and I can totally can see why Galaxy 1 resonates with people, I also just feel the other games i've played on top of other more serious Mario stories (Brothership in particular) had made me feel Galaxy has become a game that while understandably revered for its time, aged a bit in areas that made me respect it but not longer love it as much.||

from an Interview, ||the idea is to design a sequel with a more expansive theme, and the idea of space/ Galaxy is right there. A lot of stuffs were exchange between Nintendo and Illumination, and what follows is a lot of ideas. Fox was suggested due to the movie being Space theme, and Miyamoto approved. Originally the only cross IP cameo is Pikmin apparently|| (mostly paraphrasing)

So the movie is an attempt to expand the first movie it seems

||I think Miyamoto also views Galaxy a lot more differently than other people. Like I think he's the guy that's viewing it through the mechanics lens and its basic setting.||

||if you read what he said in that interview, he talks in length about the character movement being affected by the space setting more so than the actual locales in that game.||

It goes how the modern media landscape is about how most movies are just about just emotionless action figures fighting each other, without emotions, specially love attraction.

From the family movies, Disney itself is kinda at fault too, trying to "correct" the bad faith critisims of how they depict love in the 90s movies, they went from Tangled to slightly change how the romance work, to frozen outright going all meta, and from there, love was mostly "yeah it happens but in the background". Wish being a movie had a love story at first but was removed to make the protagonist the same as the others.

It a long article but it was something alot of people notice, specially with mario and peach being called "good friends" link and zelda never acting romantic in screen even when there is subtext in the cutscenes and even the JP script about it, while sega has tone down amy´s love for sonic ALOT ALOT.

it just seems like mario was not longer interested in peach and viceversa, and its ok but removing that slight love crush they had was a little sad....the movie i think handled its pretty well

like is does feel a little rushed but, idk, mario and peach togheter were very amazing in this movie, and yoshi and luigi being the wingmen...wingman and wingdino was also nice. Honestly, I just feel a lot of people are coming at this with hard feelings about it being a galaxy movie. I could come in thinking this movie is a bit messier in general because it's actually a bit more ambitious (yes, I said ambitious) with its cast while the first movie really played it safe with where the Mario cast went.

I'm sorry but Galaxy does have the same theme as much as the first movie does, both don't exactly explore it as much as an all ages film does. Like even if you want to use "don't give up" angle for the first movie, how would you tie that to the character aspect when it comes to gravity?

I also hear that the cast gel better here given from what I read. I think reverse-recency bias is at play here.

The reason chris Pratt was cast in the first movie was because his role as Emmett in The Lego Movie and how the kindness of performance fit mario's characteristic generous personality. Mario isnt particularly generous at all in this movie imo lol. He's mean to bowser even when he isnt doing anything and luigi has to give him kindness. Which. Out of character!!!! My first reaction to the trailer was that out of character, mario explicitly canonically extends kindness to everyone even bowser! 0/10!!! /j The only generous thing he does in this movie is save bowser jr from being eaten, which would be a big thing to not let happen, and is so common of action protagonists theres a trope named after it and deadpool is in this territory. And also there's the scene at the beginning where he's doing tasks for the mushroom kingdom, and even then that's kind of cheapened by peach dropping the kingdom on them so what are they really supposed to do. He's acting like a normal guy. And even then it's a montage so it's barely voiced, and a lot of his energy while doing it has snark. And yeah, most of his generousity and behavior in general in this movie is snarky lol. So the entire reason chris pratt was hired is barely relevant in this movie which is kinda funny lol.||
