Hotfix 41.23b released

  • Fixed brocolli & carrots seeds weighting 1.0.

We've updated the zoom branch with a couple fixes. If some of you could see if it's still chuggy for them and report back, that'd be ace <3
Among the fixes should be fixes for blurry text and UI textures as well as fixes for the colour changes on shorelines and vehicles while zoomed out.

To access the zoom branch, right click PZ in your Steam library, go to "Properties", navigate to the "Betas" tab, and enter the Steam beta password: fbosbegone2019.
Then select the zoom branch from the dropdown menu and let Steam do it's updatey thing.

We've created a new experimental branch on Steam to test some optimizations that should help low end PCs a lot.

The branch is called zombiefpstest

We'd love feedback on any FPS improvements around lots of zombies, like the mall or downtown areas.
We do not recommend using this on an existing savegame. If you do, back it up beforehand.

We've just updated the Zoom branch with some more fixes! Should be pretty stable now. Let us know!

Also, we've added in a new option (default on) 'Tiered Zombie Updates' which should ease the load of large hordes (particularly ones far away or not in LOS) on CPU. We're hoping both these together will help people in FPS in high stress situations. Tiered zombie update will severely cut down on a lot of zombie CPU usage, and therefore usually maintain a higher FPS and thus more player control, at the expense of smoothness of zombies at a distance.

Also a fix to strafing during combat that should stop people being rooted to the spot when swinging from stationary. Before you could only strafe during a swing if you were already strafing at the moment you click. Now you can start strafing during the swing which should help with combat mobility a lot. Also animation cancelling should be heavily nerfed.

In case you're wondering what the little update is going to be about, it's a fix for those suffering from a crash with the following error message in console:

DebugLogStream.printException> Stack trace: java.lang.RuntimeException: java.lang.IllegalStateException: couldn't find "C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\common\ProjectZomboid\media\lua\shared\ISBaseObject.lua"

There were other games affected as it was a Steam internal change.

This will not increase the version number. Still 41.31.

MP Status Update:

Issues with zombies responding to sounds sorted. MP team are still investigating the vehicle issues and we'll hopefully have a more solid estimate on them within the next couple of days. We'll make our decision regarding launch after another test and let everyone know.

We're super eager to get it out before Xmas for everyone including our own sake, but will only do so if we feel comfortable that all known issues are minor. That's not to say there won't be other bigger issues present with a wider testing base. This is first release after all.

That all said, trust us that there are many reasons a pre-xmas release would be preferable to us, so we'll fight for it, but not at the expense of buggering it all up.

Update: Vehicle issues sorted.
One other issue remains but it's likely a much easier fix. We're commencing a 32 player test this evening, and how well this goes will determine whether we'll be releasing soon or after xmas.

Test isn't over yet, after a good period of feeling confident and smooth running, it seems a few issues have presented themselves that brought the server to its knees w black boxing, a couple of players reported super low FPS while driving. We'll keep you all posted. A mixed bag.

We're discussing if it could be feasible to do a smaller player count co-op build pre-xmas. This would need some more thinking about and making sure all the issues we have had tonight are server load or ping related (testers are from all over world connecting to paris).

There are still avenues to explore, but it's very clear that to put out 32 player server MP in the next few days would be wildly irresponsible and silly of us. We'll look at what can be done but it's best to assume post Xmas to be sure.

The problem here always comes back to if we rush it out just because all our hopes were resting on it, it could end up biting us in the arse. Very strongly assume new year at this point, but we'll continue working and see what we can do.

A post-blog addendum:
While we've been working on the VHS one-time XP bug that's annoying on MP servers, it became clear that the fix will create disruption and require updates for mods that modify radio/TV elements (specifically mods that use the OnDeviceText event and/or modify ISRadioInteractions.lua).
As such, while annoying, it seems wise to make 41.69 a bigger patch as opposed to the originally intended small quick-fix-build mentioned in the blog.
41.69 is being prepared and will spend some time in the unstable beta branch for required mod fixes, once it is released.
We have a lot of QOL and balance changes somewhat logjammed at the moment, so hopefully we can get it all in and tested - so it shouldn't be too long a wait before 41.69 gets released into unstable.
