Appearance
Hydrakin are 5-7ft densely feathered, predominantly Grey avians with a protogen-like head and a hidden mouth. Their eyes are not visible, and how the hydrakin even see in the first place is still a mystery, as they dont use echolocation, nor do they visibly use magic, or have any obvious organs for eyesight. Their legs are thick, typically twice the width of the average spaceman's thigh, if not bigger.
Their waist is thin, unusually so. But not so thin that their organs do not fit right. Their arms take up a similar form to that of the native vox, yet do not come close internally beyond bone structure. When open, their tongues are forked, and their mouths are wide and hollow, lacking proper teeth, and instead having a beak-like serrated lining for tearing meat, implying a carnivorous diet. They do not come in definite forms, instead having a multitude of tails, ears and "eye" mark varieties, leading to castes being formed between each variation. Whether or not the hydrakin are one unified "species" or a multitude of subspecies masquerading as a single one is left to the mind, as despite every variant having different, often wildly new features, they are all the same genetically, with minimal changes to genetic structure.

Societal
Hydrakin typically form up tribes of around 30-60 whenever possible in subterranean colonies below the ice surface of their world. 3-6 "Alpha" birds are then chosen to direct the colony, typically those with the tallest height, sharpest claws, or biggest tail or ears to flaunt, typically to signify their leadership. The leadership is then given special snow bodypaints, which imprints onto them in a different color. The following rest of the tribals decorate themselves according to the leader they prefer to follow in similar markings, yet always work together even if theres internal opposition, and try to balance out how many are under each leader's wing. One leader manages internal affairs and comfort in the tribe, expanding like a city manager. Another manages outside activities, like hunting and foraging. The third addresses aggression and warfare, training am army for the tribe to stay safe from intruders. Authority may be shared across leaders at any moment, and underperforming leaders tend to assimilate back into the lower ranks quickly to allow the more competent to take over sooner.

Origins
There is heavy speculation on what or where hydrakin came from. Some theorize the Asakim empire had something to do with them, others think they were some sort of Syndicate experiment for an expendable workforce of dummies that Interdyne can use to experiment on without repercussions. Some theorize Ullman didn't actually discover them, but rather made them, and then modified them for "Their purposes".
-# (Of which, said claims are false, and automatically redirected to the incinerator below the "Customer Service Complaints" box. Hydrakin are simply utilized as expendable labor and nothing else. -U.I.)
They might have been a space time anomaly, or the product of a million years of evolution working in perfect unison with the cold environment. One thing's for sure though, nobody seems able to determine the real cause of the hydrakin's existence

U.I. Experimentation, and the info gathered.
Within captivity, about 2,800 hydrakin were kept, bred and taught how to speak andromeda and perform basic activities. Hydrakin retain human level intellect and can figure things out about as well as one can. While in the wild, Hydrakin attempt to form multiple castes in one tribe. In captivity, they all try to survive individually instead, choosing to focus on the self over the greater whole. Hydrakin can oddly breathe any gas without harm, often benefiting from toxins that would kill a normal human. Sarin gas doesnt even do anything to them, Mustard and Chlorine cure diseases in their system or fix lung damage, ash and soot just act like capsacin to them, so on and so forth. Hydrakin are VERY receptive to heat, living in cold environments for their entire life. They react strongly to heat, preferring to avoid it as their cold adapted feathers leave them vulnerable like walking kindlings to a firepit. Internally, they start to break down until their heart struggles to function and their breathing begins to become erratic, while the cool helium blood mix starts to disassemble and turn into base helium, which then begins to very quickly kill and crush the hydrakin from the inside, leaving gruesome wounds similar to that of deaths caused by pressure changes or nitrogen boiling in the blood.

Language
Hydrakin language is both unknown to the wider sector, and damn near impossible to translate. Using a mix of avian bird calls, trills, chirps and warbles, the meaning of one word can instantly turn into the meaning of a dozen others, creating a dizzying, complex language so difficult to map that most of the U.I. Translators preferred the loaded smartgun next to the desk being applied to their head over being forced to decipher and create a hydrakin language model. Even though basic calls have been deciphered, like ones for mating or announcing something, discovering what they are saying beyond that is physically impossible to decode.

This is my suggestion

There is no known explanation for why they can be found on different planets but now for the creatures themselves
(To be honest I don't know all of the biological features)
Among other things their culture is a rather unique one among other species
They gather around hot spas
Which are formed by underground plasma vents

And using this they have created extremely rudimentary geothermal powered devices

Such as a grinder and juicer for medicinal purposes
And ice saws to create improved ice tools

But even with all of these in advancements in their science they still remain in the tribal stage of civilization thanks to their over dependence on hunting and geothermal vents

Many of the tribes across ice worlds have differing levels of technological advancements
Some barter some invent
And some pillage for theses geological hot spots

#

Hydrakin a avian two legged humanoid that mainly originates from the far reaches of fringe space
And within theses various sectors you can find ice planets in which they will reside
All of these planets have somewhat differing species of hydrakin
(The reason why I'm bringing up different planets is so I can properly explain markings)

What are hydrakin naming conventions, if they exist?

I'm just kind of sad that no one even mentioned or even noticed my lore suggestion 😕

To prepare hydrakin, choose a method, pat it dry, bring to room temp, and cook quickly over medium-high heat (cooking range/cauldron), using a bit of fat and a thermometer, resting before serving to keep it tender and juicy. Pounding cutlets with hammer and breading them creates a delicious crispy texture.
