Had this happen to me in my first ever game too. Additionally, the ship wasn't even built at the location it spawned at in the Exploration Age, ending up at a settlement I'd captured in the previous age, and was in no way the nearest settlement to where the ship was when the Age ended. It's a frustrating and confusing transition effect, especially for a first game with no in-game details as to how/why this happened.
