How do I measure if I'm good at zomboid or not?

I have almost 350 hours but I've never managed to make it too power and water shutoff and I don't know if thats because of my incompetence or just the game being more difficult than most games I play

I mainly die because I go canned food/gun case hunting through double story houses and then either find a lot in a single room in the house or just a random group and think "I should clear those guys before they become a problem"
