Would your parents let you buy a long ethernet cable? It shouldn't be too expensive...
No matter the distance, there's always a lengthy ethernet cable that you could use so you don't have to steal the router to your room.

Yeah that's what I'm thinking. And if they were worried about the cord, there are options to run the cord through the wall, or if that isn't an option, you can get cable holders that can be nailed to your wall in inconspicuous places. I've done it in multiple houses, and there are really clever ways to hide cabling if you keep it neat.
