#(Resolved-Ish) 'Server is not Responding' Firewall Off, Ports FWDed

Hello!

I've followed two different guides with no luck so far. I know a few months ago I figured this out but I recently got bitten with the urge to play PZ again with a friend and bought them the game.

The ports are always closed/not externally pingable/not visible by external users. I'm fairly tech savvy and that's why I've been pulling my hair out trying to figure out what I'm missing.

  • Internal networked computers can access the PZ server all day long. Host computer via 127.0.0.1:16261 and My-Internal-IP:16261 from internal computers. When utilizing a hotspot on another computer or a VPN or my friends, the server is not visible/not responding via my external IP:16261 or 16262 with steam relay on or not. I've tried launching the game with -nosteam. With the server up and running, port checkers online also don't see those ports open. Ports are set to UDP only.

*I've tried alternate ports including the one Minecraft would use, and 60606/60607 in case maybe my ISP blocks the others.

*Added Steam UDP port as well

*Router is Nighthawk x6 R8000 with the ISP's modem in Bridge Mode

  • Installed and running the PZ Dedicated Server from steam but I open the bat file itself after verifying files from Steam - It says Successful, Listening on Ports, Steam Vats, etc. Appears to work fine internally from multiple devices. I've tried to run the Bat as admin and with -nosteam as well with no success.

  • Host computer's firewall and AV are entirely disabled to just take them out as variables for now despite them already having inbound port allowance rules for this too.

Gah. What am I missing?

My ISP changed my modem's default password and make you use an app now. I wonder if they took it out of bridge mode or some bogus BS. I'm asking th em what gives lol. I factory reset my modem and it still doesn't let me use the default admin/pass that's on the modem itself to access and says I have to contact my service provider for access. The heeeeeeeeeeck.

LORD.

Yes Please.

#

Not sure if related to all of this but I bet it isn't helping.

Otherwise, your ISP will likely be more helpful in this case, as this issue is usually just related to the ports not being open

Yeah. I kept over focusing on configs and how the install was setup but since it runs fine for all the comps on my network its probably just a port issue.

#

They just put my modem back in bridge mode so trying it now.

Okay running the dedicated server software itself. (I've also had the same problem just doing 'host game' with a fresh config and being inaccessible).

SAYS ITS UP. So checking. Lol on the Minecraft Port.

#

Turning on my VPN now (tho the VPN itself might not allow these things, it's going thru a Cisco Firewall in another state at a business lol)

#

Port Checkers still show both of those ports as closed even with the server running hmm.

The game uses the UDP port

#

Standard port checkers only check TCP port

#

So it will not show up

#

Best way to test it is by just connecting at the moment

Smart! 🙂 Okay I'll try that again. Yeah I have it only on UDP atm for sure. I think I knew that about the port checker thing but forgot lol. Just gotta get a VPN set up to check.

#

ahhhh

#

Such a beautiful sighht

#

now to see if it actually lets me connect lol then I'll worry about the actual server config side. I might reinstall it fresh since I've open/closed it in so many different ways lately

#

it was my ISP doing some garbage 'improvements' on my modem - Them putting it in bridge mode again seems to have resolved it. So far at least.

#

;_; Yay.

Thanks for the port checkers =/= UDP ports fact!

#

says getting server info indefinitely, lol. I think I'll follow the guide you suggested and reinstall fresh.

Going to try to just host a game. Me and my friend will only be pplaying when we're both online anyways. Just annoying for testing because steam hates seeing me logged in from two IPs lol
