i'm slowly vibing with wuwa's gameplay more, though it may be that using the trial changli is carrying combat for me atm since she's fun and very satisfying
this is the first open world gacha i've played and i'm pleasantly surprised by the exploration

it has 4 total hp bars, each one is about 139 billion
that is a blessing in disguise
it likes to shit out confusion so you need a way to deal with that
it starts the fight in moonlight zone, which is a horrible zone for most teams, so you need a way to break it
(that at least is trivial)
after you break its first bar, any character currently in the frontline who dealt at least 1% of its max hp in damage gets hit with a damnation stack
this stack completely cripples your character for the next 2 bars
flat -9999 power, int, and speed
after you break its second bar, any character who does not have the damnation stack will instead get hit with confusion at the start of every turn starting from the second turn after reaching that bar
after you break its third bar, it'll re-set moonlight zone, but damnation no longer cripples your characters
basically the fight encourages you to use multiple dps and rotate one of them out of the backrow
or, you can use multiple dps up front and pixel count so you don't kill its first bar, then take a turn to swap out before finishing it so they can dodge damnation
pixel counting fucking sucks
anyway, never have to worry about that version of the fight again
hopefully book of heavenly tsukuyomi is less annoying

especially coming from ZZZ combat with all its iframes
you can get hit during long wuwa character animations like skills and ults and that is just frying my brain
made worse by the fact i don't know boss attack chains yet and find it very difficult to see what they're doing through all the particle effects lighting up the screen
and there's few visual cues beyond just looking at how the boss is moving to know when to dodge, and even when you do dodge the iframes feel super short and an attack chain might fuck you anyway
the combat is fun and really satisfying when you get a proper combo off but i feel like a toddler in some of these boss fights just getting hit by fucking everything
the boss fight about halfway through 3.0 that you had to fight with trial lynae/rover had me in shambles
don't think i've ever felt so helplessly confused by a boss fight before, just had no clue when to dodge anything and the only reason i beat it is because the game literally doesn't let you lose, it just reduces you to 1HP
profoundly unsatisfying experience since it beat my ass into the ground but the game said "you win lol", honestly would've preferred if it killed me and forced me to retry
i get there's a learning curve to all this (especially for individual boss fights to learn their attack patterns) but god damn i've never felt like i'm negative IQ as often as i do during wuwa combat

the hoe ko one sucks ass but its score requirement is like 211m or something so it was fine
the phantom eden one has an even lower threshold, like 177m or something
but one of its party pledges is sword characters, which is trivial for what i have
the third one is the ff9 collab, which has a threshold of like 1.2 billion
ff9 characters have an extremely high act bonus there, so it's actually entirely possible to do with a full f2p comp
buuuut, one of the other pledges was sword characters
so i just reset until linaria didn't get status, had her fresh heal to heal the start of battle statuses, and went from there

finished wuwa 1.2 story (black shores + shorekeeper)
was good, but felt like most of it came outta fuckin nowhere
1.1 at least pulled on several of the major hanging threads of 1.0; 1.2 sure seemed like it wanted to do that (after all, black shores weren't new) but suffice to say it took that whole storyline a very weird direction that wasn't set up particularly well, it kinda feels like they wanted to speedrun the rover origin story
overall fine, and shorekeeper was good, but struck me as a more disjointed story than 1.1
didn't expect them to be bold enough to break out The L Word with shorekeeper... the game is not escaping its "gathering wives" nickname
guess rinascita is next
but ffs leveling slows to a crawl real fast
