initially there are 3 nikke types (attack, defense, support) and 4 slots for gear (head, chest, hands, feet), and said slots are distributed per type
so 12 pieces total but it's obvious where each piece goes, and all pieces are made equal, so there's no AL bamboozling where a gold piece of gear is actually shit and shouldn't be used or something
later on it gets a bit more complex with manufacturer gear which i won't explain since it's not relevant at the start

both are fine and should have separate lists for certain parts of the game
e.g. campaign, pvp, bossing, etc
they're generally pretty reliable, the one thing to be wary of is that they ofc assume endgame
so alice for instance will be very high in both tier lists
but she is extremely investment heavy and actually kinda sucks before you get optimal gear
so just blindly following the tier list can be misleading in that sense
but the placement of most characters is reasonably reliable to get an idea of how good they are

advanced vouchers > standard vouchers > skill books > core dust boxes > consoles (role/manufacturer ones) > credit/battle data boxes > spend excess currency on core dust
also this question comes up a lot, but those boxes with the 1H, 2H, etc. timestamps on them
that's not an expiration time, the boxes are permanent
but they can be redeemed for that much time's worth of your idle resource gain
so if you gain 10 core dust per hour idly, a 2H core dust box gives 20 core dust
this means the boxes scale with your outpost level, so it's best to save them until you need them to progress, since redeeming them later makes them more valuable
and core dust is the major bottleneck resource for a long time, so it has priority over credits/battle data

leveling skills or gear? don't bother until you have a better idea of what's good
in nikke you only need to level 5 characters at once

down the line you'll unlock the synchro device, which lets you synch unit levels to the lowest level of your top 5 (so if your top 5 is 100, 98, 96, 94, 92, then synchro device will synch nikkes inside to 92)
because it only accounts for your top 5, you only ever need to level 5 and just slap the rest into your synchro device
that said, it's best to level golds over purples/blues, since non-golds have a manual level cap of 160. so to go past that in your synchro device, you need to have 5 golds leveled

i think the current distribution of wishlist priority nikkes looks like

past that it's a combination of "check a tier list" vs "prioritize nikkes you're close to MLB on"
MLB'ing 5 nikkes is important for progression, since you need to MLB an SSR to get them past 160, and you need 5 nikkes past 160 so your synchro device gets everyone else along for the ride
so eventually adjusting your wishlist to target nikkes you're close to MLB on is wise
at least until you get those 5, then you can go back to meta or waifu or whatever suits your fancy
honestly wishlist prio might go a bit wonky with the addition of 100 pull pity giving you guaranteed liter/naga/alice
kinda bonkers they're giving away liter guaranteed, she's basically the best general use support in the game
and naga/alice are both quite good too, but alice is the most investment heavy unit in the game so it takes a while for her to be usable

with the temp participation nikkes i think you can maintain consistent (if slow, later on) progress until around chapter 20 or 21
that's usually around the time you'll hit the 160 wall and your characters will stop getting stronger for a while
honestly one of my main gripes with nikke is that the campaign is hard combat power gated so you'll reach points where you literally cannot progress for days or up to weeks at a time
there's other stuff to do ofc, just settles into the daily grind
you'd think that a game that actually prides itself on not just being gooner bait and actually having engaging story/characters would wanna make that story accessible to everyone
but nope, i've been playing for about 8 months now and i'm still not able to fully catch up to the story (i'm on chapter 29 of 32 iirc)
and they're adding two NEW chapters with this anni, tfw that's content tons of people won't even be able to access
i'm still riding on the highs of chapters 22-24 though
god that was some good shit, easily the best main story arc in nikke so far
