I’ve tried at least 47 different MMOs, and all I’m looking for is compelling quests or at least fun classes. While I give some that they have fun classes, barely any MMOs have compelling quests or engaging gameplay.

What I’m exactly looking for doesn’t 100% exist but I'm looking for a MMORPG with good and unique zone design, compelling quests, variety of unique and interesting classes/builds, open-world, 3D, action or tab-targeted as long as the combat in more compelling than WoW’s, Little bit of challenge in each encounter, not very grindy, decent solo content, in-depth fishing, good story(Doesn’t have to be as linear as FF14), Smaller group content(8-10), engaging boss mechanics, more theme park then sandbox but I would like a mix of the two, western style fantasy, third person or first-person, F2P, and PVE-focused.

Like I said, an MMORPG with all those simply does not exist, but with at least four or three of them would be nice.

MMOs I’m thinking about trying but haven’t fully decided on due the effort of playing them:

Ragnarok Online 2, Phantasy Star Online 2, Lost Ark, Final Fantasy 14, Runescape 3, Final Fantasy 11, Star Wars Galaxies, SWTOR, Allods Online, Wizard 101, LOTRO, and Blade And Soul.

I've Tried ESO, WoW and private servers, Everquest and private servers, Vanguard, AQ3D, Everquest II, Rift, Trove, Ultima Online and private servers, Taern, Eldevin, Oldschool Runescape, Nodiatis, Meridian 59, Neverwinter Nights Sigil: Planar Legend Server, LOTRO, DDO, Mist Legacy, The Realm Online, Neverwinter, Tabia, Fantasy Realm Online, AQW and private servers, Phobos, Villagers and Heroes, Neocron, Wildstar, Secret World Legends, Planeshift, City Of Heroes(Homecoming and Thunderspy), Runes Of Magic, Otherland, Guild Wars 2, Acheron’s Call, Project Gorgon, Villagers and Heroes, Fallen Earth, Fantastic Frontier(And other Roblox MMOs), Warframe, and POE.

If you want a more detailed explanation on my thoughts on specific MMORPGs here, I’m not putting it into the main post because I know no one cares: https://docs.google.com/document/d/1J4Ggn_HzLjNBc6UatAR_ebi9OzeRqFVUs4DgHAadix0/edit?usp=sharing

From the description I'd definitely say that Guild Wars 2 hit the mark pretty well maybe minus finishing the side quests for each section of the map, the main story questline is much better than grinding map finish. Did you delve at least a little into the expansions? Path of Fire was one of the ones that really pulled me into the game. I did not play the 2 latest ones but I have heard good things about them

Guild wars 1 for sure !!!!! Very story focused game with a ton of classes and builds. Fits everything in your extended list with the exception of

  • not open world
  • no fishing
  • unsure about boss mechanics
  • no sandbox elements
  • buy to play

Really scraping the bottom of the barrel here but Vindictus has fun classes and I thought the quests were surprisingly OK for a lobby based mmolite action game. It deserves a special mention for being possibly the only mmo where || it's somewhat explained how there can be multiple protagonists all at different parts of the story running around in the same world||

That said it fits barely any of your extended requirements. At least it has fleshed out fishing

Wynncraft (vanilla minecraft MMORPG server) I wouldn't mention if you haven't played seemingly everything else already. The class choice is absolutely atrocious, there's little customization and the combat might just put you to sleep, but damn if the quests aren't really well done. Most of them have unique mechanics and even cutscenes!
