What if the devs added APM to calls to lua hooks? https://github.com/opentracing/opentracing-java We could then get a breakdown by hook and by mod for what's using CPU time

each call to a hook would be a new span for instance

this is also designed to run on performance sensitive production systems, so it should be low overhead
