The Doctor is an alien that can change their appearance, allowing multiple actors to play the doctor. That is also why they’re mostly numbered: first, second, third, etc. The fourteenth version introduced the practice of using the same actor that already played the Doctor again

The latest version of the Doctor is (may be?) played by one of the actors from the very first season. It’s an actor that the fanbase loves, Billie Piper, but fans by now are jaded about casting the role to someone that already played a big significant character
