i don't think they're going to make a card with multiple nonevergreen mechanics that aren't otherwise in the set at uncommon
convoke at home
I get they want you to tap maps and treasures for this but 4 is pretty up there
this feels like the best of this kind of card
[[ensoul artifact]]
it may be worth
1 more mana and 1 less toughness, but replaces itself... hm
"Warden of the Inner Sky"
Creature – Human Soldier
As long as there are three or more counters on Warden of the Inner Sky, it has flying and vigilance.
Tap three untapped artifacts and/or creatures you control: Put a +1/+1 counter on Warden of the Inner Sky, then scry 1. Activate only as a sorcery.
1/2
always good to get another reprint of lightning greaves
Promising Vein
Land – Cave
T: Add {C}
1, T, sacrifice ~: Search your library for a basic land, put it onto the battlefield tapped then shuffle.
Inverted Iceberg
Artifact
When ~ etb, mill a card then draw a card.
Craft with artifact 4UU.
/ / / /
Iceberg Titan
Artifact Creature - Golem
Whenever ~ attacks, you may tap or untap target artifact or creature
6/6
this is quite nice
instantly added to standard humans lmao
oh damn that's good
wish it was a 3 drop
it be like that
Lot of cats
He died a billion years ago too
Dude was a dominara oldwalker, probably didn't even go anywhere
I don't care how many Dinosaur cards you send at my door
I'm not getting UB cards!!!
Prolly New Etali or New Ghalta if we're being the most general
oh this getting new ghalta seems crazy
I would rather just play bonecrusher ngl
Thats a commander card ye?
100%
yeah LCC cards are the commander decks
It won't be in the decks though
Oh it actually has the setcode
I thought it was one of those 'printed in mainset, made for commander' cards
It is
I thought it would at least be standard legal tho
Nah if it's got the commander symbol, it goes straight to commander
As in
The card doesn't look like it has a reason to not be standard legal
We can handle 3 mana rocks right
It's not a part of standard, pioneer and I think modern
Wow they hate BD Wong
probably gonna be a good card in this set since there are so many cards with craft
Ladies gentlemen and people of both, neither or a mix, I present to you
FUGUS WIZARD
Kinda hate that art
It looks like a 2000s nu metal band cover
Like it's good art but it's gross
Is that a…? Nah can’t be lol
Really liking the Dinos though. I think they’ll definitely be used around me lol
Turns out this is because B D Wong is very protective of his rights, especially with his new contract for the Jurrasic movies
Weird they even tried to give him a card then when he wouldn't let it happen
Because honestly, a legendary facing away from the art looks BAD
I think they really wanted that with a name like "synapse necromage"
Yeah it's really fitting and well done art
It's just also gross and I don't like looking at it
ye
Good thing it's draft chaff
... I was about to ping you lmao
it's all dinos all the way down with this set, apparently
dinosaurs, fungi, golems, and cats
well
this is concerning
DINO FURY?!?!?
ahh
I see
this man is using the ol' "switch your deck with your hand" trick
the brother is having too much fun
definitely too much fun
Dino Thunder better
dude is living the spirit of historic brawl
is anyone else getting this bug for mwm, I can't figure out what I got for the second ICR both times
and capybara (eventually)
I think this is one of the easiest craft requirements in the set
vigilance is a strong keyword too
4 mana is pretty steep tho
tendershoot golem
oh huh
that is humongous to be fair
idt this is playable but maybe I'm underestimating it
its okay
Is this supposed to have flavor text or something?
New concept by WOTC, DIY flavour text
Grab a sharpie and get creative!
its a translation so they didnt include the flavor text translation
I would not play it in mono green, or even a hypothetical gruul dinos
Apparently the flavor text is
ーHuatli```
even post Ixalan, I'm looking at what we have available, And I think you go Naya for dinos in standard
you want that splash of white
Poggers
My dreams are coming true
Flavor fail, card doesn't beat [[Phyrexian Dreadnought]]
it does if you use the generated mana to cast [[naturalize]] 😎
The text says it has seen one tear a Dreadnought apart, not that it won in a fight againist one

LETS FUCKING GO
Me when I do not play paper or comander but I contemplate buying a commander deck
Exquisit Blood reprint wooooo!
ZETALPA STOCKS INCREASED BY ONE ZETALPILLION
Anyone have a link to the Reddit post where they link Maros spoilers to the actual card
No trapjaw tyrant reprint kinda sucks
The new dinosaur cards are just fine imo
The copy and the draw one are good, egg is pretty good if slow, wrathful raptors is interesting etc
Nothing standout tho
I think the card that impressed me most out of the precons is this
Step 1: Play Wrathful Dinosars + 5 other dinos
Step 2: Play Star of Extinction
Step 3: Nuke everyone
Casual 7 card combo
There are like 4 cards from the precon I want
But they're all projected to be pretty expensive
Although on another note
Is this literally the most value we've seen in precons?
Letting you know that the dinosaur precon has a card that hasn't been revealed
The daughter of gishath, itzquinth
Hmm
Does Pioneer Dinosaurs pivot away from Enrage synergy with Maurading Raptor?
How many Dinosaurs with 2 or less HP are we getting
Actually it looks like Beligerent Yearling is the only one so far
Hmm
Also Bonehoard Dracosaur tokens are 3/1
and Palani's Hatcher eggs are 0/1
where the cool commons at
Surely we will get more capybara, but still nice to see one.
CAPYBARA AND ITS PAUPER PLAYABLE
Last card from the dino precon
Gishath is disappointed in their firstborn
Hopefully the next one says any target
Sorry kiddo
Dinosaurs do not beat planeswalkers
Regisaur Alpha?
I still think this card is nutty
maybe a little too specific to be good-good
but it's a good check to interactive decks
I could see it in Sideboards
if they counter your play
they still take four damage
makes me think of that menace 3/3 that blocks healing and burns for creatures entering
has its own anti-archetype niche in the 3 mana space
[[Trumpeting Carnosaur]]
the dream of revealing a dino haste enabler like Regisaur Alpha or Palani's Hatcher
Your opponent's can't WHAT now?
Bro really said put a silence on a counter spell
So it's both a Negate AND a Silence???
Gentlemen I think we found a new staple countermagic
Wait
Why didnt Cavern of Souls get oracle'd to be a cave
Actually that might be too good
they didn't errata anything to be caves
though now that i think about it a lot of people are probably gonna misplay because they think cavern of souls is a cave when it isn't
like vs storm or spellslinger decks?
I figure the big point of playing silence in commander is protectively to combo off, but ig that would be a decent second silence?
Permission denied is a reactive silence and proactive versions are played so it should be decent
It’s a 2 for 1 basically
You have to react to permission denied on the stack, and that puts cedh tables at a disadvantage
Sure it’s 2 for 1 but it’s also 2 mana and uw
current list for NBH, holds up surprisingly well
all the draw makes it weak to unnerfed bowmasters and shelly but I'm trying to mitigate that with blue sun's, oko and brazen borrower
up the beanstalk doesnt do a ton in this list
I should probably reduce the number but it's helped in some grindy matchups
ig I could just do more uro
uro is still a stronger card than up the beanstalk
also i think u could optimize this way better
ive been tinkering with necropotence
but ill give something like this a try
still figuring it out yeah
first draft I had from last event had hydroid krasis (which seems like too much of a liability now) and weird shit like swan song to fight channel
I feel like prime titan is an auto-include with field, this thing is nuts
oko I didn't run initially but I wanted something to answer bowmasters/shelly
I played something like this on the first run but kept getting mana/color screwed so I decided to just go simic
I feel like field hard carries titan in this format
you get natural value from what you're doing already
yea but even with fields its not good
First game of the NBH and they chose.. Mono Red aggro
titan likes field to grind a game out when u cant just titan for an instant kill
idk I've fetched multiple fields and the opponent hasn't been able to close out the game past that point, then I just hit them with way too many tokens
we have no way to titan for an instant kill in this format
oh i think u just havent played into the ragavan moon decks
b/r midrange is strong
I've only faced a bit of moon yeah
I'm actually still seeing people trying out a whole bunch of stuff
same but a ton of it isnt good
someone tried to do temur titan field with transmogrify which did not work out in the mirror at all
the best deck probably is that, or izzet with ragavan
rn I'm trying to figure out some fun playstyle that holds up in the format
is bloodtithe still decent in this format? when I see this card I feel like super not threatened by it
meanwhile
we made it
I didn't get the big screencap where we both had like a dozen monsters on the field when I broke through his board
but here's the post-game ending
@twilit canyon I'm done cooking by the way
Not necessary
I feel like OBM slows the deck down a bit and you can handle Rags
You can try three Shredders and no Mind Spikes for three OBM though
christ I forgot that most creatures with 1 toughness are unplayable rn lmao
this is probably just the unequivocal best deck with the most "best" cards in the format
wait why is crucias still nerfed in nbh?
alchemy cards are permanent changes to the digital-only cards
they dont have a nerfed version or unnerfed version to revert to.
T1 ornithopter and this to poke someone for 2
[[great furnace]]
artifact red could
Maybe Boros?
The closest thing to that is Boros yeah
Most artifact heavy decks are azorious, but there's Boros synthesizer
Thraben inspector gets you live earlier
[[epicure]]
Multiple cards match “epicure”, can you be more specific?
It's pretty much just for her and a couple flicker guys
[[vodarian epicure]]
The idea is to flicker synthesizer and beat them to death
No card found for “vodarian epicure”
[[voldarian epicure]]
missed an l
huh, i always thought epicure's name was "burn 1, create a blood token"
She turns on your other 5-8 bolts too

I guess you could run epicure, but having a way to draw is nice
Oh right blood tokens cycle
yea i guess glint hawk and such are p good
i just dont love the consistency hit to running boros in pauper
Pauper can easily play 2-3 colors here and there
There's enough tapped duals now for pauper it's not terrible
any more capybaras?
the issue is the tapped part
Ideally your lands dont come down tapped, but sometimes it's a price you pay in Pauper
imo
I don't worry about lands coming in tapped
i hate lands entering tapped for any reason besides them being creature lands
ah ok
oh I dont see any other capybara 😦 ok
its kinda confusing
but yea tldr
if they were digital only first, the newest edition of the card is the only edition of the card
imo this is perfectly fine
unfortunately, they cant get the code to work right to let us use the buffed versions of cards with the un-nerfed cards
damn rip
so symmetry sage isnt a card in basically no bans
wait doesn't that impact wizards in this event
Rakasha are no longer cats
"Tribal" is now "Kindred"
Naga is now Snake
"Totem Armor" is now "Umbra Armor"
why was naga even a type in the first place
just cause
Wait why the Rakshasa change
cause apparently they're shapeshifters that can sometimes be cats
or something to the effect, I'm just reading reddit comments
I'm not sure why the DnD one is losing his type tho
In DnD they are very much cat demons
presumably they're also changing what rakshasas are in dnd
I'd hope they'd just rename them in DnD
Otherwise they'd be losing a lot of neat established stuff
Letting yall know dockside is on the list this set
Boros was the original, mono red is technically the improvement since it’s faster and you don’t have to rely on bouncers anymore but some people still do play the original
oh huh
The prerelease boxes I've seen only have one stamped card
So idk what this is
Yeah boros bully (as it was called) was made to have bigger stats than faeries, trade with delvers, and also play a bunch of artifacts that drew cards and cheap fliers that bounced artifacts to then outpace faeries in card draw
Mono red with kodultha rebirth was fringe since it didn’t have bouncers but with epicure and experimental they can get advantage without bouncing
I’ve read a lot of the discourse on Twitter in regards to this and honestly? I think Wizards handled this correctly not just in terms of the changes, but in that, this doesn’t feel like a PR move, it’s Wizards telling you that anything deemed insensitive is up for a “rebranding” of sorts as ideas and social norms change
This is very much a huge W for wotc
whats a foil stamped card
all changelings are now capybara trilobite gamers
What prevented them from being doctors in the command zone again?
doctor's companion needs the card to be a time lord doctor and have no other types
doctor's companion needs a time lord doctor exactly
no other types
they do however work with 11th hour
They are a doctor in the command zone, but they aren't the doctor
Which is really weird because none of the cards that have it explicitly state this
It's just something you've gotta know and if someone who doesn't know any better pulls out Orvar Clara it's "oh actually"
wrong channel
Man presale prices this time around are especially wack
like for the whole set or just jurrassic park cards?
because jurrassic park has a very large following
seems actually constructed playable? essence scatter early game and a hard counter later
was gonna say maybe a decent side vs domain ramp, but they side in tyrannax rex iirc
its awful yeah perfect for edh
the good part is it doesnt outright kill the creature, but shuts it down. It's like cyber conversion but has synergy with cards that want you casting enchantments
yea we have seen many of these before. they arent very good outside of niche cases
[[kenriths tranformation]]
note: both are extremely mid in the end
?
it's the card I mentioned earlier, what I compared it to. Good for turning off commanders
this is still bad
ur in blue. counter magic shuts down commanders better. and if its important enough, gilded drake it
y'know I'm not surprised monored evolved into red with a small gruul splash for questing druid
I knew impulse draw at the top end was optimal but that's probably the best implementation
druid is nut
ye always knew the card was fire 😎
yea literally the best impulse
btw is polukranos really optimal in historic monogreen
that was the most surprising thing to me
that's hilarious
so many synergies
I saw one dude run tolsimir and a whole bunch of dual lands, ig so they didn't have to pay phyrexian for polukranos??
im on blue splash for krasis
still paying for the phyrexian cus that sounds awful to run to avoid needing to do so when poly k gains like 20 billion life
fuck like if u really dont wanna have a sprawl on white
Picked up from a friend 🥵
[[witness protection]] cause the commander is businessman
oof
rip the doobins
Oh yea what was the aura that was one mana cheaper now
https://magic.wizards.com/en/products/the-lost-caverns-of-ixalan/card-image-gallery?cigfreshness=all-cards&cigproduct=all-products&cigset=LCI&cigsubtype=aura I'm not sure, none of these look too familiar to me?
haven't we gotten petrify's effect at 2 mana before, or is it that?
[[planar disruption]]
oof it is arrest/petrify, that's underwhelming
I was hoping it was not just an objectively worse planar disruption
especially considering it's a teaser card
rip this dude is in the completely wrong place
Transformation spells fills out some niches counter magic doesn't
Often a player will have to waste a kill spell on their own transformed commander if it's important enough
if a deck doesnt function without its commander it also likely wasnt gonna be able to defend it from counter magic or worse, gilded drake
transformation spells heavily contend with just "not letting it resolve" in blue
and are often way less efficient and prone to counterplay and lack versatility compared to bounce spells like chain of vapor or snap or whatnot
kenrith's transformation is unique bc it cantrips and its in green. green isnt actually all that good at removing creatures without other investment points like having a creature to fight
also also: commander is a format where enchantment removal is actually played rather commonly to deal with problem enchantments like doubling season rhystic or smothering tithe
and its almost always more efficient to use it re-enable your very vital commander
than using a kill spell and then re-casting
I honestly don't see that much enchantment removal
Like there's always a beast within
Maybe a nature's claim here and there
my old lgs had a sign stating to run at least 2-3 cards that can do so
ala vanishing verse, tear asunder, assassins trophy, void rend, etc etc
generic destroy nonland permanent cards or cards that can hit multiple card types either at once
my current lgs outright has a section that sells versatile removal for edh
its extremely common to have this at any medium or higher power level commander tables
even in the mana base decks often have boseiju
or they play a creature with an etb that can remove a permanent
all often way more efficient than kill spell on your own commander and then re-cast
I just got reminded and asked myself the question why they reintroduced the better basic cycle in Kamigawa
they arent
they lack the subtype + legendary are real detriments
so them relegated to 1 ofs without a deckbuilding cost in some formats or 1 ofs with a deckbuilding cost in others is fine
the more of the same u add the worse they get
For the record I do agree that countermagic and generic kill spells are generally gonna be better
I just argue there are some edge cases for transformation
Esp in lower power tables
i further disagree at lower power levels
at that level if a commander is dangerous enough that it cant be killed or bounced or countered and u need to shut a person out of their commander permanently, why are they playing against that commander?
I think that gets into the discussion of what even is lower power
Is lower power when your commander is like
A legends vanilla
most often than not yes
or at least weak enough and at a casual enough level where needing removal like that is the only solution is 100% beyond overkill and likely not gonna be fun for anyone involved
I think 'low power' still has room for commanders strong in a vacuum
Where the commander is a piece in like a 4 card synergy
i like to play casual pods with the local cedh TO
i find the actual casual players just dont bring the quality of gameplay needed to beat me most of the time, regardless of what im playing
also i hate overly complex cards and the unnecessarily clogged up board states that casual cards cause
What card do y'all think is of note in lost caverns
Like if y'all had to pick one new card
basking capy ❤️
Not what I meant but I respect it
kinda boring answer but get lost is basically guaranteed to see some meta play cause it's a sidegrade to fateful absence
molten collapse looks potentially really nice depending on how often the second mode comes up
kellan looks genuinely perfect for naya pia
I'm seeing a lot of hype on the green god and I just don't get it
kitesail larcenist looks fantastic for blue, ojer axonil looks exciting for anvil
the green god looks fun but idk if it'll see standard play even though it cheats the card in. maybe I'm underestimating it though
actually it's resilient to removal with the city's blessing, maybe we do see it with green, especially with bedrock tortoise being an absolute unit
Ghalta I have zero clue if it'll actually end up being good, feels a bit win more
ghalta feels like a johnny/timmy card to me
Yeah I was trying to think of the word for it but that sums up my opinion on it
gishath is probably doing its job better
might be nice into black?
in general if you're going something that's destroy heavy it looks like nice insurance
bonehoard dracosaur looks genuinely nuts if you get it to stick, there's a ton of value in its effect
Yeah I was mainly thinking it's insurance, the double power active is low enough mana that I feel it could be useful
Bonehoard feels like it's stated to be a sheoldred check, it exiles instead of draws, makes high power tokens and generates mana, so it needs to be removed. Idk if it'll be able to stick around though as it has no protection
I think you just do the same thing as sheoldred where you place a fat body on board after either producing enough other threats or just in general saying "okay remove this or lose"
I think it pressures harder than sheoldred within standard
first strike also makes it a safer blocker into monored/gruul
sheoldred does stabilize with lifegain though
You could also run both if you wanted
Lot of rakdos midrange
Or is that pioneer I get those confused
that's every format on arena besides standard tbh
Oh jeez
it's ok alchemy mixes up it a bit by throwing white and green into the mix
Oh I think I remember isn't standard on esper shenanigans and has been for a while
as far as I can tell it's trending more towards azorius soldiers nowadays
and domain ramp
https://melee.gg/Tournament/View/25115 latest big tournament for reference
I see
leyline binding is indeed a nutty card
I think virtue of persistence helps them survive the early game too while also just serving as a hard to answer bomb later that can just re-grab atraxa
or one of your many other crazy creatures
can people play normal numbers of cards in their deck
ppl are just preparing for when Battle of Wits gets added to Arena
he's not even doing anything
kindred replacing tribal is great actually
and snake replacing naga is also p solid
big win for those snake tribal cards from og kamigawa
its snake kindred now
true
plenty of native tribes had been talking about that now and its nice that wotc listened on that front
Kindred is also arguably more evocative
Rakshasa is the only change Im confused by
Because idk
rakshasa in hinduism aren't cats
Those sure do look like cats
I know
But MTG has done non-mythologically accurate things before
yea they just arent cats. they are demons/devils/fiends
they're changing the arts of those cards too apparently
right and they are trying to correct that
its a whole thing with dnd too i believe

i feel so vindicated for saying that the pitch elementals were broken when they first got revealed
Besides the blue one, did anyone say that the elementals weren't going to be bonkers?
Any dinosaur tribal edh players in chat
sorry kiddo I play Dinosaur in pioneer/explorer
No
This chat is exclusively modern grinders
Yes
Never bring up casual edh in this chat
What upgrades do you recommend for the precon?
Gishath
That's arguably a better commander than Pantlaza
Gishath is high risk high reward
Pantlaza is low risk less reward
It's between those two
VC might help more
VC?
Oh sorry I don't like VC, but Ty for the advice I appreciate it
Ok text still works
I got more
If your tables are heavy on removal, Pantlaza is probably the better pick
But Gishath gives you more dopamine
What's your thoughts on carnage tyrant and polyraptor
I'm not a fan of the dinos that are just stats and nothing else
Like Carnage Tyrant is just stats
Polyraptor could be fine if your on the pantlaza variant
Just make damn sure you dont have it and marauding on the field at the same time
The cuts you want to make are probably like this
Wakening Sun's Avatar
Deathgorge Scavenger
Rampaging Brontodon
Shifting Ceratops
Bellowing Aegisaur
Majestic Heliopterus
Drover of the Mighty
Aztocan Seer
Raging Regisaur
Chandra's Ignition
Fiery Confluence
Savage Stomp
Thunderherd Migration
There are some others but imo these are the musts
Most of it is the enrage package
Imo they're just too low-impact on their own to do anything
And the payoff just isn't really there
You could justify them if you make a Wayta deck and make a fun enrage tribal deck
But Dino tribal is a lot better
Actually now that I'm looking at all the cards that trigger when dealt damage
I maybe would like to make a Wayta deck
It honestly looks kinda fun lol
But if your making Dino tribal
Wayta is not the way to go
Fair enough, Ty for the help
As for stuff to add in
Probably more dinos and ramp
Also Garruk's Uprising/Elemental Bond
Make sure the dinos you add are like
Good
Like New Etali
Thoughts on new ghalta and bonehoard
Autoincludes
Awesome, what's your thoughts on skullspore, I think it seems a bit too slow
Oh so don't include it?
You can if you want
And my final question, thoughts on palanis hatcher and trumpeting carnosaur
Well you played Regisaur Alpha
And Palanis Hatcher is strictly better
Trumpeting Carnosaur is also very good
well ackshually
Regisaur Alpha is better for making Ghalta cheaper
since you get the three power right away
Speaking of dinosaurs
Time to start theorycrafting post-LCI Dino for Pioneer
Can we make a Naya manabase work
lets fucking goooo burn
I love that they call it Mardu grief when it's not maining any white cards
It mains godless shine to side in like 3 white cards
what a slog

Healthy format
its bc no one played burn that scam won
poggers I am the greatest of all time
You are gold 4
made it with my marginally budget Gruul Dino list
Show. I can give you a list that I made mythic with during mom
sure
after some league grinding
I think Savage Stomp is mega bait
here's my sideboard (which doesn't really matter since I only play BO1 rn)
it does feel win more, but I don't have another great way of removing things with more than 4 toughness
also the enrage synergy is nice
although I'm seriously considering pivoting away from enrage synergies after LCI drops
and shifting to a ramp-ier playstyle
Removing things with more than 4 toughness is you having huge af stuff
Also isnt Great Henge a must?
[[Great Henge]]
I play 2
Imo this is how you win like
The aggro/burn matchup
Most of the time they wont be able to keep up with 2 life every turn
Also Im super iffy on the planeswalkers
I would probably go with Domri if any
unrelatedly
I may be building a comedy CoCo Fungi deck
Hammer is too based for cat, so it’s def scales
It’s scales
we begin
hrm if we go Naya
what removal do we splash
Bonehoard and Palani's Hatcher really push you out of using Maurading Raptor
I play a Magic: the Gathering Online Legacy league with a Last March of the Ents "Super Show and Tell" deck. This basically mono green dinosaur stompy decklist seeks to use artifact mana to accelerate into The One Ring, and then play uncounterable dinosaurs like Tyrranx Rex to end the game. Unfortunately, this deck ended up being too slow vs c...
preliminary list
https://www.moxfield.com/decks/57PIalKX60CjenKaxusXtg
not sure about Etali as my omegaender
also still thinking about Naya variants
the list is kind of all over the place. i dont see a need to run white at all though so theres that
Naya is fine in standard as you want the white splash, pioneer though? Idk
naya is not fine in standard
gruul ramp is the deck not naya
and idt anything changes with ixalan
If you’re playing Gruul ramp in standard, you’re not playing dinos (outside of the uncounterable rex with toxic because it’s good into control), so for the context of dinos and only dinos, Naya is def fine
gruul ramp is dinos in standard
stomper into etali
and frillback
thats the extent of playable dinos in standard rn
and the ones from ixalan are also gonna be gruul
I think naya's gonna get a bump with this set, but not for dinos
I still stand by kellan in naya pia nalaar
idt u wanna go naya at all even for kellan
i think kellan is good yea but not in pia
i think breeches is a stronger add than kellan
i think the most interesting potential card from the set, which im not sure will actually be good or not, but should be interesting
is the mycotyrant
also [[anim pakal thousandth moon]] is going to be good
Legendary Creature — Human Soldier
Whenever you attack with one or more non-Gnome creatures, put a +1/+1 counter on Anim Pakal, then create X 1/1 colorless Gnome artifact creature tokens that are tapped and attacking, where X is the number of +1/+1 counters on Anim Pakal.
"If we are to protect this world, we can no longer hide within it!"
1/2
we all know huatli is gonna be solid and so is saheeli but not in standard, but anim isnt talked about enough
shes more or less a sidegraded adeline
gonna build a comedy CoCo deck with Mycotyrant
looks like a bunch of the older Fungus and Saproling stuffs is lower rarity
but the manabase is gonna be problematic (I have no good lands except for Gruul)
(and not even all of them)
I can't help but feel like adeline's thicc butt helps her a lot tho
what would you run kellan in?
do we know huatli is gonna be solid? she struck me as a pet deck card before
[[Huatli Poet of Unity]]
Legendary Creature — Human Warrior Bard
When Huatli, Poet of Unity enters the battlefield, search your library for a basic land card, reveal it, put it into your hand, then shuffle.

: Exile Huatli, then return her to the battlefield transformed under her owner's control. Activate only as a sorcery.
2/3
Roar of the Fifth People
Enchantment — Saga
(As this Saga enters and after your draw step, add a lore counter. Sacrifice after IV.)
I — Create two 3/3 green Dinosaur creature tokens.
II — Roar of the Fifth People gains "Creatures you control have '
: Add
,
, or
.'"
III — Search your library for a Dinosaur card, reveal it, put it into your hand, then shuffle.
IV — Dinosaurs you control gain double strike and trample until end of turn.
shes likely gonna be meta in domain ramp
her ability to be an early presence and guarantee land drops while then ramping you even further, giving you more presence, and can help you hit atraxa makes her a valuable add
i would be surprised if she wont see a ton of play
nothing atm lol. kellan is a lot stronger in a meta where he can more readily take the turn off on t1 and turns 3-4 u dont have to curve into a 3/4 drop
its a factor but anim pakal grows relatively fast
it helps a lot that shes a human and a soldier
also she triggers like adeline so someone else attacks, she gets a counter, then on your next turn, she attacks and now shes at 3/4 attacking similar to adeline but with additional tokens
and she will guarantee get out of the 4 toughness range
isn't adeline a human too?
either way I think humans get a nice buff with cavern of souls
yea but shes a knight
It also helps that Adeline's tokens are also humans
Spooky drop secret lairs delayed to the 19th

so they confirmed that the formori mentioned in the flavor text of some cards from the set are the same species as [[formori nomad]] and it's not just a case of two things having the same name
So the Fomori are the "coin empire" then?
yes
Hmm
So I bought a playset of rings
Modern players rejoice - a ban is now imminent.
TIL TCC raised $775k to trans lifeline
yeah loads of mtg creators were doing it
bosh n roll and thraben u were the ones I knew doing it
one Brother's War pack on sale in MTGA

The only way this could’ve been better
Is if they were playing scam
Yeah lol
Anyway
Here’s to hoping the next B&R only takes out the orc and maybe beans
My opinion on the ring has shifted somewhat
Format is perfectly healthy
it's in the best place it's ever been
truly the most unique decks in the format
yeah ring has died down a bit
beans is slowly losing popularity so hopefully it just naturally fades away
the axolotl wasn't even the face card right
although it's obvious why it's being added
Not standard legal, I imagine
just historic and historic brawl
i asked a wotc employee why they aren't adding the actual face commander from the merfolk deck and apparently it was because of ui issues
these were a late decision and they didn't have time to put in a custom ui for choosing the order in which the merfolk explore
finished sleeving my 10rose deck
dragonshield accidentally sent 102 sleeves instead of 100 (I counted the sleeved cards to be sure)
don't they usually include that many? I'm pretty sure they always throw in a couple spares just in case one rips or something else happens
do they?
either way its nice to have my 10Rose deck all sleeved up and ready for a game now
They do
Which of the upcoming commander precons seems like the most ready to play out of the box?
The dino precon
I think my set box of LCI might be one of the best out there
Mana Crypt
Ghalta
Aclazots
Bloodletter of Aclazots
Skullspore Nexus
Dockside
Literally only card of note you're missing is cavern jesus what a box
Jesus Christ
Just went 2-0 on my first pre release match, early thoughts is a 6/6 with a ludicrously easy to avoid downside has no business being 3 mana in a limited environment jesus
Fuck it, blood moon into standard
holy shit awful take
We should create a winter orb but for nonbasics and put that into decks
lmao
Honestly? I'd play it
Would be perfect standard level
Yeah fair and balanced card
there's like 50 pages of lore here
extremely plot relevent info too
the formori went to ixalan running from something else apparently
the formori were the ones who first brought the gnomes to ixalan and are also speculated to have brought the mycotyrant with them
Prerelease finished, my opinion is: the limited environment isn't great this set imo
whats best to make for this prerelease?
the red and blue artifact archetype seems pretty good
How does it compare to woe
Honestly prefer woe
Damn trapjaw tyrant went up
Good thing I ordered mine before the decklists came out
Its not even that good of a card
it's got enrage synergy
...which is becoming less important because Marauding Raptor is going down in value
but
Huh I thought he went dark from YouTube
on the try guys channel maybe, but this video was a year ago iirc
which is crazy to think about new capenna being that old lol
i thought the event in question was further back
Honestly really surprised they didn't take the video down
It's because dinosaur players stopped reading after reading 'exile'
They overestimate how easy enrage really is to trigger in commander
Because trapjaw tyrant is a commander card
oh is this for commander specifically?
I thought it was for a normal sixty-card format
Its not only legal in commander
But
Commander is really the only place it may be playable
But its really not
imagine trying to play a commander tournament and everyone targets you because you cheated on your wife
eh like what he did sucked but I think they're not gonna take the video down over that
Not saying they absolutely must take the video down
did try guys take down videos with him in it
But it's also WOTC-sponsored
yeah but I don't think any of the money went to him
I think any cash he got for being on the show was already paid for
I dont think he gets any royalties from the video itself
yeah but WOTC might be upset if you took down the video they paid for presence on
why take it down what does this guys infidelity have to do with mtg anyway
yeah but other uncancelled people worked hard
Yeah
Again not saying they have to take it down
Just a bit surprised they didn't end up doing it
yeah considering wotc's track record its odd that its still up
they fired terese nielsen just for following alex jones on twitter
She also did art for a qanon podcast
And retweeted terf shit
Her firing was pretty valid ngl
So dont see why they wouldn't order the takedown of a video
Where a big name guy had an affair
the art was like a star wars fanart as a personal request
like yeah shes a conservative
I think they don't want to be associated with qanon/terf artists tho
And she wasn't fired. Wotc doesn't have in-house artists
They just simply didn't contract her since
But they do wanna be associated with a paramour?
she was also racist iirc
and everyone mentions the terf stuff but there isnt any evidence of it as far as ive found terese even posted on her twitter she doesnt hate trans people
tbh they have the right to work with or without whoever they want for contractors so it's up to them
She followed and retweeted terf stuff
for any reason whatsoever
She's likely cleaned it up since
It's kinda hard to get contracting jobs with terf stuff on your social media
there are plenty of other talented artists they can commission that aren't bigots
Yeah like my girl Wylie Beckert
And my boy Dominik Mayer
Both are relatively new artists to MTG and both are killer
got any examples of their work
i try not to be too gloomy about the modern art direction but damn it sucks theyve lost so many of the greats
Maybe WOTC isn't a huge fan of product erasure?
Like they don't pretend it doesnt exist
Soul Shatter is a personal favorite by Wylie
Just they don't do it again
yeah thats pretty good
y'all I think you're overthinking it
ok so the art on this is good but they screwed him with the flavor text
And promo expressive iteration
I just don't think a cheating scandal causes wotc to go to one of the many wotc-sponsored videos out there and get it taken down, when they're not even the main focus of the channel
I guess it would also flip off the hard work of plenty of other people
yeah this is what hurts most about cancel culture
I thought this was gonna be a Chosen of Zefra situation
Where its literally just pngs of the guys
Wow that art sucks
Meeting of the Five has such cool art for a card that's actively unplayable
I find it funny how much more hate someone's piece of media gets the moment they get outed as a bigot
And also it's a story spotlight that never even happened
Surely they were in the same room somewhere in the lore
The heads of the families never even met because the cappena story was... Bad
right you see people being like "i always hated them" like lmao lets not actike suddenly Michael Jackson was never a good dancer
I never got this tbh, the stuff I consumed still is amazing after the fact, it just sucks now cause I associate it with a piece of shit
I guess it's just lashing out
Like ONE and MOM had really bad stories, but I think SNC had the worst story in recent sets
Like the McKinnon Farewell art
He gets outed as a neo nazi
And now the art was never that good
I remember when it was coming out every day and @lusty trench and I would discuss how awful each update was
wait is seb actually cancelled
They outright forgot about Vivien
tbf people were criticizing that farewell art before it even was released cause they said it looked more "european" or something
shit I forgot about vivien lmao
breeding pod on a 6 mana walker ain't it
Yeah
I don't think Vivien has every done anything relevant
But she's just randomly in the story for like 5 minutes
People restrain a lot of criticism out of respect for the person
She shows up and tells Elspeth "hey I'm working with Urabrask" and Elspeth for some reason goes "oh that's totally fine"
She uh
She defeated Lukka
Yeah
Wasn't it's supposed to be the weapon that could destroy the citadel?
he'd do it himself if left alone with a pack of crayons
Something like that?
But she defeated Lukka!
But Elspeth didn't know that Urabrask was even leading his rebellion so finding out that she was working with him should have been "hey man what the fuck"
And then Vivien left and was never seen again
She better of been desparked I swear
SNC had a dogshit story
well mtgs story has been in the shitter for years now
i love how jetmir looks completely different in every art he's in
Remember "oh who's the adversary and how do we stop him" and then like a sentence later "oh it's actually oh nixilis"
Honestly. Although I do love his showcase art
i think woe and lci had pretty good stories
Every art just has a different ratio of cat to demon and it's funny af
I think the last actively good story was like
Deadass OG Ixalan
This art is really good
WOE and LCI have been better than average
i liked the shadows over innistrad stuff
But tbh they were following MOM and MOM made the average story very low
and then nothing after
Love outright randomly forgetting where characters were and having them randomly teleport around and then having 4 of the 5 praetors effectively killed in a sentence each
fact is theyre lowering their quality of contracted artists lately regardless of cancelations theyre just spending less money and cutting more corners
Sheoldred and Urabrask's rebellion (which was mentioned on like all of 3 cards) was randomly stopped sentence 1 and then they killed her
Vorniclex gets to live because
And then Jin and Vorinclex both got bodied by nameless soldiers
Idk he did nothing
But yeah, Vorinclex is maybe alive?
Jin literally got killed by a random soldier throwing a statue at him
hiring college kids instead of veteran writers or artists
because they cost less and know how to post on social media responsibly
Reminder Jin is the weakest praetor but he's still like 10-20 feet tall (scale randomly changes) and he was still strong enough to stop tamiyo, the wanderer, and kaito combined in kamigawa
At least they didn't go down like atraxa did
Oh god I forgot about the atraxa death
"Just drop a fucking building on her, whatever"
Atraxa just had Bob, Steve and John on their lunch break off to get Gregg's just break their scaffolding
That was embarrassing
That soldier's name?
Tetsuo Umezawa.
He straight up doesn't have one
Jin is literally killed by a nameless grunt
He's getting double rations for that one
