||that sure was a super mario movie that, while primarily based on super mario galaxy, barely followed any of its plot beats and instead took a lot of unexpected routes, which were actually not unexpected at all because at least half the movie was spoiled in promotional material

the pacing was as inconsistent as the first movie, though i honestly think it worked well enough for most of the film until the final act which felt insanely rushed

i think the bowser and bowser jr stuff was pretty great though also felt a bit rushed at the end

fox was honestly one of my favorite parts even though i've never played star fox

yoshi is yoshi

i wish there was a lot more rosalina, and also more galaxy stuff in general

the ending felt very anti-climactic, i really wish it was actually based on the galaxy 1 ending

the post-credits scene was cool but i honestly still have no idea what the third movie could be about LOL||

Like I dunno if it’s because I’m a Mario fan but there’s several movies that have left me feeling empty (homecoming, Shang chi), conflicted (iron man3) and others that infuriated me (transformers 2) so I was left pretty satisfied by the end of it but I do agree the movies narrative still could have been better

|| I think it's how he calls B Jr. like he's incredibly miffed. And usually characters like him getting mad on calls can lead to them issuing threats for whatever reason. If he just wanted to warn B Jr about Peach closing in on him then it feels like he'd be less furious at what seems to be B Jr's direction. If he got to say something like "A certain party crashing princess is on her way. You better take care of that." So it's like he wants revenge on Peach by proxy of the Bowser army I think that would've book ended his involvement in the plot nicer than him just beaming daggers over a video call screen||

I believe one major factor as to why SMGM isn't a FNAF 2 is because ||The Mario Movie wasn't trying to adapt major storylines from the source material. So by the time of the sequel, Galaxy would be more of a different breed of thing rather than be obligated to adapt for something||

my biggest issues with mario galaxy are like ||it doesn't really live up to its name at all with how pretty much any other game nintendo has released gets more focus than galaxy, rosalina has like three scenes total and i think that's awful with how good of a casting choice brie larson was and how well done she seemed to be in the comet observatory scene at the start, a handful of references were unendearingly cheesy and forced like the second "do a barrel roll" and bowser being like "i am bowser. and you will feel my fury." or whatever||

• Mario is the one to extend a helping hand to scared Yoshi
• Mario's gift was the umbrella whiched help Peach out on the movie.
• Luigi is the one who extends the SOS for the lumas to find them
• Mario and Luigi fight against (Bowser Jr), they fail and as a result Bowser Sr is released
• Mario's little side plot involves his feelings with Peach which I thought were cute.
• Mario's the one that selflessly closes off the gate and fends off the two bowser baddies.
• Luigi gets a fun scene involving G&W||
  but yeah, I'm surprised there's been complaints about those two. Saying they don't matter ot the plot at all just because they don't have any stakes just doesn't feel fair at all.

||For me, it felt like there's actual chemistry between the characters in general and they just feel a lot more natural and livelier than in the first movie. I have a big paragraph detailing each on the cast, some of which I actually felt like were pretty close to the games despite some minor differences.

Rosa is understandably a point of frustration. I think she's the only L though I think she's likely returning for the next.||

||I can see issues with the narrative but going in and anticipating a mess, I was left surprised how much...it just actually flowed well for me, with how much I wasn't lost and able to process the scenes together. I do get complaints from wanting a richer movie in terms of fleshing out these characters but I got a serviceable-enough narrative that doesn't distract away from the character action and humor||

||now you can go in a long detail why it's not good enough and how much we deserve better and that there's better kid movies, yada yada yada, yeah those critiques are valid and I get where they're coming from, but from my perspective and as someone who had 0 feelings for the first movie, I ended up enjoying this one and I do think the casting and visuals had a lot to do with it. Having Luigi and Yoshi alongisde Mario helps a lot to liven the adventure up.|||

||I didn't say you can't complain about it, the 2nd paragraph is meant to acknowledge those narrative problems. I've seen complaints that people felt disoriented, overwhelmed or things felt incohesive and confusing so I was concerned but no, geniunely I recieved enough to go on without it getting distracting to me. Your mileage may vary of course, becuase i knew I was going in that these characters wouldn't be fully explored.||

||yeah it's never really seen anyone say the mario movie 1 or 2 didnt flow well or saying that the super mario movie is hard to follow (at least to a higher or lower extent than each other, so it seems like a minority opinion even among people who like both movies). I mean, especially with the second movie still doing stuff like having the protagonist catch up to bowser jr, but actually no because no he uses a baby gun to turn them into babies and they then fall onto a planet where they have to deal with a super mario odyssey reference. Because for some reason bowser jr decided to throw the baby gun off the ship instead of putting it back on the shelf for future use where he would've won, so we could get a very intelligent scene where they find the gun to turn them back in literal seconds and yoshi doesn't just grab it with his tongue at any point||

||I know two or so people said in the channel they felt disoriented, overwhelmed or "dizzy" so I had presumptions thinking that the plot itself being that way. 🤷‍♂️ ||

in terms of stuff that is only in the plot for the sake of referencing something
like a kingdom of talking penguins or an island of monkeys with vehicles or said bike made by them having conveniently unelaborated anti-gravity functions||

||seems like I'm in the minority for enjoying the fossil fall scene since it gave a Yoshi a little bit more to do and it was fun seeing Yoshi juxtaposed to a more realistic T rex. Dunno, could just be my dino brain liking that.||
||Like I do think the scene itself is so brief that even for a detour, that I'm totally just fine that the gun inexplicably turns them into babies but it's also because Bowser asked Jr to spare them so that was his way of doing that (whilst still leading them to their deaths).||

||there's also the following scenes after that I like such as a frustrated Peach, Mario smoothily navigating and acknowleding her feelings, Luigi sending out the sos etc.||

well they just break the plot if they let her beat up everyone so there was going to have to be something that gives her a reason to not be the most powerful person in the movie||

and like this is a take so ||like I enjoy whacky hijinks in these kind of movies. Sort of like how Daffy and Bugs get into all sorts of crazy adventures. I felt like the first movie didn't have a lot of that.||

||I think there was a way to get Rosalina more involved in the story, I think if for whatever reason Fox fell through, they could have a depowered Rosalina escape the ufo and find her way to gateway galaxy.||

||yeah but it's more related to anything else in the main plot, the plot of the first movie "bowser's trying to take over all the kingdoms (the penguin and monkey kingdoms are directly related to and is just worldbuilding) and use the super star as his ace, and mario seeking out the kongs for their army, they all go back to the real world, and fight bowser there and beat him with the super star". Like the most left field thing I could think of is them ending up in a whale at some point, and they fell into the water since the fight was over intercontinental waters, so there's a connection there. It's the most cliche thing you could've done actually. "And then the protagonists get shot with a baby gun" is just a moment that's "genuinely what the fuck does this have to do anything"||

I felt the Kong inclusion was worse here than they did with Fox. The latter still played a very important part and his role in the story felt more organic here in the movie if I'm being real.||

||Like the kongs were meant to be played as this powerful army that stood a chance against Bowser's army and they got these karts annnnd...they all got intercepted already, making it feel almost pointless what Mario had to go through.

Like I'm not saying this with recency bias here, I think I made it completely certain that the first movie didn't do much for me even before the 2nd movie came out.||

||dk in the end was also majorly responsible for getting mario to defeat bowser so its not entirely wasted. they even get a good moment together inside the eel||

Like "maybe the other protags have to deal with this and sneak back onto the ship to get the gun and turn them back to normal", before I realized "wait this is stupid, why is this here in the first place" lol||

Like if it was a detour, it was better served to get it out the way asap but I get where people are coming from thinking it's a bit pointless. Probably the equivalent to the rainbow road scene.||

||having the arwing crash makes sense since it allows for the lumas to show up and for them to swap ships to the observatory, but it makes fox's role lamer since bro gets crashed mere minutes after being introduced and then just shifts the plot to funny yoshi island reference||

As a Galaxy 2 fan more than Galaxy 1 fan, maybe that's why I just didn't care that much about Rosa getting second hand dishes in the story. Like I would have tried to make her important just to keep other people happy but I just wasn't that affected by it personally.||

||they literally could've just made bowser jr shoot down the ship nonlethally (which in essence the ship still gets shot down anyways), fox cry about his ship getting broken etc., and then they can cut straight to releasing the sos that's coincidentally picked up by comet observatory, and the movie wouldn't have to be an hour and 30 minutes||
