#Nintendo Music app

if OoT was so good why isn't there anothe-
ok so seems like this is based on the NA soundtrack release
based on the fact it has less tracks than OoT 64 lol
well i guess there's still hope for wwhd then
lol
if they're going to add oot 3d
as a completely separate release
we got ocarina of time twice before one majora's mask
ok wait no it's a little different
somehow it still has the same amount of tracks but they split up the ocarina tracks and removed an equal amount of other songs
idk at least some song was removed
Weird addition
ok looks like the difference between this and the other is removing "Ocarina Songs" but adding Windmill Hut
If this means I finally get an extendable version of the Ocarina of Time title theme, I'll take it
wait no it's still here
for whatever reason they swapped places
so yep, it's just completely identical to the promo CD they released in NA
HOLY SHIT OoT3D PEAK????
Not bc of it itself the music is nearly identical but like 1% better but REMAKES ARE BACK ON THE TABLE BABYYYY
oh yeah it's pretty funny how End Credits 2 is like
the only staff credits song with a thumbnail that actually credits the staff
even if it's just the producers who technically aren't like
as directly involved in making the game as the rest of the staff
also its hard to tell for WWHD still tbh
because that one only got like
a really small soundtrack selection
it only had 50 songs
i do need to check if MM3D changed any of the songs because otherwise there's a chance they decide to release MM3D as covering both itself and the original
It absolutely did
Everybody loves to talk about how they slashed the heavy reverb of the original for the remake
Astral Observatory being a favorite example
damn chronically online people strike again
Well tbf that one song does sound noticeably worse in 3D
What about Star Fox 64 3D? I'm assuming the music is different from the original in that remake also?
I guess because the soundtrack did differ ever so slightly, and it wasnāt just new song additions, did they feel the need to add the remake huh
well mostly it's just because they already made the soundtrack years ago
and because of that it's missing a few songs
Remind me, is the Fire Temple's music completely different?
somehow it's only now that I realize the mini dungeon theme from wind water is basically the same song as the one used for the deku tree dungeon in oot
giant breadbug theme on loop for hours on end

We now got our Summer playlist
all of them are beach tracks
except for one Fire Emblem Engage track which is desert
and an Animal Crossing track for the Fireworks Festival
Interesting to note how this playlist doesn't have MK8's DS Cheep Cheep Beach or MK7's N64 Koopa Beach
A lot of the official playlists feels lacking in general
The Boss Battles one is pretty bad in that it only had like one song per game
Which is egregious when you consider just how many games have multiple boss themes
I took matters into my own hands
Final battles playlist uses koraidon and miradon theme instead of the lab battle theme
Iām sorry but compared to the fight before that itās lame af
The battle against ||the professor|| is better in every way
Oh this is a good playlist I like this
YESSS KIRBY ON THE THUMBNAI- wait Misteenās Ocean isnāt summer enough? Actually 1984 I need my fav Ishikawa music
Reef Resort is there
Nintendo Switch Onlineå å

Actually huh somehow my list wasnāt showing 50+ song earlier
It was only showing 30 ish songs even tho the run time was 2+ hours long
When I updated it, it showed everything
Let them know weāre happy, Reef Resort, Orange Ocean, abandoned beach, Misteenās Oceans
Yeah sounds about right on summer theme
Big fan of this app so far tbh
I hate the update cycle but considering it's basically free since I'm paying for the service for other reasons? No complaints
Wish I could change the color of the app while I'm inside it
A nice navy would make me happy
imagine getting extra themes for the nintendo music app before the switch 1 or 2
That would be hysterical
I feel the same way. I find the music app to be a pretty nice bonus for the Switch Online. I wanted an 'official' way to listen to Nintendo music for years. And all the issues I do have with the app aren't huge.
Exactly
I know it's not anything up to snuff with other music services but I also don't need it to be? If it was I wouldn't be using it in the same way?
It plays game music, and we get (mostly) consistent updates. That's all I really need it to do.
The themed playlists and the 'Extend To...' features I consider nice bonuses
nintendo music is good when you realize the service is called Nintendo Switch Online
anything that isnāt switch related is a neat bonus!
of course it isnāt perfect but, they didnāt have to do this
Unfortunately that's not quite that simple because they did go on a YouTube witch hunt
If it was just additive content then maybe, but they actively tried to erase the competition
So people like to say that NM needs to equal or exceed YouTube in quality, like the emulation debate
Nintendo Premium and Nintendo Premium Gold for the deluxe subscription
Me personally I think that's not fair
I mean⦠itās not like that was a new thing
The degree to which it was kind of was though
2022 and 2023 saw some pretty big hits
It's clear Nintendo wants this to be the definitive music listening experience, regardless of how good they've done at pushing that specific goal
Theyāll get there in like 2035 at this rate lmao
People in 2035 making video essays about Nintendo Music like
Idk. The youtube thing is definitely a problem but itās not something they can truly extinguish forever
Why would they not when several of those soundtracks have actual, physical retail releases?
Not to say they weren't doing it beforehand, mind, but it's the sort of thing that I feel is inevitable when you have plans to offer these soundtracks in some form to others
Nintendo Music simply adds another reason for them to hunt down reuploads
Though I feel that certain franchises and games are hit by it more than most
Smash Bros. soundtracks seem like the ones that get hit the hardest
Mostly those that received physical soundtrack releases, particularly NIPPON COLUMBIA releases which have more or less been the majority of Nintendo soundtrack releases that aren't Intelligent Systems or Monolithsoft
I can't quite understand your tone so I'm sorry if I'm misreading, but I am in agreement with you on this
Nintendo Music isn't just a bonus, it's a replacement
For non-Nintendo controlled uploads of their music
It's not a very good one, nor are they stamping out other uploads at all basically, but that's definitely how they would see it
I never really treated it as a "bonus"
Because they tried to do so and made such a small impact they gave up
As for treating it as a replacement... I would probably see it from the other angle instead
See it for the service that it provides, not the one it tries to usurp
As for the impact of stamping out non-official uploads...
I would dare say that is in part the tenacity of the collective community
They've been fighting the fight for years
and the amount of people who hear about this stuff and maybe also then start to contribute themselves - especially in the wake of notable channels that get nuked for it - only grows with time
I do feel like some games are much bigger targets overall
Particularly anything involving IntSys
And I feel like ban waves happen in particular when they gear up to release a soundtrack for a physical release
rare as they may be
Smash is a trickier case, but I imagine the swaths of copyright they have to deal with just getting the songs to appear in the franchise is why the big N chooses to strike them hard
but idk, I'm rambling in the morning and need to sleep
can't say I'm fully aware, but my two cents are on the table for you
It would probably take a lot of time and resources they don't have to make a definitive library at launch, that's just simply not possible
I've noticed that the songs they add often fit in at least one of three categories
it's a switch game or NSO game and they're cross promoting it (Mario Wonder, Pikmin 4)
it's a soundtrack they already made before (SMG, OoT3D) so the don't put effort into including missing songs from it
none of the above for some reason but is developed in-house so they kept the songs in their archives (nintendogs, brain age)
often it's first two above anything else
so I think Smash is only getting added to Nintendo Music after it gets added to Nintendo Classics first
There are also way too many licenses and IPs for later entries
and too many composers
... not to mention, the sheer amount of songs in Ultimate alone numbers over 1100
Smash 64 and Melee were developed by HAL and only have Nintendo IPs
Those two, in theory, would be the most plausible
gonna be busy tomorrow so gonna call it now before i forget
donkey kong (nes) or donkey kong conutry returns
Tropical freeze or 94
Ice Climber
Fools. It's clearly gonna be Hey! Pikmin
I just refuse to believe Nintendo are that smart to actually release anything in Nintendo Music to coincide with their own game release schedule
TTYD tonight
I don't really feel like there's ever been a time they've saved a game to tie into an upcoming release
at most, TotK being saved for Switch 2 Edition's release
so I'm just going to go with Super Metroid
Pikmin
if Nintendo was based they would release KSS without the obligation of needing to release FL in full before then
Iām going to keep saying Pikmin until we get Pikmin
uhhhh Mario Paint
House of Metroid
The closest is this guy but he's not a mouse or rat but more a guinea pig
But I don't think there are any other rodents
Fuck ass thing
Thereās a very low amount of mammals in Pikmin
Amprat and the dogs and I donāt think thereās any more
A few amphibians
And sometimes fish
Type null ass legs
type null having bearded amprat ass legs
Shaggy Long Legs is a mammal and I'm tryna get that milk
Found myself whistling Bountiful Star today in the shower so
My prediction goes to Robobot
Or lowkey DL3
2.5 hours
dream course day
wow i can't believe instead of a donkey kong game they're doing arms instead
the most Nintendo move ever
donkey kong 64 to coincide with the release of donkey kong 64 on nso
2 minutes
so based???
we're getting a donkey kong game the week drag x drive releases
the game yet again has the "Go here for information on this game" store page notice
Nintendo has forgotten the Nintendo Switch I
why are all the raceways separate
thats what they've done for MK8 and MK7
where they just
repeat the songs if they belong to courses with different names
i assume the idea is for the sake that the playlists aren't uneven and they can distribute them among the characters that they belong to but
imagine if they did this with SMK and repeated Mario Circuit like 4 times
Insanity simulator
music to lose star cup 150cc to
the back-to-back mario raceway and wario stadium š
Does the results screen have the Easter egg?
oh peak actually
they are going to add all mario kart games before world
even the arcade ones

The Results screen is the extended version
Thatās cool!
Glad to see that they kept it
Unlike the Totakaās Songs of other games
just got to that LOL
the put the same song 4 times
lmao really??
Three repeats of Luigi Raceway, one repeat of Frappe Snowland, and one repeat of Moo Moo Farm
Lmao
thanks nintendo
Amazing
true LOL
I like mk64 ost so Iām good
Actually wait like is weak word for my opinion
I love it
True itās amazing
Mario 64 circuit is the song I think of when I think of Mario kart
It was never supposed to be in the first place
it was a bug that causes the second half to not play where it should have been
how you hear it in the album and here is actually how it's supposed to sound - two loops of each verse
I do wonder...
Did they do this to pad out the length?
Or are they gearing up to make playlists out of the Mario Kart cups?
Someone may have also just been gung-ho to make sure every circuit was screenshot in this album, lol
its mostly for the sake of playlists i feel
especially since they're assigned to characters
That's what I was thinking, yeah
WHOEVER SCREENSHOT RAINBOW ROAD KNOWS THE TRICKS, LMAO
11 SECONDS AT THIS SECTION AND SO FAR AHEAD
there was only one possible way they could have done that
also helpfully disguises how PAINFULLY LONG this course really is to those who don't know
Lmfao
Though in the original game, the new section happened after the 64th loop of the original section
Which feels like too much of a coincidence to be a bug
Ultimately, it was a bug, though. Apparently something in the game's code is what causes the error for the first section to loop 64 times before playing the second
And the thing is, who would sit on that screen for a whole hour, burning in their CRTs just to listen to a second verse? You would only do that if you knew it was a thing
How would you even track the loops?
I only say this because of the insane 11/8 time signature, lmao
I can't wait for Wonder's Mario maker edit themes
Listening to the summer playlist and realizing I don't know the water theme at all
I still hear the among drip theme in the shrines of light
Honestly Wonder in Mario Maker 3 feels unlikely to me
It has so many fun pieces I would be quite sad if it wasn't
I think they'd go for one of the Mario Lands or another adapted 3D game first
Oh and SMB2 obviously
Still higher odds than Yoshi's Island imo
They have all the wonder assets already running on switch, all the music and tile sets and semisolids and enemy behaviors
mario land before wonder is crazy
It's not like it's impossible to get anything retro but it does save them a lot of work to just go with Wonder I'd imagine
Also wonder like. Would sell a lot of Mario maker 3 copies
yeah
People would want that
super mario land is not the big draw mario maker 3 needs lol
Mouse controls
House of Mouse controls
Ghost House of Mouse controls
Help me
I know this is more a Mario thread discussion but lol. DK
This conversation cannot exist right now in that thread
I wonder if the wonder edit themes would have elephant variations
I think that would be cute
šØļø
welll we don't have yoshi variants of the smw or nsmbu edit themes either since you can't really be on yoshi while editing
i mean you can technically put on powerups while editing but yea i doubt it
I love scaredy rats
Fair š
also i associate the nsmbw look so much with rom hacks now that this looks fake to me
That's so real actually lmfao?
The life counter and coin count especially
Most wanted enemy in maker 3 from wonder...
I lowkey fw the armads
Also the bluebirds
shit that's hard
Then buy a laxative
Bro is tabbed into mariowiki
If I'm being so fr the thing I want most from wonder is upside-down semjsolids
One way gates are so ugly
fuck u
I know you're a man of integrity you're giving the question a fair shot
narrowed it down to skedaddler, blewbird, outmaway, baboom, shoomp
shoomp can be discarded depending on how much you can do with slopes
Fuck shoomp
YEAH. Fuck shoomp
What's baboom again
Is that the fireworks
Baboom and outmaway are extremely goated picks
Outmaway might just be the best though
Super insane puzzle and gimmick application
You could put those guys in a calculator or a computer.
TTYD tonight
surely if I keep guessing super metroid it eventually happens
just gonna say i guessed it first
but anyways sticking with dk for one more week
so donkey kong nes or dkcr
kirby game, trust
presents tomorrow, so pokƩmon
jamboree TV this thursday, so mario party
bananza was last week, so donkey kong
so clearly it will be mother 3
oh shit it's a lot of games
they added a billion nes games what the fuck
INCLUDING DONKEY KONG BAYBEEEEE
@low thicket they fucking did it.
26 is a lot
Full list of games they added today (all NES):
Donkey Kong
Donkey Kong Jr.
Gomoku Narabe Renju
Mah-Jong
Mario Bros.
Baseball
Donkey Kong Jr. Math
Tennis
Pinball
Wild Gunman
Duck Hunt
Golf
Hogan's Alley
Donkey Kong 3
Devil World
F1 Race
Urban Champion
Clu Clu Land
Excitebike
Balloon Fight
Ice Climber
Soccer
Wrecking Crew
Stack-Up
Gyromite
Mach Rider
well
i guess this solves the dilemma of getting 1 nes game per week for the less popular ones
i mean dk isn't even unpopular i guess but a lot of the other random ones
i wonder how much of the first party nes lineup is even left now
tbf this is all on the older end
kirby's adventure sticks out as one that's remaining
also Joy Mech Fight
Duck Hunt
Aka reliving childhood trauma /silly
There's also Zelda II - The Adventure of Link that's still not on the NES list
all these are like three tracks max tbf
It's all the black box games, basically
holy shit donkey kong jr math has a soundtrack?
Fire Emblem games, Punch-Out!!, Yoshi, Wario's Woods, NES Open Tournament Golf, etc.
basically there's still a bit
honestly it's a good update
they did what they should have done
all those games are out of the way
now do the same for bunch of Game Boy games
it's basically bigger games that are left for the most part
wonder if theyāll do this with game boy games at some point
anyway
they really wanna celebrate the famicom I suppose
@civic stag holy SHIT bro you won't BELIEVE what they added
WHAT THE FUCK????
Probably not because it's more inconsistent
Wait this is actually kind of lit as hell??????
how many songs they have
alright time to listen to each of the Donkey Kong Round BGMs for 1 hour
they didn't put the FDS version of Ice Climber
(it is a bit different!)
All Nintendo Music HQ ~ Vol. 24- Ice Climber (FDS Version)
JAP : November 18th 1988
USA : N/A
EUA : N/A
Composer : Akito Nakatsuka
by Nintendo R&D2
& Nintendo SRD
on Famicom Disk System
Listen carefully
yeah I guess they're saving Disk System games for some other time
I think it feels like they wanted to prioritize the early titles than the later ones
so I assume they'll release those all at once as well
Soundtracks from 26 NES classics, including Donkey Kong, Ice Climber, and Duck Hunt are available now on the #NintendoMusic app!
The songs are retro, but their time is now!
Listen here: https://t.co/d0cSD2eb6J
the songs are WHAT
oh yeah these are also the first time we've gotten music from games on a console that is available on NSO but not added onto there I think
Okay wow, didn't expect this
which is mostly because of how impossible to emulate the ROB and Light Gun series games are but lol
just make a virtual ROB smh
Duck Hunt with a literal minute of music lmfao
Kinda cute how they made a mini trailer for this update
also pretty sure there's some way they could do the light gun stuff
like touch screen
this is really good actually
there's a timeline where they spent 26 weeks adding every single one of these soundtracks individually
good thing we're in the dk bananza timeline
me adding the top tracks and all tracks playlists from pinball to my downloads
now i can finally listen to the 5 notes of 25m aka "Round 1 BGM" on loop
much better than listening to dk spaceport or whatever
i hope we get earthbound beginnings that's probably the (nintendo published) nes game i feel has the best music
I donāt even have a joke for this one
it's not impossible
They did it on Wii U for the Zapper games
and ROB... well
I meant in regards to NSO
he hates kirby's adventure get his ass.
Even I bothered to offer some kind of Virtual ROB
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ESSwJM1uLLc
I worked my ass off for this one
IT'S GOOD BUT I DO THINK MOTHER HAS THE BETTER OST ....
not even orange oceanā¦
Who even cares about that striped shirt wearing dweeb.
Where are my real Kirby adventures
Real talk Kirbyās adventure is probably the only NES soundtrack Iād ever actually listen to casually
https://youtu.be/tNas-iTKttU My 4 hour disorganized Kirby's Adventure playlist
Kirby's Adventure (NES) Music - Crane Fever Part 2 Download all my NES Soundtracks as MP3 here
http://www.nes-snes-sprites.com/
absolutely fucking not hop off ando
bro is a #2. an honorable position.
And then third place clearly goes to. Well shit wait most other nes games just have one maybe two good songs
It might have to be Dr. Mario gang.
mega man 4
This is true but specifically nintendo published stuff
true! mega man 6
Otherwise i'd say ducktales demolishes both mother and kirby's adventure i have to be real
Itās like
Idk Mario 3
Punch out???
Oh right it would be one of the marios true
I'm more a fan of mario 2's music but that might be a hot take
Punch out has like 2 songs but they are good songs
https://youtu.be/nfPm9LsEbZY Waaaaaaiiiittt this goes kind of foolish actually
Donkey Kong Arcade Music - 25m BGM (Full Version)
Beyond Nintendo though yeah one of the mega manās would be my pick
I'd say pictionary or the silver surfer game because tim follin is an inhuman deity at the nes soundchip
But neither have that many songs definitely not as many as the mega mans
Actually decent picks too

This quirky...
This one might be my favorite but that's partially because this is the funniest box art i've ever seen in my life
Game I have never heard of in my life
mario 3 has the world map themes which lowkey carry in terms of atmosphere and also just OST bulk. smb2 has good songs but way less
Yeah this i agree with i think smb2 has higher highs but lower lows
Depends if you want an ost with like 6 songs that are great vs an ost with a million songs that are good
I wonder if they'll be making an 'NES Selects' playlist after this update.
Yeah, most NES songs aren't even a minute long but given the volume of games that system has now I can see them giving it a shot
26 GAMES!
ON THE ONE DAY I GO TO SLEEP EARLY.
WE GET ICE CLIMBER
Not helped by how I do not have Switch Online right now.
How am I going to be funny now?
They took my joke, along with all of my backups, all at once
Oh wow, they DID make one
Game & Watch music
No...
Part of the joke was the looming inevitability
One day I would be right, and on that day the world would weep
But now the day has come, and nobody weeped
Ice Climber was added and I feel complete
its definitely nice that we're just getting all of these over with now since this was like
the era before people would bother with fitting both a game and a soundtrack on 8 kb but then again we're probably still going to get something like Super Mario Land on its own
was super mario land even added to NSO
i think it was on Mario day or something but its hard to remember because they still haven't added a bunch of other GB games because of dripfeed
Super Mario Land is on GB Classics
Quoting Nintendo of America (@NintendoAmerica)

60 MINUTES HERE WE GO
King no..,,
A while back, I made myself a playlist on the app that has songs which were included in Super Smash Bros. in some capacity.
Last night's update gave me a lot more tunes to add. It's now currently sitting at 7 hours & 5 minutes with 227 songs
The fact that Nintendo Music still doesnāt have any good DS soundtracks is abysmal
Thank you nintendo for giving us the Clu Clu Land soundtrack before any paper mario or earthbound
Well it's out of the way now at least
I guess
I think itād just make more sense if nintendo released soundtracks more frequently
Earthbound is licensing hell because of its sample usage
Oh yeah
unfortunately we live in the modern copyright hell where like 2 seconds of a sample or even a similar melody can get you copyright dinged
to get earthbound on this app, nintendo would need to not only get permission from all three earthbound composers but also get licensing for every sample used (which will more than likely be very difficult in the case of the Beatles samples)
Final thoughts: "glad they got this bullshit out of the way lmao"
Iām glad they just did a big drop of nothing instead of dripfeed
Canāt wait for the big drop of GB music
Most of these are all jingles, very few full songs that can loop. I imagine that's why they were added all at once.
Without a proper and precise pointer?
Before you say Skyward Sword
Need I remind you that there is no true infrared pointer
on Switch or Switch 2
The Wiimote has never been a precise pointer
You would be relying entirely on a gyroscope
I beg to differ on this point, but whatever the case, my entire point is that you can't point
If you're talking about the mouse pointer, sure, but it wouldn't be the most faithful thing in the world
But will it ever compare to the IR sensors and pointer? I doubt it
Look, I played a lot of Time Crisis growing up
My standards with things like light gun games is a little high because of that
I played Zapper games and Super Scope games on real hardware
I also played with a Wiimote, it's not the same thing.
On a Wiimote you just guess the aiming based on the direction rather than actually aiming the screen
it's just more accurate than a gyro because it relies on an IR camera
I assume from the sounds of this that you're talking about using it on its own, without any attachments
Which, again, fair enough
the attachments don't do anything in regards to pointing
Ah, I think I get you now
Due to the way the tech works, it can vary greatly depending on the screen
Just the unfortunate reality of how light gun games work...
it's still pretty reliable, but you don't aim at the screen
and that's one thing that gyro pointing and IR pointing has in common
but... just because gyro pointing is worse doesn't mean we shouldn't use it for light gun games
that's the only way to be close without using completely different controls like touch screen and mouse
and my point is to be able to play however you like
I fear that it's too easy to completely disorient the gyro
I played Splatoon 3 on Switch 2 there is a difference
Even if it is more reliable on Switch 2... That only matters if you go through the calibration beforehand
it's not THAT easy to disorient it
well yeah calibration is needed
recalibration is needed too
See, the thing with Splatoon is that you are moving a camera, not a pointer
it's the same thing.
how it works for Splatoon is also how it works for pointers
Disorientation is just as noticeable when it happens
Where you aim remains dead centre on the screen in Splatoon, though
yes but that doesn't matter
It does for game feel
Mechanically they may work, but it's more than just a shared control scheme
yes but game feel doesn't matter based on the problem you're talking about
disorientation exists regardless of the game feel
The way it works is still literally the same overall
All this just to play Duck Hunt?
yes
I feel like this is why they haven't done it
no
Too much effort for too little use
They just didn't do it because it's Nintendo they love to wait
Making a gyro pointer isn't hard.
And? What else could you use it for?
If you develop it for these two, maybe three games only those with a subscription have access to
Kind of a waste if you ask me
If you knew of all the other things that needs more effort than a gyro pointer that they did to certain games on NSO you really wouldn't say that.
and those things are specialized to a single game
... you're talking about the Sin and Punishment translation, aren't you
oh pfff, never mind me then
It's just a texture replacement.
I'm talking about stuff that is way more complicated than that
They added all e-Reader content to F-Zero GP Legend's japanese version (it wasn't done on Wii U)
In the second Fire Emblem game on GBA, in the japanese version, you could import a save from the previous game that's Japan only which required two GBAs to link
They made a hack that bypassed the linking entirely to import the save
That stuff requires actual reverse engineering of the game
Huh. Wonder if they did that for Golden Sun
they didn't
RIP
Reverse engineering a game is harder than making a gyro pointer
And yet they still won't do it, curious
and then add the fact that just about every game on NSO have anti epilepsy hacks
less flashing
those are not always automated stuff
Wasn't that removed on the VC Wii versions of those Zapper titles? Or am I mistaken?
I ask because I know why the flash was there in the original game
Wii U did remove the flashing, yeah
Ah, Wii U did but not Wii
I say Wii U because they never released those Zapper games on Wii VC.
Ah, that would explain
My point anyway is that NSO emulation is not just putting ROMs
There's a whole lot more work that most people don't notice
And I can't even say there's any less work for N64
despite how terrible the emulation is
which is the saddest part
If they did do gyro aiming... I wonder how it would be received
Aside from actually programming the pointer, what would they need to do?
emulate the Zapper itself of course
Remind the player each time that you need a gyro enabled controller?
no
well, you can
but you can just make it seamlessly work with gyro, or mouse, or touch screen tbh
but these are user interface concerns and that's pretty easy to deal with
I feel like they would have to stop you if no controllers connected at that moment have gyro enabled... which might be the case for those playing with the NES or SNES NSO controllers
Mmm.
The alternative is that it asks to change the controller
with that menu where you resync controllers
I was mostly thinking about this relative to how Bravely Default HD is one of the few games I own which will stop you from entering the new minigames until you pull out both Joy-Con 2s (because they use both mouse pointers at once)
anyway not difficult to deal with
That would pretty much be it, yeah
I just feel like if they did do gyro aiming, they should use it for more than just Nintendo Classics
Nintendo is the king of stuff that's only useful once
... I mostly feel this way because it is a standard feature of the PlayStation UI
when typing, you can enable gyro
Like, look at the IR camera on the Joy Con 1
look at the amount of games that uses it
You have that logic where everything has to be useful everywhere
That's not how Nintendo has been thinking
I doubt that was how the IR was conceptualised on the Joy-Con R, though
no, I have a literal quote from Nintendo about that
With Switch, we prioritized implementing something that could be used with any kind of software, such as the ability to play in both TV mode and handheld mode, rather than tasking software developers to create gameplay experiences that incorporate the hardware's unique features.
Rather than leveraging hardware features to create something unique, developers can now choose which software technologies they want to incorporate to make their games stand out. My honest opinion as a software developer is that just because a new hardware feature is added, it doesn't necessarily mean that various problems will be solved or that new kinds of gameplay experiences will be created one after another.
I am quoting the Ask the Developer Vol 16 about Switch 2
and they were talking about the Switch 1 here
this is Nintendo admitting that yeah the Wii & DS were cool but forcing gimmicks wasn't the best thing
I don't feel like it's the most apt comparison, if only because the subject we're talking about with making a gyro pointer for maybe one or two pieces of software is, IMO, slightly different to making the actual hardware features
My point is that the hardware features inside are not forced on Nintendo's devs to use
they do however they like with them
if they don't want to use some of them, they don't have to anymore
so my point here, if they want to make a gyro pointer just for one game, they don't have to worry about it and they can just do it
and anyway, they probably programmed so many gyro pointers that they can just reuse code
As I said, it's not a big deal
they don't need to justify the costs here
and that's what your argument is
and I have many examples where the costs are not necessarily justified and still did it
so, again, if they wanna do gyro pointer just for 4 Zapper games and 4 Super Scope games, there is nothing that prevents them to do so
they emulated the SNES Mouse
and the SNES Multi Tap
I can speak for myself, I can prove it that they did and is part of the SNES emulator on NSO
Or else I just do not understand your argument
the only thing I understood is that you think it's not worth doing some things just for a handful of games
and imo Nintendo is precisely that kind of company that can do things just for one game
We did initially go about how gyro pointers are worse than Wiimote
and yes, I agree, they are
...doesn't mean they shouldn't do it when it's the only choice that works for most users
maybe they should release a custom Zapper for the Switch
but they can't force it
I still can't say I am a firm believer that Nintendo would go out of their way to make the Zapper and Super Scope games work, though this has less to do with whether or not they could and more about whether or not they should
I mean I do think they will eventually do it for the Zapper
The effort to get that done may not be that large, but would it be worth undertaking at all?
Resources are more than just money...
to me it is worth undertaking
I can tell the NSO emulators are under a limited budget
A limited budget doesn't mean "Zapper games are not worth doing"
Time and labour are part of it, too.
yes
Well they spent time doing things for specific games all the time
I can tell, I have datamined those emulators
For what it would ultimately result in, could they justify expending the resources to go for it? Only they know the true reason... All we can do is speculate
I have a huge question to the Game Boy emulator devs on why they did not emulate the IR sensor of the GBC and why they preferred hacking PokƩmon TCG instead
or how the Game Boy Advance emulator is somehow more accurate than mGBA
... my only guess, assuming the two are related, is that the resolution of the IR is different between it and the Joy-Con R, but idk
no, it's to communicate between two GBCs
Ah.
wirelessly
Wonder if they just wanted to make the experience a little more seamless when doing multiplayer
Well I don't get why because they could have made it seamless without doing that
and in a way that works across all games that uses it
... I do wonder if it is easy to program emulation of those functions...
Well, regardless...
now sure maybe it's simpler via hacking instead
but that doesn't really explain everything
What would one even look like...?
... must admit
I thought that sentence meant you thought they would eventually make a zapper attachment
no I didn't mean that
but that probably was not what you meant
I just mean emulating the Zapper
I did mean they could make a Zapper accessory but they cannot force the user to own one
so the problem is still the same
... I doubt they would make a zapper accessory
I don't think they will
Just make no mistake I don't think they will do that
but I do think emulating the Zapper is a matter of time
and actually worth doing
I feel like if they do, they should do Super Scope, too
Well on Wii U they didn't do Super Scope for whatever reason
even though that thing is even easier to emulate than the Zapper
Or at least give us, like, Yoshi's Safari or whatever else used Super Scope...
Just to be clear, did they use similar technology for actually detecting your aim?
(the ones which today's monitors would absolutely be incompatible with)
Oh, huh.
Just capturing things differently, huh?
did you ever wonder about why the gun on PS1 needed to plug the video out through it?
well you do need to plug the yellow video cable through it
(my Time Crisis experience is mostly arcade...)
Time Crisis on arcade surely does the exact same thing
it's just all done for you so you don't see it
but the video out is actually so the aim direction can calibrate itself
Would explain the giant cables presumably hiding smaller cables for both gun input and video out
I see, I see
You know how a CRT displays an image?
it's a beam that scans top to bottom, left to right
... I think this conversation has enlightened me on how the G'AIM'E is supposed to work
Thanks, Slow Mo Guys, for teaching me this - and how thr NES Zapper works
Well on a technical level, what matters is that the beam is where it is the brightest on the moment
when it draws one pixel, on that moment it's bright
well on a light gun that isn't a Zapper, it can see which pixel is being drawn on the screen based on the light it gets, based on the time between the top and the pixel it's aiming at
Essentially getting X and Y position
and that's why you don't need flashing white objects anymore
Oh, so that's why the tech doesn't work with a modern screen, huh? Because the pixels remain on instead of relying on a human's persistence of vision to build the image
because it can just tell where the beam actually is
yeah
well the fun part about Super Scope games is like
Nintendo can just hack the games to force a calibration that always works
it's not hard because all of them uses the exact same Super Scope code
and you can just always tell which X,Y position it's aiming at
that's it, really
that's the "difficult" part and it's not that difficult
For the record, this here is a light gun game thing on Kickstarter, using AI apparently to register where you're aiming (and apparently it scales up to HUGE screen sizes if you somehow have those)
comes with Time Crisis by default
AI is probably used to tell the position based on the camera VS game screen
The Sinden Light Gun uses a different process where there's a border all around the screen and uses that to tell where it is aiming at
Your explanation of how the old tech worked got me thinking about the G'AIM'E as I never actually looked into how it actually works, but have been following the project for a while
Well you're talking to a SNES dev familiar with the peripherals
all I knew was that the G'AIM'E was AI powered, but didn't really have the insight on what it was actually using it for
Well the problem is that LCD screens just don't have a beam anymore
some DO though, and sometimes it actually works on light guns
but it's old stuff
on the Zapper though it's way less complex and way more dumb
I can definitely say this conversation has taught me something about how old light gun tech worked (and how the new AI-powered light gun is likely working)
Hence the flashes, right?
it's even dumber than that
because in reality there's like one white square per frame on everything you can aim
Again, the Slow Mo Guys vid on the Zapper showed me a lot
and then there's a delay on when the Zapper sees it and communicates back to the NES on what it saw
and the delay timing tells it what it saw
it also needs a frame of black before anything to prevent cheating just by holding the zapper up to something like white paper, apparently
on Wii U what they do is that when you fire the gun the screen freezes for a few frames to avoid the flashing
but honestly, freezing the screen to avoid showing stuff it shouldn't isn't even new to Nintendo
The Super Game Boy is such a good example of that
Huh.
Did you wonder how the Game Boy sends border graphics to the SNES
Done through the emu or through the ROM?
emu
I see, I see
Oh, is there a whole buncha weird data being shown on the screen as it happens?
yes
but before that, the GB game tells the SNES to not render anything new on screen until told otherwise
There are two lines of communication to the SNES
one of them is just for short bursts, where telling the SNES not to render the screen is useful for, and just general commands
I assume there's ways of seeing whatever's behind the curtains, per se
and then it uses the screen to send a large amount of data
yes
the funniest part is still Space Invaders for SGB though lol
well imagine fitting a SNES game in a GB game
and actually run it on a SGB
that's what they did
and Nintendo allowed that
Just took a look at a video of it... Wild.
I still say that Game Boy Space Invaders is disgusting, though. Those tiny, tiny sprites...
at least it's not the Atari 2600 version
True...
it's still a decent handheld version
but yeah if you have a SGB you'd be playing the superior version
Years before they offered a separate SNES cartridge version, from what I hear
but has an exclusive link cable mode
... probably because the SGB version included is based on Space Invaders DX, a same year release
which had its own VS mode
now obviously they won't emulate that on GB NSO
...They didn't bother to emulate the SGB functions
They would also not need to
Donkey Kong would have benefitted from that imo
Space Invaders Invincible Collection has Space Invaders DX on it as is
Kirby's Dream Land 2 too, to some extent
Ah yeah...
HELP HELP
But I have an understanding of why they didn't
when are they adding DK94 to Nintendo Music
if they add DK94, they need to add the SGB exclusive credits song.
Considering how some of the songs in Nintendo Music are actually extremely specific they might actually do it
I was also mostly thinking that it would happen because most of today's uploads were jingles

It's not an uncommon thing for old game music on streaming and download to mostly feature SFX instead of actual music
Or at least, it feels that way based on the way Namco did it
Love the sound of [RALLY-X SPECIAL FLAG]
but yeah I would actually kinda complain if DK94 gets added and it doesn't have what I just posted
it's really that random moment when you just hear a SNES song from a GB game
did they change the titles of the Tetris albums to now have a registered trademark symbol
I can't remember if it was like that on launch
Maybe... but that doesn't surprise me, given the whole Tetris Guidelines
It was there since Tetris got added
i see
reminded me to search up more about this where i learned it never released as a full cartridge in japan
figures
i suppose they could always do what they did with tetris nes
always kinda funny like that when there's a game that only releases for the overseas market despite being developed internally
The Wind Waker has breached containment
Maybe it removed itself, go check
It did not
I got two more tracks afterwards
I've never had this problem with the Nintendo Music Selects playlist before, and I've listened to every track to the point that it loops
The wind waked
The Woke Wind
I finally got my NSO renewed, which means it's time to catch up with the additions from the past few weeks
OH NO MY PLAYLIST IS FULL
Pinball is officially on my spoiler list
I'm gonna spoil you
I think they should add 26 more nes tracks next week
If you do then you will know my wrath
Ball
Youāll never guess what comes before that
Watch your back.
Random discussion question because I'm bored:
Not counting the rest of the Forgotten Land soundtrack, what do we think (or hope) the next Kirby game added to the Music app is going to be?
I'm predicting the next game will be Kirby Super Star.
....
Predicting Adventure
Return to Dream Land Deluxe would be awesome but I can't see them adding it before the original Wii game given some of the songs got a touch up in Deluxe.
I see it because it looks like they'd rather focus on what is available on modern consoles or developped in-house
I'd die and go to heaven if they added Adventure
I think Kirby's Adventure is a shoo-in. That would've been my next prediction after Super Star.
tbh i will say return to dream land deluxe
I'm so impatient for Kirby 64 to be added; one of my favorite soundtracks in the series
Rhythm Heaven would be clutch right about now
super star please please please please pl
I wondair.....
Pikmin
TTYD tonight
I'd be down for pikmin
34 snes games tonight
SNES games actually have full friggin' soundtracks, though
Super Metroid
I think they're probably going to end up saving FL for later
at this rate I don't think they're going to drop anything less than the full soundtrack
idk if they are even still selling it but it's been over 10 months so, I guess we're waiting the full year
mario paint music and nso drop holy shit
oh peak?
wait did they seriously add it to nso just now
I see nothing
apparently
I assume by "mouse required" in the trailer you need either joycon 2 or a usb mouse
Good drop honestly
yes
so switch 1 users can still play they just have to use third party accessories
And USB mice are cheap and easy to find anywhere
Peak???? š„ š„ š„ š„
I'm going to cry
always has been
they're putting this out now to build up to mario maker 3
š„
I needed this
Now I just wonder
Where the hell did "Creative Exercise" and "Monkey Song" even come from
probably Zophar's Domain
the options to select the music to play have some arbitrary icons on them
the icon for the first theme is the people from the intro so thats where exercising comes from
@novel pollen I think it's looking good for other peripherals to be put on Nintendo Classics in the future
With the sudden drop of Mario Paint on NM and SNES NC
Do you think they add the music if the game is being released to NSO expansion pass
Like if they added Kirby Air Ride on Nintendo Music, does that mean it will appear on NSO Gamecube?
It's probably the opposite in this case
Because it was being added to SNES NC, they added it to NM simultaneously
We got Luigi's mansion before the switch 2 was even out though didn't we
So, who knows
we did know it was coming to gcn nso by that point
we got wind waker before switch 2 was announced though
New bit: guy who puts Mario paint on nintendo music on the block list so he can play the simultaneous nso release without being spoiled
I know you changed it now.
Like, back? No
š
This has been so good
Given this is the first time they released a game for Nintendo Classics and Music simultaneously, I'm wondering if they plan to do something like this again in the future with a GameCube game or something
Why don't they have the version of the main theme with the baseline that plays while the credits roll :(
I feel like Mario Paint has been a "recently added" bumper for longer than usual
Doesn't it usually go away after five days? Like by Saturday?
But there it is today still
I thought those bumpers last for a week
I remember for the time between Fire Emblem Engage and Mario Kart 7 (9 days), Engage's bumper stayed until the following Monday
I could decidedly be wronge
Sweet Sweet Kingdom is so bad holy shit
@solemn salmon listen to it
MK8DX -> All Tracks
um i've listened to everything so far smh
i agree it's not that great
Yay
mayhaps
it does suck it feels like they're never going to add a Kirby soundtrack until they add the rest of FL
they'll put like, Mass Attack on there instead
rest of FL soundtrack will be added in 86 years
TTYD tonight
honestly rest of forgotten land with scw news kind of goes hard as a prediction
I mean also it kinda relies on the past week's thing being a pattern so that's probably not too likely in of itself
the only thing going for it is that there's likely FL news in the next 3 days anyway
Predicting Super Mario Land 2
No real reason, just gives the vibes of a Super Mario Land 2 day
Just⦠no RTDLDX please, I will die, errrr I mean HAL needs to release the CD istg I need the CD release of RTDLDX
We need Paper Mario representation
Itās ridiculous how little nintendo has been adding to this app
What about RTDL? They haven't dropped a new Kirby playlist since March
pokemon x and y
Watch it be LGPE
actually apparently august 4 is pokemon xd's anniversary in japan
it's not that date in jp anymore but close enough
since we're getting that on nso at some point that game actually has some modicum of a chance
so i'll say xd
Going from the most recent mainline Pokemon games to XD would be really funny
it would
that's why i'm hoping
also bc it would be sick if they tied that into an nso release bc i really want to play that game rn
Super Mario World 2: Yoshi's Island came out on August 5th, but it's already on Nintendo Music bahaha
even if they just did the whole simultaneous nso release thing last week
to commemorate the yoshi's island anniversary, we're releasing yoshi's new island instead!
š¦
Actually skipping colosseum nso too in the process would also be funny
š„
Guys
Densetsu no Starfy 3 came out 21 years ago today as well
Always bet on Pikmin
Also Kirby Mass Attack turned 14 yesterday
So there's four possible games regarding anniversary or a new game sound track
they don't really care about anniversaries for random games
only anniversaries they've cared about are like, PKMN LA and KatFL for specific games, and then Fire Emblem and Splatoon for specific series and they used Engage and the first game to represent each
They don't care about Kirby Mass Attack and Pokemon XD
But care about a game I hardly know: Wave Race 64?
yes
I care about wave race 64ā¦
dream course
Super Metroid
š š š š
incredible
At least itās 3 games
pilotwings 64 š„
And not one
and the other two who cares
Pilotwings isnāt on nso yet is it actually
This hints that we will get pilotwings switch 2 edition
both are
The most attachment I have to this is the Jumble Hopper theme
multi pilotwings drops are nice ig
Iām just out of touch ok
always nice to get more than one game a week
I stg we're actually waiting until December for full ost

They will drop the entire OST on the final 2 weeks of 2025

Maybe the CD sales theory were real after all
The second it ends the sale the music will be on the app
if they also drop scw with the rest of FL in dec i'd be fine with it tbh
realistically I think they drop SCW ost in like way past the base game stuff
maybe 2026 at best
Dw Iāll make sure to tell Nintendo to drop Blockball OST when I apply for HAL and Nintendo in near future
64 has some real bangers btw I immediately put on birdman
I don't think they'll make a SCW OST CD but idk maybe they'll bundle it with a Dream Buffet OST to make it worthwhile
Still waiting for my RTDLDX CD </3
The app hasn't added the three for me yet
yeah it sometimes bugs out when you check on the hour
bro
I LOVE HRIDMAN
