgot that the helicopter is coming soon.
I need to pack up and get back to base so I dont drag every zombie in West Point down on me.
Well hello there, beautiful.
Wasnt expecting to find one of these here, but I am very glad that I did.
This roadside bag has a car battery charger.
Very nice
Found a water dispenser for the trailer.
Originally when planning what I was gonna build, I was thinking about just making it on the river
however
Inbetween those two lakes might be a much better idea.
Secure both ends and you have a fortress.
Plus it would be a lot less work than going around them to get to the river bank.
Found a spare battery for the trailer in case it dies.
Driving home in the night and the rain.
Usually I would love situations like this, but not when theres hundreds of zombies plaguing the road home.
This Chevelle GUZZLES gas. When I left to head to West Point earlier today, the tank was a little under half.
I only went from the top left to the blue building at the bottom right and back.
That being said, it is the only vehicle with a key I've found thats in semi drivable condition. So no complaints here.
Barely made it to LAL this morning.
I got back around 1:30 and forgot to set my alarm, woke up at 6:10. Thankfully it was a late showing today.
I love the way this lil trailer turned out.
I always enjoy building out in the wilderness in Zomboid.
It feels like thats what the game wants you to do, in my opinion.
Turns out im in the wrong spot.
That red dot is roughly where I am, at that curve. The two lakes are a bit past that at the other bend.
Time to pack up, I suppose.
Or not.
Today is as good of a day as any to just stay inside and read, I suppose.
I only have about 5-6 boxes of nails in my storage.
Not enough to build anything massive, but it might be enough to get a small shack to live out of.
Then again, I can always just live in the trailer and start the framework of the bigger buildings.
I hear it.
The helicopter is always a bittersweet thing for me.
Sure, it drags down zombies on you and creates hordes around your safehouse,
But its also some of the last human interaction you will ever experience in this game.
Hearing it slowly fly off into the distance as it makes its last pass almost makes me wish it would stick around a bit longer.
Strange, I know.
And as quickly as it came.
I always wonder where the helicopter heads to when it stops flying overhead.
Does it ever land? Maybe its still used in other parts of the country.
We'll never know.
Finished reading Mechanics 1 while it was flying overhead though, so I can start leveling that whenever I get a junk car to work on.
Yall remember that 5% condition Plymouth we saw up the road?
That would be perfect to grind a little on.
I always hate hearing him say this specific line.
Means I cant watch LAL and Deans schexy abs anymore. π β
And there it went.
I'm leaving those rain collectors here for now. Dont wanna waste the water in them.,
Two more cars to add to the junkyard.
Here we are.
Looks like theres a pretty good amount of space inbetween the two lakes, too.
Might as well start on the road to it whilst I'm up by it.
Only have a bit more to go, but I'm getting to the heavilly crowded bit of the forest now.
And there it is.
Well thats concerning.
First zombie I have seen out in the woods.
Blared my horn for about 20 seconds and waited. Nothing else came.
Musta just been a stray.
Nice an' cozy.
Just know noticed my character has sprouted a beard.
We were bald and clean shaven at the start of this run, and I was expecting it to take a bit longer than that to grow one.
A pleasant surprise, to be sure.
Tomorrow I am going to head to a group of houses nearby, nick some food from their kitchens.
We're running a bit low. Down to a can of sardines, tuna, and assorted sweets.
I do need to start taking it easy on the old girl. Hood is down to 11%.
Dont worry about the engine, it was always that low.
What I would love to do is find an alternative vehicle, so we can park this one up and stop using it until its fixed.
We dont have that luxury, sadly.
Wish there was someone to share this beer with me. Nothin' out here but me and the birds.
Oooooooo.
Would you look at that.
One of the houses is barricaded.
Scratch that.
TWO houses are barricaded.
Good luck, eh?
Looks like I pissed off the nest.
I hear a LOT of zombies breaking down doors in there.
The house is ours, gentlemen.
Good lord.
Well hello, Katana. Dont mind if I dooooo.
Unfortunately this house doesnt carry much in the way of food items.
Not complaining of course, I have a Katana.
But we do need food.
Hopefully the other two houses will provide.
Nevermind, it was in the laundry room for some odd reason.
Oh hey a grill.
Dont mind if I do.
The second house was a lot more profitable food wise.
A few high caloric stocks and a lot of canned items.
Found my favorite hat.
I'm not going to be wearing it much other than around base, because the last time I wore this had the Rule of Cool murdered me.
We found Bill!
He must have wandered up here after our last character got killed.
Say hello to Bill, everyone.
Is it just me or are zombies really good at consistantly dropping 2 hinges and a doorknob.
Driving this thing like a racecar up these backroads is going to get me killed one of these times.
But its just so fun to drive, its really hard not to.
Home sweet home.
Set up the BBQ in the trailer.
I really wanna paint these walls black if I can. I think it would look nice.
So nice being able to cook inside the trailer for once.
I usually have to go outside and light the fire.
Nothing wrong with that of course, I just think its more convenient to not have to go back and forth.
Note to self:
Do not put bleach in the food cabinet.
I have somehow misplaced ALL of my sheet rope.
Never mind, I'm just blind.
Starting work on a warehouse of sorts.
I wont be able to get past framing until I reach Carp. 7, but I can always build the framing.
Hmm, yes. Equip Plank.
Got the framework for the place done.
I'm probably gonna keep this to one story. The chances of me collecting enough loot to fill this building is rather slim.
Plus, I can always expand it if needed.
I'm thinking about having a series of buildings set along this river here.
Have a main road towards the back and a walking path along the river.
Vehicle parking near the very end as well as along the path.
We'll see when we get there though.
I usually put all the things I need into one building, so having multiple buildings for certain things would be rather cool.
I would need a LOT of nails for that though. My 4 1/2 boxes I have currently isnt even gonna come close to cutting it.
I'm going to have to head into West Point to get Carp. 3 and 4 books.
The school had some last run, so we'll check there.
Plus its not downtown, so its not as populated.
Dont get me wrong, theres going to be a LOT of zombies there still.
Just not as many... Hopefully.
I cant wait for the day where I never need to head into West Point again and just live off the land.
Thats very far off, but it could happen one day.
Fill enough fuel barrels that we wouldn't need to leave.
Save up enough food in the freezers to last us for months.
A man can dream, cant he?
No like bro horde night only should spawn them at night for me they spawn near me every min
very strange lol
are you sure you didnt accidentally download a challenge mod or somethin? I cant say I have heard of vanilla zomboid doing that lol
Even modded zomboid tbh
Happy Thanksgiving to anyone who is reading this!
Good news. Raiding the School in WP yielded not only the two carpentry books I needed, but a genny mag as well!
Granted I dont have a generator yet, but still.
Good haul if I dont say so myself.
The next few days are going to be dedicated to reading / grinding carpentry.
Once I get to level 7, I can finally start work on the warehouse.
I only have enough nails to finish the warehouse most likely, so I'll need to get more before building any other buildings.
Time to tow this other van to the base.
I really need to get to mechanics 2 so I can hotwire vehicles. The chevelle has a 1% hood.
Theres the second zombie I have seen at the camp.
I'm starting to feel less and less safe out here.
Blaring my car horn drew out another one.
If theres a horde hiding out in these forests I have to deal with it now before it sneaks up on me and ends the run.
No more came. I still dont trust it though.
I'm gonna have to do a through clearing of the woods before I feel safe here again.
5 more boxes o' nails.
I'll need a bit more to build what I have planned, but this is a good start.
I have around 8 1/2 boxes now.
Decided to switch to using a crowbar for the time being. The brush cutters are really nice, but I only have one spare, and I dont wanna damage that too much.
I was hoping one of these cars had a key so I could trade out the Chevelle, but no dice.
Found some black paint for the inside o' the trailer
Turns out I had a few more boxes of nails than I thought.
Woke up and went outside the trailer to discover a LOT of zombies migrating my way.
had to come inside and bunker down.
Something loud must have gone off right before I exited the trailer.
Seems they moved on.
.. moved on right beside my trailer.
Finally a bit of good luck.
This F350 has a key. Looks like its decent too.
.. Could be worse.
The rest of the truck is pretty solid.
Shame the engine is so low, but we can work around that for the time being.
Its better than the Chevelle in terms of storage, and will be much better at hauling the trailer.
Just gotta hope it doesnt die on me in the middle of a horde...
About 7 more just casually wandered over here.
I'm beginning to think this is the group that I lured off when I first pulled up at this place making their way back over here in clumps
Thats a much better fit for the trailer.
I'll have to leave the Chevelle parked here and bring it back another time.
I will be back for it eventually. I'm not gonna let the car that saved my life rot in a parking lot.
Well I'm not going that way.
If I wanna get into the storage place next door I'll have to head around back and leap the fence.
First run inside the storage place went ok.
Interior buildings gave me a few bags of plaster, some metal to repair the hood when I get to the proper mechanics skill, and engine parts.
I'm going to move the Chevelle inside, so the weather doesnt get to it much.
Why make it sit here in the cold, right?
Much better.
The last thing I want to try and do before heading out is find a generator.
I still need one o' those for the compound.
That and electrical books, but thats for another time.
There we are.
There went the power.
The sound of the grid going out always gives me a sinking feeling in my gut.
Cleared out the nearby gas station and hooked up the genny to put some gas in the truck.
Also filled up a few spare cans.
I always use these double wide freezers when it comes to storing fresh goods.
They dont use too much power on a generator, and they have much more space than a normal fridge freezer would provide.
In terms of efficiency theres no comparison.
The Chevelle would have used half a tank just getting back with the trailer.
Plus
Despite having a 30% engine, the truck didnt die on me once.
Ford power babyyy
Place is startin to come along.
Alright lads. Big plans for today.
I plan on getting the warehouse done so I can finally unload the junk from the trailer, as well as have an area to sort / store all future loot.
Some progress on the front side of the warehouse.
Finished the walls for the place. Now I need to do the flooring and the roof.
Made good progress on the flooring today.
Got the downstairs flooring and most of the roof done today. Tomorrow I'll be able to do the finishing touches up here.
As well as start on adding the crates in the store room.
I have somehow misplaced my Sledgehammer.
How do I always do this every run...
Nevermind, it was in the trailer.
And there we are. All the roofs and walls are done.
Apparently those two plants are a permanent resident of the storeroom. I cant pick em up no matter how hard I try.
I'll name them Greg and Stephen.
good tale, i'm going follow you π
Thanks mate! I appreciate yeh.
I dont really know how much I'm going to post, seeing as Indie Stone just said they are dropping Unstable for B42 before christmas possibly. Dont really wanna work up all this progress when B42 is gonna render it obsolute, y'know? We'll see though.
Yeah I know what you mean. I'm on fencing refuse to update or he'll with it and go ahead with update. I'm build base in muldrauge or whatever city called. One of warehouse/storage unit. I have in showcase.
I've checked that post out a few times. Its lookin' great so far!
sigh I die
Where is this?
more west from west point and east from riverside https://gyazo.com/3803cac504a04cc90e527b157d8ab5aa
Ah nice lake
thank you for coverin' me brother, kinda forgot about this post for a bit lol
