To prepare for winter yeah it’s mostly just about having a generator or a safe place with a heat source, even a car heater will do if that’s all you can get, winter clothes can be found in military surplus stores I’d go to the one up above rosewood
You don’t NEED winter clothing but if you intend on doing any looting it’s nice to keep warm because getting cold makes fighting pretty dangerous since your character slows down.

Ideally I'd say to look for an antique oven to put inside your home, that is, if said home doesn't have a fireplace already. This can be good to warm you up if you need it.
Ideally you should have some kind of garden, or fishing skill levels, because you're gonna want it unless you like scavenging food all the damn time. Fishing level 5 needed for winter fishing

Honestly though yeah winter isn’t a big deal which is why I set the weather to very cold on sandbox settings and even then it’s not unmanageable it’s basically zomboid except you have to bundle up which you likely already do. Just go play in the snow basically man.
