(Please note that the world lore consists of the following, please refrain from RPing characters that are from other worlds, series, comics, etc... You may run a character inspired by such, within the constraints of the real world and server lore. If your character is saying that they are a demon or super-soldier, they will be assumed to be crazy or mentally challenged. )
The infection first started in July of 1993, thought to be a new flu at first and causing those infected to become bed-ridden or hospitalized. Within a week over half the population was sick, once people started dying however, it was clear this was no simple flu.
Knox county was one of the first places to attempt containment. They'd set up quarantine zones around the worst affected areas and attempted to contain as many cases as possible through quarantining and isolation techniques but by September there were too few left alive for them to even keep guards at the gates.
The world was dying, governments either fell completely or retreated to secret bunkers, the people turned on one another against the hordes of undead, trust was loss and with it humanity's greatest strength...
These days folks do what they can to survive, the fear is still there, but those left alive have adapted to it, some turning their homes into fortresses and holding out against any threat that comes near. There are those who are able will travel between settlements helping each other out when they need it most while others simply try to find somewhere safe where they won't get caught up in someone else's problems.
