#Wtf are drones?
1 messages · Page 1 of 1 (latest)
Drones are the result of corporate wars, it was cheaper to manufacture small ships that have the only purpose of "yeah, this company is cutting our supply chain, send 15 Medusa to ram their ships and then miners to clear the wrecks, in case of resistance send more drones", after the corpo wars ended up, it was cheaper to let them loss than rather dismantle all of them, companies made them cheap and with all the time that passed after the corpo wars, drones no longer care about what ship to ram or what ship to shot.
Having a the black box of something flying for so so long, has its own value in "research" (drops research disk) money is more of a player thing to make us want to kill it, parts are obvious, a gun drop just so you can add to your ship or sell and then random stuff to make.
Yeah that's how I understood it as well, Drones were made by the Syndicate and Nanotrasen en masse to fling at each other
Following the war, the vibe is basically like how we still find dud shells/bombs from WW1/WW2
The drones at Colossus, might be influenced by the Monolith. They also played a fairly large part in the destruction of the USSP withdrawal fleet
So yeah, drones are pretty relevant in the lore
I think they’re like mines and the colossus sector is space Bosnia
Yes.
You be flying and boom.
3 maulers
and by god I'm doing my balkan blooded birthright by making a profit in demining and selling them
(and exploding for I do not have the proper training or equipment)
The more true to ilya lore version is the drones are automated mining vessels. Their weapons are adapted from advanced mining technology. The exact origins of the drones are uncertain, but it is rumored/known that there are motherships in deeper space that produce these drones. Some time down the line, the motherships made for mining had gone rogue, and thus started to create the drone fields around the sector we know.
this is what ive always told people who inquired about drones - ancient automated workforce poisoned by a virus or error by unknown entity or corrupted by Monolith itself, with purpose of eliminating any signature with a non-automated interface
obviously, not all of these ships were designed for combat, and the myths of larger amalgamations in outer reaches of space hint at slow at chaotic and unholy mechanical unions...
black boxes of these drones contain some spare advanced parts and devices, universal currency for automated station side repairs (pre-fracture industrial arrangements), as well as bulk of navigational, gravimetric and astronomic information that can be interpreted by research servers to yield useful data
the blackboxes aren't really supposed to make lore sense
it's a stand-in for scuttling the drone
the direct credits should probably be replaced by a databank or something
they just weren't made to be stable and weren't watched long enough for the motherships to interpret their directives a little too freely
initially various utility-purpose drones used for tasks like mining or even defense
due to incidents of various control ships being destroyed, some drones went out of control, including automated drone motherships intended for long-range mining missionsdrone cores have limited problem-solving ability and motherships have the capability to build/repair drones, which eventually leads motherships to find out that deploying attack drones onto other miners tends to increase the amount of available ore
rammer drones exist because the mothership found out that they take less ore to deploy than they free updrones of moderate or higher size are often malformed due to the limited problem-solving capabilities of the cores
the drone guns are repurposed mining mass drivers intentionally made to not require much computing power
and FR1 drones are monolith-infected
and/or the monolith just trying to make copies of drones
the mothership is a thing that's planned Eventually™
and i want drones that eat up ore in front of you
methinks it does make sense as a telemetry log lol
recorded history of the drone sent to mothership for monitoring
when you take the blackbox, mothership forgets the drone and considers it dead
thats the point of a blackbox sir
the drones we see ingame are all modified by motherships
important to note that the monolith (NOT a physical object btw, its the zone the sector resides inside of) is very capable of making what could have previously been mostly or entirely non-hostile devices more volatile. Its all open ended specifically to make your own theories
This remind me that, I have never read the lore of this universe, I am krilling my shelf
Tldr
Colossus is inside of a larger region known as the monolith
The monolith is a part of space that was once completely unchartable in a way due to the constant harassment from ADS and a lack of incentive to do so
Once the old corporations died out the syndicate fled there in hiding and the local societies used their remains (old tech etc) to explore the monoliths potential uses and reinforce themselves outside of TSF or USSP grasp etc. These are primarily known as the PDV.
TSF is largely unaware of what the monoliths value is and whatever PDV may even know isnt built upon either
All we know for certain is larger groups like fleets are ineffective because the ADS seek out bigger targets
Forcing the TSF to use smaller tactics to take colossus from PDV
Also the monolith is capable of space time manipulation (lore hole glue)
Whatever changes made to the lore since this is unknown to me so i suggest reading it anyways
Bermuda triangle of spess
we want to push that the monolith somewhat replicates things in it
so the T1 drones are its replication of drones
and it produces hostile mobs because it sees combat in the sector
so theoretically it is capable of 'learning'
mirroring rather
either or
yes
kingdom hearts type shi
so its a........ indescribable cosmic horror that tortures people with grotesque creatures...... does it have layers to it...?
I am thinking, The Brain Scorcher from the Stalker game, or the "Abyss" of Into the Abyss.
hell from ultrakill
AI sees combat each rendition, thinks "Wow they must really like combat because they do it so much, let me create stuff that causes more combat"
Repeat
Interesting
"Yeah, so i saw that you made this thing, did you call it a pipe bomb?, yes, and it goes in the mail? Interesting..."
