I was inspired by @sudden linden to build my base in the forest between West Point and Louisville. So far, this is where I've gotten.

#

this is as far. There big truck use as temporary storage

sudden linden
#

Yea I need to get some bigger truck mods. They're so ridiculously handy.

#

They did us dirty with the pittance the StepVan can hold. 145 is so small for a commercial cargo van.

gusty quartz
#

stepvan can hold 200 if you repair it up

sudden linden
#

Even then. Combined with the trailer, 300 kgs is still pretty wimpy for a single trip. I'd definitely love some large haulers like you have.

gusty quartz
#

when i found stepvan it was only hold 65 and extremely damaged. i careful bring it to resident where i can find numbers of sheet of metal to fix it up. but now all i need fix 4 tires

#

i dont see trailer anywhere yet. if i found i would drag it there

sudden linden
#

The real chore to get is lightbulbs. They only last a few days

#

You have that lantern mod which I'm thinking of gettibg since I'm not in sandbox mode. Otherwise I'd just literally make lightbulbs last forever because they burn out silly fast.

gusty quartz
#

blubs are very easy to find. just look for car. grab them or house lamp

sudden linden
#

That or dismantle electronics. Lots of them have lightbulbs too

gusty quartz
#

yes lantern mod are good. there's two kind, gas and battery

#

battery dying too fast than gas

sudden linden
#

but it's still annoying. "Oh it's been 5 days, better replace literally every light on my property "

gusty quartz
#

i have mod 'machine!' that allowed me to craft saw bench make it cutting log much faster

#

anyway i better off 2 bed. it's 4 am here

gusty quartz
#

Update: Built the first tower and a short wall.
I'm going to make the wall thick because it bothers me to see a wall as thin as paper. There will be a passage inside the wall connecting tower to tower. I have a mod called "Build Roof," which allows me to add a floor on the second level while keeping my character on the first floor. The building next to the farm has been turned into a temporary home and a battery bank. Once the wall is complete, I’ll build a new, more comfortable house, and the temporary home will be converted into a garden shed.

gusty quartz
#

Update:

The rain finally came, and all the barrels are now full of water!

I laid down wooden planks on the floor to mark where the walls and tower will be. I also installed stairs for access to the second floor.

What happened to the Stepvan? I took it apart after salvaging the engine, bulbs, etc., before breaking it down into metal pieces. It kept getting stuck whenever I drove it on dirt or grass. It wasn't worth keeping, but the big truck can handle those areas without any issues, so…

I brought a shopping cart back to the base so I can use it to load logs each time I chop down a tree. It helps carry them without slowing me down or exhausting me too much.

As for storage, I moved the big truck to the northeast to make room for six shelves, which I'll use to store food. I emptied out the giga store (canned goods) and brought everything back to the safe zone. So much to do!

sudden linden
#

That's shaping up pretty nice so far.

gusty quartz

why i end up unfollow this post. i never click on unfollow

sudden linden
#

Yea happened to me as well on mine lol.

gusty quartz

sudden linden
#

Think if inactive for like 5 days or something.

#

You made any further progress?

gusty quartz
#

that lame, i lost interest since i saw YouTube about B32 they make me suffer to dying wait for that game

#

not yet

#

but i watch few YT about build house/base from scratch, they look great and make my base look ... shame'

#

i tried build a dock. by put down wood floor expand from dirt to water. it wont let me keep goings

gusty quartz
#

Update:

I was headed to Louisville to find more solar panels, but I found a number of good supplies at a military checkpoint. For some reason, there were very few zombies, so I could explore a bit. I never made it to Louisville, but I found a satellite dish and a scanner. Not sure what they’re for, but I brought them back anyway.

The gate I built at the fence turned out to be too small for the truck to fit through—smh—but that’s okay. Only people can go through there, not vehicles.

Also, my farm are finally growing!

gusty quartz
#

Noooooo sigh I went to louisville to find solar panel and i found numbers of panel. Then I turn around find tons of zombie block my path AARRGGHH

I learn my mistake at first attend build house as small size. I was rushes into build rain collect hook up with sink. This time... I'm not rushes. if I need water. just go back city and get some water from some house or store. they carries tons of them. The first house was only 1 floor with badly have room for everything basic I needs.

#

This time, I'm plan to build 3 floor. 1st floor as storage and batteries for solar panels. 2nd floor water sink, kitchen, living space, 3rd floor rain collect barrels.

#

1st floor won't have any windows. 2nd will have some windows

gusty quartz
#

work on 2nd floor.

gusty quartz
#

Noooo!!!! I hit wrong key and character jump over wall frame to death. was work on wall around 2nd floor... sigh new character or new map start again mmmm

sudden linden

I'm using that skill recovery mod but my honestly my first character died without me making the journal book first so... my second character literally started with nothing. Plus, my second character missed out all the TV shows every 6 hours 😦

#

But having items from 1st character helps so yeah, hell with it!

gusty quartz
#

i use crrd mod that allowed me to level skill as i read book. let me see if i can find book again :p

I built a base on that little area too, glad to see someone else realized what a good spot it was. This is probably one of the only pictures I have of it, as I didnt seem to take any of when it was more finished than this. I had a wall going across the island, a garage, and a small outbuilding I used to fish from. Lasted around 4 months before I died clearing the road to Muldraugh spiffo

gusty quartz

i hate when you cant do reload to last saave

The Story of Santa Zed
Once upon a time in Knox Country, Santa Zed roamed the streets every winter, a peculiar zombie draped in tattered red and white robes with a jingling bell in one hand. Despite his undead state, Santa Zed was a symbol of hope—a reminder that even in the apocalypse, the spirit of the holidays lived on. Survivors often left gifts for each other near his path, a quiet tradition inspired by his appearance.

But one fateful December, Santa Zed wandered too close to a survivor's base. It was an accident—a misunderstanding—but the survivors, wary and scared, saw him as just another threat. In the chaos of survival, Santa Zed was lost.

Though Santa Zed is gone, his legend remains. Survivors now honor his memory by continuing the tradition of leaving gifts and sharing moments of peace during the harsh winter months.

**A Siren Song of Doom **
I was on my way back to my base with a trailer full of canned food, feeling pretty accomplished. Then, I spotted a car with a light bar. Naturally, I couldn't resist checking it out. I hopped in, turned on the lights, and blared the siren just for fun. Satisfied with my little joyride, I went back to my truck.

As I got ready to drive forward, somehow, I pressed E instead of W—muscle memory betrayed me! Before I realized it, I was out of the truck with six zombies pounding at the door. Needless to say, it didn’t end well for me. SMH... why do W and E have to be so close?

Now I kinda wonder about those 100 days video in youtube. Does the youtuber secretly revive their character when they die off-camera?

the funny thing is the thing that ended the run wasnt the main road though. it was a single zombie hiding in a tree biting me as I hopped a fence

Thats actually pretty good location for base, also good wood source for the base tree

dense minnow
# gusty quartz **Update:** The rain finally came, and all the barrels are now full of water! ...

I made a similar base (just around the corner to the right from the peninsula) and it was one of my favorite builds. Once I found the genny mag and a generator and some basic tools, I started building it.

Since (in other saves) I've taken over the large apartment complex in LV, part of the 2nd floor of the Crossroads Mall, and several other warehouses. None were as much fun as a custom built base in that location. It was a great spot for getting to West Point, Muldraugh, and Louisville.

You've inspired me to give up my current playthrough and do this again.:)

dense minnow
# gusty quartz i have no idea how you build wood floor on water. i tried, game wont let me

Really? I just build a tile on the dirt next to the water, then it lets me build one next to it out over the water. Incidentally if you pull up that tile with a crowbar or disassemble it, its dirt underneath, so you can actually terraform the river. Not great if you want a zombie barrier, but could be useful in some cases.

I don't think I have a mod that allows me to do that, but I guess it's possible it's built into one of the ones that I do use.

stealing my base location eh? xD

The thing that leaves me puzzling is the amount of mods you need in order to do that...
