The Quick and Dirty Guide to Pettan Battle
1. How does Pettan Work?
In a nutshell you have 3 variables you need to account for:
-
Unit Typing
-
Unit Rarity
-
Unit Power Level
Each one of these affects how much the enemy bar is affected. The enemy bar itself represents not only the enemy HP, but also the timer in which the battle will finish. The lower it is, the faster the battle will end.
2. How do battles work?
Essentially you just need to drain the enemy's bar to 0 to win. However, as we mentioned in point 1, the 3 variables affect how fast this happens. Aside from special circumstances, the following rules generally apply for a win:
Your team's total power level is higher than the enemy's power level
The enemy's bar has decreased by at least 1
The 2 points above will usually ensure a win, with a few things affecting it:
-
Typing advantage/disadvantage - If one or more of your units are type disadvantaged it can lead to a loss even with the conditions above.
-
Unit rarity - If your units are of lower rarity than the enemy, it can also lead to a loss even with the conditions above.
-
Unit Type - If your units are opposite or same typing (Super/Extreme) as the enemy, it can affect the outcome of the battle (although this can go both ways, if you have higher rarity than the enemy then it will benefit you, if you have lower rarity than the enemy then it will hurt you.)
There's 1 special rule about setting up your team for a fight (which is pretty important and isn't really stated anywhere) and that's the amount of units you have on the team going into a fight.
Generally if you have a unit that has slightly higher power level than your opponent and you put him in a 1v1, you'll notice that the enemy's bar won't move. However if you suddenly put 2 units with the same slightly higher power level than the opponent, the bar will most likely decrease by 1 (following the 2 rules above.)
In contrast, if your unit has a much higher rarity and power level vs the opponents, the bar will obviously decrease. My observations on this (still following the 2 rules above) is that:
- Having more units on a team to fight an opponent increases the chances of winning.
- There's a higher "threshold" for reducing the first tick of the enemy bar meaning that to get the first tick to drop requires more "effort" in terms of card power level, rarity, and number of units on the team.
One last note to touch on are the units with "unit combos." Although these do help out, it's not something you should go out of your way for; instead, just focus on the points below to maximize your Pettan Battle experience.
- What's the best way to finish the collection sets?
It all comes down to RNG at the end of the day of course, but here are a few tips to give yourself the best chance to finish the set collections as fast as possible.
For veterans with a lot of Pettan cards:
-
At the start of a new season with/or an unfinished collection, make sure that you focus on fighting enemies and getting their bar down to 1 tick to ensure the fastest timers. Usually this ranges from 45 mins to 1.5hr timers depending on how much discrepancy there is in power level.
-
When you try to get down to 1 tick of the enemy bar, make sure you make it as close as possible. What I mean by this is don't overshoot and put a bunch of LR rarity cards to get the bar down to 1, that's a waste of cards. Instead put maybe 1 high value card first, then put a bunch of lower value cards on the team and try to make it so that the last card you add to the team just barely makes it 1 tick left. This way you maximize the value of the cards by mix and matching higher value and lower value cards, and you don't "overkill" the enemy by wasting a bunch of higher value cards you can use elsewhere.
