we aren't in general looking to add new channels since we already have plenty, so it would need to have a good reason to exist. and based on what I've observed, the little art talk that happens is in general or in some threads in #canvas-curse . plus you have to consider how we have two art channels right now, would that mean two channels for art talk? where to place it?
we have tried in the past art threads for specific pieces, but they never got enough use, and there was also concerns of people getting upset if a certain art piece got a comment but others didn't
and you mention "to stop chat from getting clogged up", have you noticed this happening frequently in the art channels here?

I think the Lavender that's available on this server is way darker and magenta-ish than it should be, since, in the games, it was a color violet in hue and also slightly darkened and very desaturated. I think grape is fine, since in the games it's either desaturated violetish blue in Amazing Mirror (which is exactly how it is on this server) or darkened and desaturated magenta in Squeak Squad.

hi, appreciate the suggestion, but unfortunately for a server this big it is not ideal for a couple of reasons. not only does it disrupt logging messages for those that use it, it also invites people to unfortunately misuse it. even if we only allowed certain people

i think it may be worth reconsidering the removal of embeds in coo's chatroom. the only reason i heard for why it was removed was because of someone spamming unrelated images, but i think it's a little much to remove something entirely because of one person. i'm sure spam and general rule breakage has happened before in general and other channels, and having embeds in by far the largest channel versus none in coo's chatroom, which is only active when a few people are in there or someone happens to be streaming seems a little wild to me. now i wasn't there for when the spam happened so i don't know how bad it truly was, but every time i've been in there, people have always been respectful and civil. i think going the nuclear route's a bit much is all.
and FWIW it's not something i'm incredibly upset about or anything despite the wall of text lol. but i enjoy VCing here so naturally i'll have an opinion

the main reason it was removed was because the purpose of text VC is when you are muted as a way to talk to others, not post gifs and memes. the meme channel can be used if you need to show anything particularly important
it was also partly a test to see if it would reduce clutter in that channel
I don't have much time and while I'm sure we will explain better in due time, it would be helpful to know why you all would need embeds in a text VC channel

I think this situation is easy to pop up, a random enemy image can probably wok on a meme channel visible to everyone but somebody self conscious about their unfinished art would probably be more wary of putting the wip in the meme channel, and the 10 minute thing on the art channels would probably prevent that too

The thing about VC's is that they're meant to be self contained. Needing to put something only meant for a temporary audience out into a more public space beforehand kinda defeats the point of it
In a session with dozens of users, yeah I can see the concern with clutter (and of course the misuse). But again, these are partially private channels, so whatever nonsense goes on in there, nobody else will even be aware of it unless they join the session
As for an IRL example, really any session involving drawings (general art or gartic-like games) neccessitates the use of images in VC

and i guess if you want a direct answer from me as for why embeds are necessary, they're just as necessary as they are in any other channel since pictures can help contextualize things. especially considering if you're in a VC it's all about conversation
and i mean, so long as GIFs are relevant and aren't just being posted to be spammy then they're just as valid for communication considering this is obviously a text based service primarily, we're all here to have fun and make jokes, i feel. a good GIF is pretty good at that

again, the VC text channel is for you to talk when you have no mic. generally speaking the intention is that if you are having a conversation that requires a lot of images, then you should also be streaming
this isn't the say we will never return images, but I want to once again clarify the main use of the VC text channel in any format, and thus why the decision was made, because it was often used as an image dump instead when it is not the intention behind the channel
originally the old vc text channel didn't have embeds, which is also why it motivated this change as a test

i took like a hiatus when the decision were taken, and the previous pattern is that the vc often had like multiple streams with like 3 to 5 people watching it

then two big streams happened, i think like two or three mods were present and then ultimately it's now at 10
i agree - maybe meeting in the middle at 15 might be okay? 10 can be too little sometimes, however i don't think streams that are too big happen enough anyway

i was in a vc where the number of people reached 8, which to me is already dangerously close to 10, but idk if this is enough of a threshold since i consider a vc to be overcrowded if it reaches 2/3 of its capacity (aka 7 people in a 10 person vc)
changing it to 15 would bring the threshold up to 10 people
a more stricter threshold would put it at like 75% capacity (so, 8 people in a 10 person vc)
also 15 just feels like a sweet spot to me
and it is also linked to the idea of dunbar's number, which puts the upper limit of friendships at around 150
but in a stream like this you probably only need like 15 people max

this is where you make your own judgement on which channel fits best your question. a lore question in the KARs thread would fit more if it's about KARs specifically or directly related to it. if it's more general, kirby-kingdom. similarly, if you were asking a lore question about say the novels specifically, that's in kirby-adaptations. if it's more generic and may involve novels maybe, kirby-kingdom
we just don't want people to post in multiple channels the same thing. like, we have #gaming-galaxy but also game specific threads. imagine if people started to post messages about pokƩmon both there and in the pokƩmon thread. it defeats the purpose of more specific channels

tbh, this is only somewhat effective in the short term imo
as more servers implement a honeypot channel, plenty of spam bots will learn to avoid the honeypots by scanning common names for those honeypots
also there is some possibility that some innocent member is dumb enough to post a message to that channel, so it also needs some screening on whether or not its a spam bot or just a member unlucky enough to chat in that honeypot server because they didnt read the signage
i mean, just how many people actually read through an EULA when they were installing a program?

Unfortunately it's very easy for someone to accidentally send a message in the wrong channel through either being distracted, discord being weird and laggy, or as you said, not reading. We already have safety nets in place for people sending scam messages into every channel, and even if those nets don't always trigger it's a lot easier to manually ban a compromised account than deal with several innocent people getting banned for missing a message

sometimes though people just accidentally didnt read it due to distraction, bugs, or even by simply not noticing you are in the wrong channel until its too late
one option i can see is instead of instabanning everyone who chats in that honeypot channel, we put them in an indefinite mute and then decide whether or not its a spam bot or not

some servers has a transition zone where you are technically a member of a server, but you are not granted access to all the server's channel due to your status of not being verified

Essentially a dummy channel that, if you were to send a message in it, you would get an automatic kick/ban

this could be a solution to the spam bot problem by putting two channels on that waiting area, one for the verification waiting room and one for the honeypot channel

yeah that is a problem that isnt really addressed by my solution, which basically covers only spam bots who enters the server "the legitimate way"

We really do appreciate all the concerns about and how itās possibly a lot of work for modās side, and these feedback/suggestions are very nice to receive for sure, though.
It is a issue for several public server, which fortunately usually has some filter to auto mute someone for posting bunch of links/scams/etc in several channels or specific link auto deletes by the server bot as well.
Thereās really no ārightā or āwrongā answer hereā everything is technically correct, where some server utilizes them are very helpful, while other servers has different method as well.
With amount of compromised account these days, it makes it more difficult with amount of accounts that shows up each day, but itās easier to verify via real person to be more accurate.
A lot of the actual scam/troll/whatever bad accounts are like brand new, and we usually take extra caution when we spot brand new user (account age wise) as well.
I mean hence why thereās several mods on the server, to get rid of ābad accountsā manually
Honestly, and personally, I am very comfortable with dealing with these situations with the current team lol

The spam bots gets smarter each day, and getting harder to figure out, or sometime the whole thing falls through everyoneās radar, and thereās nothing much we can really do or that thereās any good solutions (and discord isnāt very good with account reports as well)
This server wise, the current style is the most effective and most familiar, but other server may have their ways with using honeypot that avoids getting caught and prevented by spam bots as well.
All we can really do, is just keep kicking and rolling around those compromised accounts and hopefully people will report if thereās any suspicious activity or suspicious user around

The worst way to utilize the honeypot method is to put such a channel at the very top of the server list. For some people, Discord will always load on the top channel, increasing the chances of innocent people getting banned
I have seen some channels being put at the very bottom alongside other "dead" channels, but I am not sure how spam bots work to fully know how efficient that strategy is
But yeah seems like what this server has currently is doing a pretty good job, I rarely see scam posts (or any sus content in general).
But when it comes to bots, as bad as this sounds: Be very suspicious of accounts with "real" human pfp's and a real name. No sane person would go on discord without an alias.
