Just getting a black screen? unsure what to do. ive uninstalled and reinstalled. verified files. im not sure what to do at this point. just on an average windows laptop, ran it just fine months ago. any help would be appreciated.

Update 32 minutes in. and its finally loading lua? havent gotten to main menu yet. i dont have any mods or anything. im so confused. whats wrong, i load way more demanding games in way less time. wtf is happening?

i eventually forced closed it because it loaded, and i checked to make sure i had no mods, and it said it had an example mod so i disabled it and it just was stuck on the main menu not doing anything again, not reacting to anything. couldnt get the black screen to close by itself either, had to have steam do it
i really hope im not doing anything wrong, and i appreicate any help you can give.

Game does show some mods loading, in which case try going to “C:\Users\YourUserName\Zomboid” and delete everything there except the “Saves” folder
Then try starting again

Yes, they are not really necessary for the game to start
Unless you have something in those folders that you may need at the moment?
The important folder is the Save folder, you do not want to delete that I assume

is there a reason why any mod makes it have unreasonable load times?
i purposely tried to unsubscribe from all the mods from the workshop and uninstall and reinstall before coming to ask.

The logs would not provide such info, you can try asking in #mod_support though
