I've created a dedicated server via installation from the Steam client on a server. I'm also running the Steam client on my PC. In my ini file for the server, I've configured a password via the "Password=" directive. Have tried several passwords, including very simple ones. When trying to connect to the server, I get "Wrong server password given."

The client does seem to connect to the server, and I'm seeing logs in the cmd window that the batch file opens up to that effect on the server side.

You're not accidentally putting the server password into the account password field when you join the server are you?

Correct; this is my first time connecting so I'm creating a new account in doing so, I believe. So the account password field is a new pw that isn't used anywhere else for anything else.
Since I've got "Open=true" and "AutoCreateUserInWhiteList=true"

If that matches with the one you put on "Password=", it should be correct. Not sure if it has something to do with the whitelist as I have never touched that setting.

Yeah, that matches - right now it's even an all numeric string, though I've tried some other simple passwords that were all letters, too.
No special characters or anything weird in the pw, very simple strings.

What happens if you leave it blank? Like for both in PZ and the "Password="

on the client side, right - the password is still set on the server side though, so not sure why that doesn't seem to be working.

Not sure if this will work - Maybe turn your server off, make changes to the password, and start it again.

I think I see what my issue might be here, hmm
looks like it wasn't reading the ini file under C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\common\Project Zomboid Dedicated Server\
but rather going for it under my home dir which was creating a default one with no pw set
