I know a good amount of the game mechanics from watching youtube videos/my runs so far but I feel like I don't know how to actually survive. I can make it for around a week normally, then I die trying to clear town hordes/loot major points. I also haven't really been able to fully hunker down yet, once the water and electricity run out I end up dead pretty quick.
