#Self-Religion Benefits

Like some, I find the religion aspect in Civ7 lacking.
But most importantly I find the lack of a benefit for converting your own cities to your religion a huge flaw.
You should be rewarded for actively making your own cities follow your religion, as it is now, there is little to no reason other than just denying the opponent their rewards, unless I'm missing something important here. But that is how I and several of my friends view it in this game.

For instance: Lets say you take the +4 to yields for each Wonder in the foreign city you converted.
This sounds great, but becomes completely useless when you realize that most players will build wonders in their capital and also make their capital their holy site, making it impossible to convert that city, rendering this choice 100% useless.

But what if it gave +1 yields for each Wonder in cities you own? It's not overly powerful, but you get some kind of benefit from it. The ones that say +2 of a yield? Give us +1 or +0.5 of that yield for our own cities. We should be rewarded for interacting with this part of the game on our own empire we took the time to build.

There are social policies that give +15% yields for own religion settlements right?

The reward for own towns and cities are in the policy cards, and part of the cultural (or is it military, i cannot remember) legcy.

I wouldn't really consider those benefits though. You have to give up other policies to utilize those.
That's an active trade of one utility for another. Once you decide to swap it out for something else, religion in your settlements loses all value outside of hindering an opponent.
You could argue converting a foreign city isn't a benefit either, but consider this; You convert their cities for the relics which work towards the culture victory (or helps in military). Then while they are converted you have a passive benefit of the yields. This passive benefits is what you should get for your own cities following your own religion.

I’m trying to think of what a good reward would be for like converting half of your own settlements and then all of your own settlements at once. Maybe like two or three relics for each of those? Or a permanent buff to all missionaries? Or a new belief because those are so hard to come by

I also found it surprising and strange that promoting your own religion to your own cities doesn't have any impact at all, but I'm honestly not sure it's necessary.

At the very least, I don't want more reason to care what religion my cities follow if I don't have better tools for influencing it. Without religious combat or some other way to defend my cities from being converted to rival religions, I think the whole thing would just be frustrating.

There are extra beliefs in the theology tree for your settlements

Yup, that was mentioned above and I mostly think those are good enough. It'll be cool to see what the unlocked beliefs might do in this regard.
