I feel for the amount of cav and other land uu's the exploration military path could see a bit of a rework. Obvs mongolia has the ability to earn points on the home continent, but so many cav military civs and playstyles feel weak in that age as they cannot cross ocean for so long. You can take an opponents homeland capital and it earns you nothing. It is important that the Exploration age concerns colonialism, but its start is very much rooted in medievalism, where Europe and Asia at least were having wars every 5 seconds. In terms of historical events I would definitely say that the exploration age major event was the fall of Constantinople, and a lot of the major colonialism was a later development into the industrial period. Not sure how it could enter the gameplay, but excluding mongolia, cav and other land units do not help you earn score in that age and the civs tied to those feel weaker for it.

Taking an opponent's capital may not lead you towards a direct path to a legacy path, but it is still beneficial. You deny a civ their best city, and increase your capacity to do stuff which leads to legacy path points.

I do agree with this, but considering the effort put in, compared to just getting points for putting a couple of settlers on an island. It can help you propel yourself to a win, but pretty much all of the legacy point mechanics are win more scenarios. And directly in the exploration age, I'm not sure what taking a capital could do for your legacy progress, it won't help you earn culture, economic, or military, maybe it can help you with science if its a strong city.
