Especially from the tileset

Most hacks don't bother with a custom tileset, preferring flashy mechanics and dex and up to latest gen and everything

I just want a functioning game, with a plot that's an actual plot, and a good look on it. Without the look, it's a lot like having a great meal, but it looking like sludge.

Take Pokémon Odyssey. Story-driven game, of a story I basically know by heart by this point, no fancy mechanics but double battles, and just loads of customization and great looks, I don't even care if I'm limited to 3rd gen mons.

So the method is in area 3 you can walk up and down the tower which triggers a respawn except for shinies, as those are always preserved. The camera always turns around so you just need to hold down to walk up and down (which you can do with an elastic band, or like hanging something on the stick). Which will of course over time reroll all visible Pokemons. Now my thinking is, the restaurants may do the same reroll when leaving, making it possible to reroll everywhere (just with less mons, as less will be visible), but you need to press "A" to enter or leave a restaurant. So you can use a turbo controller to repeatedly press "A" to enter / leave, while using an elastic band to hold down, and with that you can potentially AFK shiny hunt everywhere.

Ok so
1h into Pisces, very loosely considering 1h because of me dying every other second...the 1st route has branching paths, different ways, and different people, not just trainers, and a wide variety of mons, plus running and exp share all from the beginning without it feeling overwhelming (hell, I even lost to a fish tank with poison heal and grassy terrain, although the latter was my own fault).
Plus everything is very, very vibrant and full of life, you wouldn't believe it's a hack of emerald.

This for me is extremely high praise, if this game keeps up around half of its premise, I wouldn't hesitate to call it 2nd best romhack of 2025. 2nd because Odyssey is 1st, and that was the equivalent of a revolution in romhack design.
