It and Big Blue are examples of uniquely composed songs in this game, and on their album mix as well as replays on Mario Kart TV, they play out IIRC as one full track, whereas in game the final section of the song normally plays during the third section of the course itself

It subverts the traditional sped-up song of a final lap variation

... basically, my guess is that they decided to remain consistent to their previous album release and not include final lap variations at all for that reason

whereas they may have done a fresh capture of the audio for the Super Mario Kart songs

I would have argued that they might have considered the bloat of an individual soundtrack on the service, but that argument does fall apart somewhat in the face of Animal Crossing and The Legend of Zelda

Though their respective soundtracks are really that massive IRL, and are perhaps more justifiable since there's nothing truly redundant within them

I'd know, owning a physical copy of both...

It's not inaccurate to say that, though, since all the tracks from that original soundtrack are placed more or less in the exact same spot as they are on this digital distribution; as I said, it's based on the physical release

Same goes for many of the soundtracks on the service, which you can tell with Kirby Star Allies in particular as the Jukebox listing is different to the physical soundtrack and its Nintendo Music distribution (the latter two matching each other completely), though admittedly the majority of examples are basically exact replicas of the tracklist from the NIPPON COLUMBIA releases

The important thing for me here is that MK8DX's case is close enough to that previous album that it makes me think they omitted Final Lap variations to maintain consistency with that previous release

Even if we have no idea when, or even if, we will ever see a new retail release featuring the MK8DX music - the wireless play menus, Booster Course Pass and Battle Mode...

In any case, it's mostly a nerdy observation from me, a person who has spent probably hundreds of hours on VGMdb looking up all sorts of soundtracks

and my best attempt at reasoning when it comes to the decisions regarding certain releases relative to this latest pick

I admittedly probably wouldn't have had as much of a storm of words to type if they never released a Mario Kart 8 physical soundtrack in the first place

Another thing to note is that I think the physical Mario Kart 8 soundtrack has it so the course songs transition into the 1st-place versions (where it plays an extra beat in the background) midway through.

And some tracks like Shy Guy Falls, Wild Woods, and Wario's Gold Mine also get their versions with the Shy Guys singing included

Much as I love Kenji Hiramatsu, there's something about repeatedly listening to XC3's soundtrack and understanding its direction, knowing that the song that most sounds like XC1 and XC2 only plays three times for a soundtrack that is 9 discs strong...

It might be that I accept the reasons for their intentional decision to restrict how often they used Carrying the Weight of Life in XC3 itself, which goes in contrast to the comments of a lot of people who listen to it
