How about survivors have to take a vaccine before entering the survivor block to prevent infection incase they get infection through air and/or water transmissions. As we see, not all survivors are bitten and are still infected with guards wearing gas masks. Since we have to eliminate people with the virus that means there is no cure, but a vaccine prevents the virus from taking over the uninfected. Direct contact with a bite though should still be deadly if say there was such a large concentration of virus in the blood and saliva that it would inevitably overwhelm the immune system anyways. (I have zero expectation this idea will actually succeed I'm just throwing it out there)
