and yeah, they def want URs to do cool things, but sometimes the best thing is just to make one that's practical for the current content
guam and laffey ii are very clearly built to tackle chapter 15, for example
(laffey ii is good enough as a generalist tank to cover anything else as well, and guam is also usable just about anywhere even with her dedicated aa focus)
the actually annoying thing for me is the disparity between rainbow bbs and everything else
i don't post this as a shill/bash for tier lists, but to demonstrate the point
compare how many rainbow bb/variants there are compared to every other hull type
like we have biszwei, fdg, kearsarge, musashi, nj, soyuz, vanguard, uvh, and warspite retro (although she's not great in comparison)
and on top of all that we just got alsace
for cv/cvl we have shinano, hakuryuu, implacable, and yorktown ii
for ca we have drake, unzen, and hindenburg
i'm treating cb's a bit separately for this, esp since by ratio they have the highest proportion of rainbows in the game
every cb in the game except kala ideas (a collab ship) is a rainbow
so that's agir, azuma, brest, guam, kronshtadt
for cl we have sandy retro and plymouth
and neither of those are pullable in the gacha as ur
in other words, out of all the ur events we've had, none of them have featured a rainbow cl
then for destroyers we have shimakaze and laffey ii

- no alternative ways to "limit break" other than getting dupes
brown dust 2 has this trifecta, but it's not as bad as a whole because it hands out banner draws like candy

well, limit breaking can come in a few different forms
in azur lane, you need dupes or bulins to increase level cap (a tleast until you get to your first natural cap of 100)
in fgo, dupes are used for upgrading a servant's noble phantasm, not increasing their level cap
in gbf, dupes are worthless character-wise, but dependin gon the weapon, may be useful for grid purposes
in genshin and star rail, dupes are used to raise constellation/eidolon levels respectively, which have varying effects depending on the character

in star rail its mostly minor qol buffs

in nikke, while dupes are only a 2% stat boost, you also need 5 max limit broken nikkes (so 3 dupes total for each) to level your roster past 160. so impact of each limit break is low, but without them you hit what's called the "160 wall" where you're just waiting for dupes to level past cap. i'm actually there right now in nikke, but it's not as bad as it sounds since it gives time for resources to accumulate for when you finally get past the wall and can level a ton at once
in BD2, you pull "costumes" rather than characters. costumes are sort of like skins, but they also have specific skills attached to them. so having a character with 3 costumes means they have 3 different skills. each dupe of a costume increases the effectiveness of that costume's skill, and at 3 dupes it also makes it cost less
the azur lane/BD2 way (and apparently FGO) of dramatically increasing character effectiveness off dupes is more what i'm referring to

and in BD2 you get 40 battles per day, which is a lot, but you can put it on auto and have it run all 40 in the background, no interaction needed
nikke PvP actually gives premium currency (gems) so it's arguably worth tryharding if you can
